@konicstar I bought Sonic Lost World recently as well. I'd made sure to download the free Yoshi and Zelda DLC before the eShop closed, but I hadn't realised there's also a bonus level which is only accessible using a download code that comes with the game, and of course you can't use that any more unfortunately.

As for the game itself, I've only played the first couple of levels so far and I'm not sure what to think of it yet. Maybe this is an issue with all the 3D Sonic games as I've only ever played the 2D ones before, but the whole 'gotta go fast' thing feels a bit at odds with the level design. As in, you're supposed to build up speed because that's what Sonic does, but it's awkward to control and you end up missing collectibles and things because you're going too fast. Maybe it'll be better once I get used to it more though.

I got DRAGON QUEST VIII PS2 USA version for 600,000 IDR or around $ 35 last week. 😁

@Dogorilla I also got the Nintendo levels under the same circumstances. And that NiGHTS level is available on the PC version. As a long time Sonic fan, and someone who did decently enjoy the 3DS version, I'm interested to see what I think.

I did not know, that the USA cover looks so good. Thanks for showing! I bought the German version last year. Hopefully I will find the time to beat it this year. It is such a great game. Enjoy!

@Dogorilla Worse still, the download codes for the Nightmare Zone were valid only for 1 year. So even if the eShop was still accessible, you couldn't even download it. This was for the American version, I don't know if they offered the Nightmare Zone to everyone in Europe or Japan.

I'll never understand SEGA's obsession of pre-order bonus DLC. Thankfully they seem to be changing, eventually they offered everyone the skins for Sonic X Shadow Generations of Sonic Adventure (pre-order bonus) and Sonic Jam (newsletter subscription); also the Blue Star Extreme Gear (SEGA Account) for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
The worst offender so far would be the SEGA clothing items for the avatars in Sonic Forces. They're inaccessible in America, but in Europe and Japan they're available to everyone. I know it's a minor nitpick, but I hate when companies do that.

So not a retro purchase, rather a cancellation of a retro purchase. After much deliberation, I cancelled my order for the SuperStation One the other day 😞

It's been just over a year since I placed the order (Jan 2025) and it actually looks like it might've been shipping soon(ish), but my circumstances have changed a lot since I ordered and I can't really justify that amount of spending on gaming stuff when I've got a massive backlog and less and less time to play. I've got enough games to last me well into the afterlife, and I'd probably be using the SuperStation One more as a MiSTer than for playing PS1 games, and I've already got other ways to play older stuff anyway. In all honesty, it would probably just have sat unused after a while - would much rather spend the cash on something useful.

@Dogorilla Sonic Lost World is a black sheep of Modern Sonic games imo. I played it back in 2015 when I bought my WiiU. Had the Deadly Six Edition. I gotten as far as Silent Forest before I simply gave up after not clicking with it well enough. Some of the stages...are...well...gimmicky. Plus...some of the level designs leave much to desire though I will say that Dessert Ruins act 3 was my personal fav. Plus...the boss fights are a complete joke compared to the 3ds version...which I haven't played aside from the demo back then.

Last time Lost World got any ports was the PC...but without the Legend of Zelda & Yoshi DLC...sans the Nightmare Zone DLC...Shame I don't see or hear folks talk or discuss that version much...

@Jhena
Something off with my PS2 Fat USA machine.
My PS2 Fat machine showing a little bit off set yellow color so the image on my TV looked like the yellow color a little bit distorted by moved to the right while the other colors still displayed correctly and it made the display from my PS2 Fat looked washed out compared with my PS2 Slim Japan which still displayed vivid colors.
Both of my PS2 FAT USA and PS2 Slim Japan using same PS3 component cable.

Anyway, I got Dragon Quest 8 PS2 USA with that cheap price from one seller who displayed that cheap price while the other sellers displayed inflated price from 1.5 - 2 million Rupiah.
My lucky day to get cheaper price option.

Soo...this...kinda not retro but still retro...but I bought Pokemon Platinum & SoulSilver on DS from Ebay. Now...these were authentic carts...more like...unofficial reprints or production carts? Yet...they play just as well as the originals but without paying a dirt ton of moolah. Next one is Pokemon Black I'll be getting along with Black 2...maybe.

@Anti-Matter
Sorry to hear about the technical difficulties. I have no knowledge about such things, but I hope you can fix it somehow. Around 35 $ is a great price, for a game like that, and I am glad, that you were able to get it so much cheaper.

@HammerGalladeBro I didn't know that, glad I didn't rush to buy the game before the eShop closed just to get that download then. It's definitely an annoying practice not to have all the content in the game as standard.

@DanijoEX-The-Kumiho Shame you didn't like it, I'll definitely give it more of a chance though and maybe I'll come to enjoy it. It'll be cool to try out the Yoshi and Zelda levels at least.

Last year I spent my Valentine's weekend with Samus Aran. Now, this year I'll spend my Valentine's weekend with Sonic and Fox* with Sonic Adventure 2: Battle and Star Fox Adventures, both for the Gamecube.

Both of them were rather expensive, but totally worth it because they're CIB, a rarity for my area, and the discs themselves are very well kept.

*And yes that sounds wrong depending on how you look at it, but no, it's not for weird things.

EDIT: 3 days later and now I'm eyeing copies of Disney's Magical Mirror Starring Mickey Mouse, Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO and SSX On Tour (the GC version that has Mario, Luigi and Peach as guests). Maybe also Tatsunoko vs. Capcom: Ultimate All-Stars for the Wii.

I picked up Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 to add to my Dreamcast collection.

I've played the GameCube versions sooo many times, but there's just something special about playing them on the Dreamcast.

@BentIeyma Dude...you keep reminding me that I still have Sonic Shuffle & Rayman 2 for Dreamcast...which to me is the definitive version of Rayman 2.

@BentIeyma It that a custom case for Sonic Adventure? I remember those flimsy blue and clear plastic cases for DC games were horrible. I don't think I have/had any that didn't end up with the hinges broken almost immediately.

@BentIeyma a cousin had a Dreamcast back when he came to visit some relatives in 2001. I remember playing some Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and City Escape in Sonic Adventure 2, that experience prompted me to get the Gamecube version of SA2 back in 2002 (I used to own it before I lent my copy to a friend who lost it in 2006, hence my recent second copy).

I'm trying to remember if I also played Emerald Coast in Sonic Adventure. I think I did.

As an aside, I love the sign on the background.

An 8BitDo N30 2.4g for the original NES.

I wish they'd offer a more exciting and fun color scheme than this gross transparatent black. But eh, I'm not paying triple the amount for the original N30 2.4g(Brand new/Sealed, off eBay) that sort of leans more towards looking like an original NES controller. Besides, i like that the new Black variant supports USB-C instead of USB Micro for charging.

But ya, I've had this controller before, but in the original older flavour, but i lost it. lol It truly is the best wireless NES controller there is. Feels premium and it only has around 4ms of latency. And forget the Retro-Bit 'Origin8' (2.4G) that thing is a cheap piece of junk. The only redeemable qualities are the fanastic tactile feeling Start & Select Buttons that rival even the OEM's, with also no awkward rectangular concave box surrounding S&S, smooth corners & the appearance of the GameBoy Varient looks frikkin fantastic!. I still have mine, but it's pretty much dissolved into video game decor. Why? Because the D-pad is too sunken in and mushy. B&A feel pretty cheap, the controller rattles like crazy and the inclusion of those weird pesky L&R buttons just get in the way.

As for Wired, I've tried >

NES, Dog Bone, Max, and then 3rd party wired controllers like with the Hyperkin Cadet, Old Skool & 'NC'(From Amazon). The only 'wired' NES controller that I'd recommend is the original NES pad with brand new high end replacement conductive pads that feel nearly identicle to the real thing.

The wired Hyperkin Cadet would of been another recommendation, if it weren't for the overly stiff/hard D-pad. And it cracks me up that 3rd party's continue to put the controller cable on the upper left top hand side instead of just in the middle, like every other Wired controller in existense. Forget the NES Authenticity, just stick it in the middle like the Dog bone for crying out loud.

Besides, I'm pretty much over the original NES controller. The concave topped B&A buttons feel dated. The rubber based Start & Select feel prehistortic, which are also stuck in a concave box which makes them even more weird, unsatisfying and unintitive to press, it's got sharp/pointy corners and again the cable is placed at the top left corner...It's got plenty of room for improvement that's for sure. N30 at least does away with cable placement, but it still feels close to that of a brand new NES pad, like with the NES Classic Mini's or NSO NES.

@dmcc0

whatever you are going through, I hope things are alright for you. ✌️♥️

not getting the Superstation I'm sure is a blow after anticipating it for so long, but it sounds like you've got a clear idea of your gaming needs and goals, and good priorities.

Personally, I spent a bit lately on game stuff but in service of having the tools i need to play the first half of a couple dozen 16/32 bit JRPGS again work on my backlog, and actually not spend very much at all going forward 😊👍

@Hapless The Gamecube was such an awesome console. So many great games and the third party line up was so good. I often found Gamecube versions of multiplat games the best versions. Ges like Soul Calibur II just seem to run better on Gamecube then the PS2 or Xbox version. Then you had games like the WWE Day of Reckoning games were way better then Sony's Smackdown series and Xbox's Raw series.

Gamecube also felt and looked like a gaming console. From its cube design with its handle on the back totally the awesome.colors like Spice Orange, Platinum and even the Purple color back when consoles weren't afraid to look like soulless gaming computers and only offered white or black consoles.

Then of course the lack of online connectivity made it feel even more like a Gaming console and not a PC. It just felt like the last "video game" console before the all started to feel more like low end PCs. I am sure @Neonpizza will agree here. Out of the more modern consoles Gamecube is the one that I wouldn't mind going back and collecting if I still collected.
