It all makes sense now! If they'd used that translation back then, it might've been seen as just another shooter.

That what it WAS seen as until the internet suddenly decided it was high comedy. Being a generic, unspectacular and unmemorable game lost in the masses isn't really a good thing, you know. The translation quality didn't do any harm to it.

(hell, does it even HAVE a reputation as a game? Apart from that laughably unprofessional "Gametrailers worst games of all time list" that included it for god knows what reason, most people don't even seem to know what genre the game is, let alone have an opinion on it. The intro is what's well known, not the game itself)

Agreed. If it didn't have the poor translation, somebody wouldn't have made a popular video mocking it, and the game would still be relatively unheard of.

I've played Zero Wing before. While it's not a bad shooter, there's far better shooters out there for the Genesis like MUSHA or Bio Hazard Battle. Like KingMike stated, this game would be mostly unknown if it weren't for the abmysal translation.
