Just wanted to know, is the Zelda Game & Watch gonna be limited time like the Mario one, or will it be sold for longer?
Your first anything is important; a memory you don't want to forget. That's what makes nostalgia such a fascinating concept. That's why many people enjoy games that have aged well.
Then again, I'd like to believe the Zelda one may be more desirable? I at least find better value in having 3 completely different TLoZ games, compared to one Super Mario Bros game, and the retro equivalent of a "Nightmare Mode" level pack.
If they intend to make it a limited run, then it might sell out faster. On the other hand if they think it'll sell better on its own beyond the anniversary, they might produce it for a bit longer.
The Mario Game & Watch units were around here for some time, though I've been unable to find anymore. They weren't scarce, and I don't expect this to be hard to find either.
Currently playing: Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr's Journey, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (Switch)

One article on this site I recall said it was going to contain both English and Japanese versions of each game.
That makes it a little more exciting of a prospect.
I wonder if Zelda 1 would be the disk or a cartridge version (the latter being essentially just a reverse-localization of the western version).
The game launches very soon, so Nintendo has revealed all the secrets/cheats they added to the games, similarly to the infinite lives mode in the Mario games:
Hold the A button when selecting a file to start it with all hearts. You can also do this when selecting "Continue" after a game over.
(Japanese only) Hold "a certain button" (probably Select) to kill all Pols Voice enemies instantly.
Hold A + B + Start + Select during the status screen to bring up the Save menu.
For Zelda 2:
Hold the A button when selecting a file to start it with maxed stats and all abilities. You can also do this when selecting "Continue" after a game over.
Hold A + B + Start + Select at any point in the overworld to bring up the Save menu. Inside places or during combat, you must open the status screen first.
For Link's Awakening:
Hold the A button when selecting a file to start the game with all hearts, plus the sword will start off being level 2. (this only works with new files)
You can switch between full screen and "original screen" mode (doesn't say how)
Hold A + B + Start + Select at any point to bring up the Save menu.
After defeat, if you hold the A button when selecting "Continue", you'll start with full health (instead of just 3 hearts)
For Vermin:
Hold A when selecting a mode to enter "Mode C", which is basically hardcore mode.
But I’ve seen videos of people who bought them at physical stores, some even a few days before release.
Edit: Looks like in Zelda 1 and Zelda 2, the maxed health and skills cheat is temporary, your stats go back to normal if you save and quit. But you can do it again if you wish. Could someone confirm this? I don't have the device yet.
Not too surprising about the Z1 and Z2 save codes, the original games required a second controller which obviously this version doesn't support.
The code was a normal part of LA (since unlike ALttP, the GB didn't have any extra buttons for a save option).
I know using cheats to get abnormal health status in Link's Awakening can glitch out the file menu (and actually brick a DX cart! Can only fix that if you, ironically, have one of those "illegal copying devices" which would let you overwrite the save data with uncorrupted data), presumably this version has done something to avoid that problem.
I like how they made the saving button combination uniform across all three games. On the GBA version of the first game, it was a different button combination, but here it’s the same as in Link’s Awakening.
That problem you mention might be why the function works differently in Link's Awakening, it being the only game that doesn’t allow you to do the cheat mid-progress, it only works on new files. So perhaps they did do something about it.
Maybe it changes the game to remove all the heart pieces/containers? Can someone test it?
Got mine today! I can now confirm that the cheats on Zelda 1 and 2 are permanent for that file, and the heart pieces/containers are still present in LA when you start with the cheat.
Also, I... I had never noticed the level-2 music in Link's Awakening is kinda like a remixed version of the dungeon theme from A Link to the Past combined with the haunted house theme from Super Mario World , and the regular music they use for caves in LA... That's a lot of things combined into such a short song!
I'm not sure, but I can tell now that the availability is pretty good so far, in my area at least. Targets, Walmarts, and Best Buy in my area all have these in stock right now, which is more than I can say about the N64 Switch controller. Lol. I'm probably going to get this at some point soon too. Kinda wish Link's Awakening DX was included, although I can't really complain with 3 full Zelda games!
