I have Spartan-X2. Pretty fun game, even if it's beatable in like 15 minutes. (well Normal mode. I couldn't beat Expert mode, which is pretty much the same except you can't take as many hits)
I was referring to how the first game was released in Japan under both names "Kung Fu" and "Spartan-X", but the former title is the RDL-friendly version (same game but probably 10x the price).
I want to guess Kung Fu was printed first, then it was quickly rebranded to match a Jackie Chan movie. But I'm not sure. (only going by some ebay listings I've seen that show the back of the rare cart, and the standard Nintendo warning label had an earlier date revision on it, which would suggest it's earlier)
What's odd is that supposedly there was ANOTHER Kung Fu II that was an arcade game that was never released. Made in like 1987 it was probably too similar to the first game and maybe that's why it was canceled.
My latest purchase is a strange one. Image Fight for the Famicom, complete. Despite that I already have a loose NES copy.
Saw a bit of a difference in an emulator, curious to check out a real copy if it's different and it was relatively cheap. (although the price does seem to be rising like other Irem games)
I only learned of Image Fight's existance about 5 minutes ago when I finally installed dotEMU's Irem Arcade Hits for the PC. It has so many games I've never even heard of...that's what I get for buying a collection just to play one fairly obscure arcade game...
That's about how much I paid for that game in similar condition. Never did get a chance to try it...
I've heard it described as the PlayStation 1's answer to 3D Zelda, the 2D one being Alundra.
It's still an action game, but it has a lot more RPG elements added in. I'd say Spyro would be the PS1's version of Zelda IMO, although it has some more platforming elements.
Well you use a sword and have actual towns to visit in Brave Fencer Musashi when compared to Spyro. Also, it actually reminds me more of Majora's Mask than Ocarina of Time since there's a day/night system and people have their own schedules.
Backloggery. Now playing: 3D Dot Game Heroes, Donkey Kong, EarthBound Beginnings, Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams, and Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+.
So i've been a bit lazy and haven't posted the latest ShpydarhaulTM yet, but here we are. The retro shop had its grand opening in the new storefront location a couple weeks ago, and the place was PACKED. Very cool. In case anyone wants to check them out, hit them up at Video Game Trading Post (it's their FB page, plenty of cool pics).
Now, on to the haul!
Spider-Man (N64) - Just happened to watch Glenn Plant's review of this game like a day or two before hitting the shop, thought it looked worth a buy, and lo and behold i found the cart. And of course, since i am who i am, you know i had to grab it.
Robocop vs. Terminator (SNES) - Very cool game. Only played a bit so far, but blasting Terminators as Robocop is so satisfying. The storyline is pretty cool too — Skynet uses Murphy's Robocop-ified brain to basically allow it to gain domination, leading to Judgement Day (or something), so now Robocop has to right the wrong. I'd buy that for a dollar!
Castlevania II: Simon's Quest (NES) - As some of you know, i actually love this game, so decided to grab the cart. I would love to also eventually get a repro-cart of the Simon's Redaction version (i've played it on emu, and it is very well done), but i don't know if anywhere is making them (yet).
Goonies II (NES) - I was barely 10 when Goonies came out, so obviously i absolutely loved the film (and still do). So when this game came out, i was all over it. It's an interesting game, and can be a bit confusing as far as where to go, etc, but a very fun game nonetheless. And you gotta love the chiptune version of Cyndi Lauper's "Good Enough".
Pink GBA SP (backlit AGS-101 version) - I've wanted a backlit SP for a while, and it's also time to retire my NES-style SP, as the power switch is getting iffy, so now it's relegated to a CIB display piece. I love the pink color, and the screen is fantastic. (Note: in the pic, the weirdness on the screen is actually the reflection of my ceiling; the screen is perfect and unblemished).
And of course ...
ET (2600) - Another copy, got it tossed in for free. When i was at the shop, i (jokingly) yelled at Mike (the owner), "Come on, Mike, What the hell?! Where are all the ETs for me?!" He went in the back and brought out a Hefty bag full of Atari stuffs, tossed it at me and said "If any are in there, they're yours!" And indeed there was one - there's always an ET in any pile of Atari stuff ... at least until my plan for world domination comes to fruition!
@Waveboy: Lol yeah ain't that the truth. I don't know what it is but I love the older consoles pick up and play style of sports games. Now it seems to be able to enjoy a sports game on these modern consoles you have to be a high school coach to know what your doing.
@the_shpydar Another nice haul there man. I always look forward to seeing your hauls.
As for me I think I have finally decide to work on my Sega collection that is I am going to be looking for Genesis and Dreamcast games now and possible Master System for when I get a converter.

I have not played this game but the box was awesome. The cover was actually a plastic(?) mold of the logo so it was... the world's only 3D boxart... maybe!
The only other weird SNES box I know if Claymates. It was a lenticular print sticker. Though it was cool, the sticker won't stick to my box anymore. I don't know if it's just a problem with age. (then again, I have a Flintstones DVD box set with such a sticker and once I opened it the sticker pretty much never stuck.

Yeah, i've had my eye on trying to snag a good condition boxed copy of the game for a while, but it usually goes for a bit more than i've wanted to spend on it. And since i've wanted to play the game for a while, i figured i'd grab this copy before it was gone as it was fairly cheap.
@WaveBoy
Nice. I have always loved Kung Fu, i still play it quite frequently. And i just happened to play through all of Gyromite for the first time recently (using my tried and true "foot pedal" method since i picked up the ROB lever-piece as pictured in an earlier ShpydarhaulTM post).
Gyromite holds an extremely nostalgic spot for me, since it was the first NES game i ever played. Though the first game NES i ever saw was SMB at a (rich) friend's house, i didn't actually play it — he would be playing SMB while i was playing either Goonies or Zorro on his Commodore 64 on the other side of his tricked-out finished basement (the place was huge and awesome, complete with a full-size bumper-pool table). But when i finally got an NES of my own a few months later, it was the deluxe set that came with ROB, Gyromite and Duck Hunt — i wouldn't get SMB until some time later, so my original NES playing days was all Gyromite and Duck Hunt.
Um, I'd say Bomerman Hero, Turok 1, and Turok 2. Bought them last week, I also bought Mario and Luigi Partner's In Time with those three games but that's not retro :3

im gonna get that eventually. im getting it for blade master and undercover cops arcade versions. im not sure what the proper controller recommended is for that compilation...

Yes, I imagine lot's of pee on the floor. Who needs the can when they can piss into the abyss.
After reading about the story of Image Fight, it's kinda crazy.
So, there's an alien invasion or something and our pilot hasn't even finished combat flight school yet. So the first five levels are like his final exams and he's gotta pass them (90% average) before he can take that highway to the danger zone for the final three levels.

Ordered Suikoden V.
I see that one is quickly getting expensive but is it good? Reviews suggesting yes.
(it looks like its quickly approaching the infamously-expensive II but then maybe it will drop if Konami releases it on PSN. It took them ages between I and II but only months between II and III.)
Crystalis (NES) - Been wanting to get this for a while now, so finally pulled the trigger. Between this getting this game, Brain Lord, both Startropics games on VC and another item that should be arriving in the next week or two, i am overloaded with Zelda-style games to play. Huzzah!
Ice Hockey (NES) - Recapturing another NES game i had back in the day. I remember being quite good at it back then, but after not having played it in probably 20+ years, i have since become rubbish. Also, the NES Max is perfect with this game - not for the turbo, but for the smoothness of the Max's circle pad thingy.
Duck Tales 2 (GB) - Never played this version of the game (and actually i barely remember playing the NES DT2). Thought it was worth a grab. Because, obviously, pogo-bouncing ducks are awesome.
WCW Mayhem (N64) - This game is so bad it hurts. It's like when EA took over the license for WCW games, they thought "Hmm, THQ made some of the best wrestling games of all time. Let's undo all of that and see just how bad a game we can make!" I actually owned this when it came out, and traded it in years ago. Picked it up just to see if it was really as bad as i remember, plus i got it for next to nothing.
And finally, the obligatory grab ...
ET (2600) + little ET figurine - I basically get ETs for free now at the shop. I was maybe 2 feet in the door when Mike yelled over to one of the employees for the ET stuff they put aside.
I actually spent probably half my time at the shop giving Mike a little education on rare expensive Atari games, specifically Atlantis II and Subterranea (ironically, both of which i need for my Imagic 2600 collection). Showed him which style Atlantis carts that A2 appears on and how to tell the difference between the games, and tipped him off on how much he can get for a copy of Subterranea — he has a copy, but had no idea that it regularly goes for at least $100 (and usually much more) on eBay, even for mediocre-condition cart-only copies.
the punisher for genesis and ninja warriors for snes ...or is it?

Crystalis is pretty neat, though I should note that the developers seemed to have overdid the "overscan" feature or whatever, since even on old TVs on original hardware, you'll see a good chunk of the graphics on the wrong side of the screen.
Also, get ready to be switching swords via the pause menu mid-battle a lot...
