I probably played SMB3 first at a friends house and certainly played and loved it later with Super Mario All stars but my first console was the SNES and therefore SMW was the game that got the most play time.
Without sounding like a fan boy I just love everything about SMW from start to finish, my only complaint is that Nintendo have never made a true sequel to it.
Hopefully this is something they will address in the near future
^ It has a true sequel: Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. Just because it's not the same game with slightly different levels doesn't change the fact (and thank god Nintendo didn't take a boring route like that.) Anyways, i vote Super Mario World also.

Yoshi's Island is a completly differant game, its a sequal in name only, if anything its more of a Prequal. Read some of the comments on the main home page from when Nintendo anounced New Super Mario Bros 2, it seems I'm not the only one who wants Nintendo to make another Super Mario World type game
For the record dont get me wrong I'm not bashing Yoshi's Island at all but i've just never seen it as a true sequal. I guess we'll just have to agreed to diss-agree on this one so to speak
SMB3 was really mindblowing for its time and got some of the absolute greatest level, map and item design ever. With the frog suit, hammer suit, Kuribo's shoe, a world with colossal enemies, a pipe world and the sheer awesome of World 8 it’s the most self-confident and most out there Mario title so far imo. Gotta love that. At least concerning the essential 2D Mario gameplay so I’m not counting SMB2 and Yoshi’s Island here. SMW on the other hand is the most versatile game of the series, maybe even the most versatile 2D platformer ever made. With the cape and different Yoshis there are so many ways to play it and everything in the game invites you to explore and discover everything it has to offer imo. The secret exits and the better boss designs make this game more satisfying to me. It truly was one of the titles that showed how deep a game can feel when it nearly doesn’t have to face any limits anymore. So yeah, SMW for me. A game that combines the strengths of both games And maybe even includes some of NSMB’s powerups would be fangasm overkill though.
My vote is for Super Mario World. While Super Mario Bros. 3 did lots of new things, Super Mario World just felt like a better experience that mixed together better than what SMB3 presented. I still think both games are really good though.

My first game ever was Super Mario Bros. 3 on the Game Boy Advance so I'll always have a special liking for that game, but I also had Super Mario Bros. 2 and Super Mario World on my GBA as well which made me like World better I know I'm young.
I'm surprised Super Mario Bros. 3 isn't getting more love! I definitely think it's the stronger of the two - it doesn't have the same free movement as World so it feels a bit more linear, but the inventory and large amount of mini-games and hidden games are amazing. I think World feels more polished because content-wise it actually has LESS. Just my opinion though.
Some of my favorite games:
Ghost Trick, StarFox 64, WarioLand: Shake It, Kid Icarus, The Legendary Starfy, Endless Ocean: Blue World, Zelda: Minish Cap, Pokemon Snap, Diamond Trust of London, Gyromite, Katamari Damacy, EarthBound, Mario Kart 7, and Sonic Generations(PS3).
@Emaan1 not criticising you or anything but you could make these more interesting by making the games completely different like say a sega genesis game VS a xbox 360 game for fun.
I only vote for Ocarina of Time because I haven't played A Link to the Past yet, crazy I know
@MrArcade, I'm just having two critically acclaimed games that are often compared go against eachother. Plus, they're games most people have played, so its easier to do a vote that way. There's already a This or That thread for random games you want to compare.
