Ocarina of Time Golden Skulltula question - Retro Forum

As someone who prefers to avoid guides when playing through games, I'm curious: Are there any in-game hints at all about the fact you need to drop bugs on patches of dirt to reveal Golden Skulltulas? I'm currently replaying OoT 3D and stumbled upon this fact while reading about how magic beans worked. Again, is there anyone or anything in the game itself that tells you to do this? It seems way too cryptic to be able to figure out at random. And I'm aware the cursed family's leader tells you that Golden Skulltulas hide in dirt, but I don't recall them mentioning anything about needing to dump bugs on said dirt.

It's the same song, but the fake Gregorian chanting they used makes a big difference. The first time I heard the original, it was a bit startling.
