If they reveal the hardware before E3, which I think they will, it'll be interesting to see which month they do it in. You could argue that they do it in April to start the fiscal year off with a bang, but then I think they run risk of that backfiring if there's too long of a gap between hardware reveal and software reveals.
I imagine in May since it's very empty in first-party releases (AFAIK only Fire Emblem in EU and Disney Art Academy in NA) and an NX reveal wouldn't risk sucking the air out of any surrounding release.

Nintendo could be a real tease and do a Sony by having a very short internet video that shows the console, but actually shows absolutely nothing of the console or what it does, but gets the hype through the roof (I believe Sony did this right before Microsoft was about to hold their initial Xbox One reveal conference - https://youtu.be/gdRgCQhOTco). That could be done in April, with an actual reveal in May and then E3 is the big blowout that brings the theatre down with excitement (hopefully not killing or injuring anyone).

I don't think we will see anything about the NX before E3. The Wii U was revealed at E3 2011 and Nintendo didn't give any updates about the console until a whole year later at E3 2012. They like waiting until E3 to reveal their stuff.

@Vinny: Yeah but Nintendo had to do damage control at that E3. Too much info was leaked. The problem was their damage control didn't help their cause because they just didn't have enough to show. That stuck the early nail in the coffin. Look at Xbox one's first reveal and they still haven't recovered from that as well. First impressions go a long ways.

And the 3DS wasn't revealed at E3, it was revealed at its own conference beforehand in order to try and get ahead of the leaks that we're starting to happen. Also the 3DS was a console that launched that same year in Japan, so announcing it before the big E3 conference was likely needed anyway.
There's no way that Nintendo can go until E3 this year without any leaks taking place. It's no longer possible. The Xbox One was leaked months before its official reveal, and I have a feeling the PS4 may have been too.

Well the "leaks" and rumours are becoming so ridiculous now especially this video I just saw (https://youtu.be/jS-g-BddV4g) about the apparent leaked E3 for Nintendo. Really quite funny to listen to, especially one name which I am pretty sure he is saying to be 'Metroid Ashamed'. That alone made me laugh.

I think Nintendo should go with the brothers Chap for their e3 show and have the homestar runner as part of the event and even have it start of by Strong Bad reading an email about the NX. Strong should as well make a joke about the specs of the NX like how he introduced the lappy.
