But will there be a Nintendo World Championships this year?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

@GrailUK: Thank you, my old one was from Star Fox Adventures but I recently bought a Star Fox plush for my desk and decided to upgrade my Avatar to a picture of it.

I hope so too but by this time last year things were already in motion for NWC, iirc.

@Bolt_Strike: If Nintendo does hold a Nintendo did hold a World Championship this year, the only way they would use an NX game would be if they did it after the NX reveal itself took place. I can't see how it wouldn't ruin the surprise of the console and the games it has otherwise.

I am still of the mind Nintendo will showcase something about the NX before E3 itself and then do the main reveal, at a conference instead of the usual Direct.

It is usually around this time that it gets leaked Nintendo has rented out the theatre. If it's a two day rental then I can see the World Championships and conference both taking place.

@FragRed: It wouldn't ruin the surprise as long as they use a generic controller.

For me, the key would be avoiding leaks. Last year still had some good announcements, but Smash's leak took away a lot of the hype.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Now playing: Okami HD, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

Oh please, by the time e3 comes there will be so many leaks and most of them will be lies

I fully expect that we'll know what the NX is before E3, especially if they plan on launching it in 2016. They need time to talk about the hardware itself and its features and the launch titles, which they usually take 2 E3 conferences to talk about. So they'll probably reveal the hardware sometime before E3 (maybe around April/May) and we'll already know what the hardware is going into the World Championships, with E3 focusing on the launch titles.

If they reveal the hardware before E3, which I think they will, it'll be interesting to see which month they do it in. You could argue that they do it in April to start the fiscal year off with a bang, but then I think they run risk of that backfiring if there's too long of a gap between hardware reveal and software reveals.

I imagine in May since it's very empty in first-party releases (AFAIK only Fire Emblem in EU and Disney Art Academy in NA) and an NX reveal wouldn't risk sucking the air out of any surrounding release.

I just now looked in here and don't know what's been said but we had better find out what Retro has been doing for the last 2 plus years!!

Other then that Nintendo could quite possibly own this year's E3 and by a wide margin at that. If they play this right and show what Retro has been doing along with Zelda U footage and just what the NX is I don't think the other 2 big companies stand a chance. Or Nintendo could bomb and once again not do enough and hold back too much information. Here's hoping the new President understands how important this really could be!!

@TingLz: I'm not sure if it counts, but back at E3 2005 they didn't show the Revolution (Wii) controller and waited until TGS do to so.

@TingLz: Oh so they don't hold back pricing, release dates, hardware specs, and other various info like the reveal of the 3ds XL. Why that was announced a few weeks after I still don't understand.

There's no way Sony is going to be able to top their conference from last year. Not unless they have Half Life 3, Crash, and Zelda U is now Zelda PS4. Only one of those even remotely has a chance of happening, and I think it will happen (or at least I hope).
