I could say the same about any genre you like, but I won't because I'm not 4 years old. <_<

It looks like anything anyone says makes them look four years old.

Nope, just you. Because you're the only one consistantly acting like a child. If you don't like a genre, ignore it. You don't have to hate and ridicule it, just like you've talked down to others for doing to your favorite genres. That's common sense. Use it.

I can't even think of 10. Top 3 though:
1. Ninja Baseball Batman
2. TMNT lV: Turtles in Time
3. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World

It's no opinion! Fact: Ninja Baseball Batman is the BEST side scrolling beat'em up you've never heard of! Everyone watch a video of it on YouTube right now, so much effing charm! It's not just ridiculous it's super fun to play too.

I need to play this game now!

I don't see the point in coming to this thread if all you want to do is flame people by insulting a genre they obviously enjoy. In a thread for Top 10 Beat 'em Ups, why would you post here if you hate the genre and have nothing to contribute?

Sorry about that, on topic now. I have to say, I don't play that many beat 'em ups so here's what I can think of:
1. Streets of Rage 2
2. Final Fight
3. TMNT IV: Turtles in Time
4. Double Dragon
5. Golden Axe: The Revenge of Death Adder

And I did. It was very impressive. I didn't play it with friends, so that's probably why I wouldn't call it the best beat 'em up ever, but it's top 5 at least. My list is now as follows:

1. Guardian Heroes
2. Streets of Rage 2
3. Code of Princess
4. Ninja Baseball Bat Man
5. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game
6. Castle Crashers
7. River City Ransom
8. Final Fight
9. Arabian Magic
10. Streets of Rage

Yeah, pretty much every beat'em up is 50% better with friends.
You sure played that fast. o.o Glad you liked it! The whole game is a blast. I played through it with my brother at an arcade and it was massive fun!

I'm surprised you had a real machine to play! My only problem with the game was that it's a little short (6 stages, none of which are as long as I expected), and the final boss is a chump. Also, it doesn't change the standard Beat 'em up formula, but what it does, it does very well, and I'm glad I played it. Thanks for telling us about it.

Having a mellow tone and using logic to discuss doesn't declare talking down to anyone. Plus, the only people I bothered discussing with, were people who had an arrogant, narrow minded outlook on a specific game in a specific genre.

Unless you'd like to pinpoint exactly where I talked down to someone disliking a genre I do enjoy (I like every genre except beat 'em ups), then you'll have room to talk. Beyond that, I wasn't talking to you or looking for an argument, so if anything you're the immature one here.

Excluding your history of unnecessary profanity towards users. Real mature!

resurrecting this thread because we dont have any like this and its a really good thread, plus the genre isnt really around anymore. the beat em up/brawler genre is possibly the best of them all. im making an attempt to bring this thread back to life to continue with all the above posts. speaking of bringing things back to life, be on the lookout for watermelons "project y" for the sega genesis. looks to be promising as it appears as a love letter to all old school beat em up/brawler fans.

I was just thinking about this topic.

1. Guardian Heroes - Loads of replayability
2. Streets of Rage 2 - end all be all of the genre
3. Ninja Baseball Batman - Charm to spare
4. Dragon's Crown - Really deep combat system and great graphics
5. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game - River City Ransom wishes it was this good
6. Castle Crashers - just a really damn good game

7-10 - Doesn't matter, these games put the rest of the genre out on the street.

1.Guardian Heroes (Saturn)
2. Golden Axe : Revenge of Death Adder (Arcade)
3. Sengoku 2 (Neo Geo) - 3 looks nicer but it is not as good.
4. Crude Buster (Arcade) - Released on the Megadrive as Two Crude Dudes and it is on Data East Arcade classics.
5. Asterix (Arcade) - Konami game.
6. Battletoads (Arcade)
7. Chronicles of Mystara (Saturn/Arcade - the new port is just not quite right not to mention playing it with unlimited continues is totally useless).
8. Shadow Force (Arcade).
9. Battle Circuit (Arcade)
10. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time (SNES)

Just noticed the (Console) thing but I cannot be bothered changing it. They are probably nearly all on the Saturn then. (Any where you get rewarded for grinding or failing lots which makes it easier are a waste of time).

Something limited amount of lives per level and a massive increase in difficulty after each level is what I think is good.

I think I preferred the Simpsons Arcade game to the Turtles one. (Think it was the same technology but a year or so later). Might be I was just better at it by then.

Even though there is no reason for the Arcade games of today to be any better than say a PS4 game. It seems like Sega AM2 still makes the right choices (And exists still in a bubble totally isolated from the rest of Sega just making Arcade games). Not even bothering to get them ported.

1. River City Ransom
2. Double Dragon
3. TMNT Arcade

I haven't really liked anything else in the genre besides the above, really.
