Sequel

I was disappointed that Wind Waker & Twilight Princess did not getting switch rerelease announcements a month or so ago, Zelda's 35th anniversary was a bit of a wash. I never completed wind waker and have been wanting to complete it, though not enough to dig out and set up my wii u.

Turns out they done me a favour. I ended installing Cemu on my Steam Deck and booting up Wind Waker (note: I do own the game) and it runs flawlessly. Better actually, I added super sharp shadows, boosted textures, removed ssao, and boosted the resolution up to 1440p which packs my 800p screen with extra detail so it's razor sharp and crisp. It's really amazing.

Has anyone else been using steam deck for Nintendo emulation, would be nice to hear others stories and experiences. Remember you must own the ganes and downloading or Sharing roms is illegal.

Well like you said They won’t release it on the switch, and Seeing as I’m not made of money, and Can’t pay for an overpriced console, (Which if I’m sure I could find if I really try) so I will be emulating these games if I wish to play them. But I want to wait some more to see if it comes on the switch.

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

Definitely a missed opportunity not having it on the Switch yet IMO. With that said I'm not really in that much of a rush to revisit it and I think there are far more interesting things they could do. For Zelda I'd honestly prefer to see another 2D Zelda, whether it's a new game entirely or a Link's Awakening HD like remaster of the Oracle games or something. But yeah, of all the Zelda games Wind Waker probably holds up the best

With that said, in terms of looking for "high res" Zelda on PC? I'm far more interested in the Ocarina of Time decompile could potentially produce. Both because it could actually deliver something significantly beyond what Nintendo has actually delivered anywhere yet and also because it's just a tad more interesting than dropping a ROM in an emulator.

I mean, Wind Waker HD? It already existed on Wii U WITH GamePad support. Emulating the Wii U (or worse GC) iso can only really be a downgrade. Ocarina of Time? The best version is the 3DS release which had gyro and 3D sure but it also targeted 240p....

Where I live, it's not illegal to download them, just to distribute them.

@NeonPizza We already got a Link's Awakening remake, you mean Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link?

Games I'm playing right now:
Tears of the Kingdom - Switch

Kingdom Hearts 2 - PS4
Ace Attorney Trilogy - Switch

I'm sure they'll come, probably during the Switch's final years. They need some Zelda content post Tears, I guess.

The Switch has been my Zelda machine. Very satisfying replays of the N64 Zelda, which cemented their status in my personal canon, and introductions to Skyward Sword, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, and the 1986 original. (And, of course, Breath of the Wild.) I'm shoring up the confidence to actually tackle Zelda II one day. I'd then only need Twilight Princess to finally complete all the mainline (non-portable) Zeldas. So I hope it does arrive eventually...

@Beaucine Nice! That's quite a feat, have you beaten Four Swords Adventures and Windwaker too? Oh, and Twilight Princess is my 2nd favorite Zelda game and my 2nd favorite game of all time (Breath Of The Wild is #1), I hope it comes so you get to experience it eventually!

I'm currently 6 games away from beating all 19 (20 if you count Age Calamity) canon Zelda games, I just need the 2 Oracle games, Spirit Tracks, Both Fours Swords games, and Zelda II. I own all the games in some form except for Four Swords Adventures, and although I own Four Swords, I'm unable to play it because you need four separate GBAs with the game and connecting cables...

Tears of the Kingdom - Switch

Kingdom Hearts 2 - PS4
Ace Attorney Trilogy - Switch

@FroZtedFlake

Well, if we're counting the handheld games, then I have a whole lot more to catch up on! Link's Awakening is the only non-console title I finished.

As for Wind Waker, yeah, I played that one back when I briefly had a (second-hand) Gamecube in 2009. I remember liking it a lot, though it's not quite top-shelf for me. (The only Zelda I don't love, though, is Skyward Sword. It's otherwise a very consistent franchise.)

@EllaTheKawaiiNeko I am sure Nintendo's lawyer's agree to that, why not tell them that.

Dude, never tell Nintendo you pirate. You might not be able to go to jail, but ya'll know how much Nintendo hates pirating, even in the situations where they don't even make the game anymore and you can't find it anywhere.

@FroZtedFlake I really wish they would release Four Swords again especially the 3DS version where you can play with one player. That game right there is the main reason I get mad that my 3DS got stolen.

Nintendo didn't make the game I wanted, and I am too lazy to plug in my Wii U. So I stole it.

I would love wind water and twilight princess on switch, but I doubt it ever happens. I wouldn’t mind it if the oracle games were remade in the links awakening art style.

Logically there's not really any difference between ripping an ISO and emulating a game and other forms of media copying. Technically copying BluRays you've brought to a NAS is the same. As is ripping CDs so you can play back mp3s on your iPod. Or taping your favourite songs off the radio. Or using a VCR to record your favourite TV shows

Every media has gone through the same thing and without fail they've had to adapt to the change in technology. OP owns a copy of Wind Waker HD on the Wii U and because Nintendo hasn't released that game on the Switch is choosing to emulate said game on the Steam Deck. The long term solution to that problem for platform holders? Create more open platforms, kill the idea of console generations, possibly even kill the idea of different platforms entirely at some point

But in the mean time? I wouldn't equate running an ISO of a disc you've paid for on an emulator with "stealing". Because, to be blunt, that sentiment is as backwards as it has always been

@skywake Nintendo sticking to their 1982 precedent until they get explicitly told what consumer friendly laws are in the 21st century.

I had a long thing written up but it got eaten.
A few examples of them whining about piracy while doing anti-consumer things.
Super Mario Bros. DX in Japan and Donkey Kong: Original Edition in NA only being released on 3DS eShop through really old and expired promotions. Basically can't get a "legit" copy of either anymore.
Those are FIRST-PARTY GAMES, no good reason they shouldn't be available to the public to buy a decade later.
(I believe some people thought the Final Fantasy 1 3D version on the JP 3DS eShop was exclusively a preorder bonus for FF Explorers, but that is incorrect. The game had remained available to buy individually on a JP console.)
And Fire Emblem Fates is a game I'm going to maintain a grudge against for the SE, as one of the biggest load of BS I've ever seen them do.

Banjo-

One of the best gaming experiences this generation was playing the Ocarina of Time native Wii U port at 60fps. That's something Nintendo hasn't offered yet. The official Wii U version of Ocarina of Time is dark and laggy emulation.

The best version of Super Mario 64 I've played is the 3DS native port. You read right, I didn't play it on PC but 3DS.

I have all Nintendo consoles except NES and Virtual Boy. I'm curious to see how Switch games that struggle to run properly would run on Steam Deck or its successor. Switch is the most disappointing hardware that Nintendo has released (obviously, this is my opinion).

I own these games, even multiple copies, but Nintendo makes it so hard to play retro games and some new games are presented poorly because of hardware limitations. It should be like on Xbox instead of establishing infinite fees: upgrade fee, mandatory subscriptions to play retro games, etc.

That said, when I read Nintendo Life, I find vocal groups more than happy with what Nintendo offers, even when it's zero improvements for a price. That's what makes threads like this so interesting, because it's like finding some common sense in the fan base.

Super Mario 64 3DS native port?
Do you mean that launch game for the original DS? @Banjo-
