@SKTTR, Metroid Prime is an amazing trilogy. Its more of a Metroid game than Other M could dream of.

Knowing Nintendo they must have not liked the STUPID way people reacted to Metroid Other M.

it all started really from that terrible- and somewhat laughable G4 rant, i meant, review by morgan, or what's-her-face. the score of 2 out of 5 put a lot of people off from buying the game, not to mention lots of scathing or hate towards the metroid franchise.

Wasn't she the same person who said Super Mario Galaxy 2 was too colorful and cartoony? LOL...

i'm not sure, but i wouldn't be so surprised if she did.

I don't expect the lack of celebrations has anything to do with Other M. I just don't see any way of properly celebrating the anniversary. They could reprint Metroid Prime Trilogy, but that's a weak celebration.

I think its 30th anniversary could be celebrated. Zelda's 30th won't have a very big celebration, nor with Kirby's 25th, so Metroid can take centre stage.

Anyone that can sit through this series without turning away due to boredom deserves some sort of prize but seriously, the least they could do is acknowledge the anniversary in some way; the series never won me over personally but it matters to a good proportion of the fan base and Samus is quite an iconic character for Nintendo after all.

if metroid wasn't a nintendo game, would the backlash towards other M be as huge as it was at the time? even final fantasy 13 and mass effect 3, as much as they've been criticised by the gaming press, gamers, didn't get a huge slaughtering as other M did.

I don't see why it gets all the hate it does.
On the topic of a 25th anniversary I believe @V8_Ninja said it best.

There was too much dialog, Samus looked like she always needed help, and the controls don't work too well with a Wii Remote
I would love a Metroid 25th Gift, but unfortunately, with the truly terrible sales of Other M, Nintendo has doubts in their heroine.
Becides that day has more to celebrate... Like the 25th Anniversary of Kid Icarus

maybe new metroid games announced at E3 for wii U, 3DS or either console would be one way of acknowledging its anniversary.

Honestly, a simple "Happy birthday Metroid!" banner or something on Nintendo's home page would be enough for me. They should at least give a nod to it and act like they know their own franchise.

But its pretty much universally known that barring the last five minutes of the game mass effect 3 is worthy of a 10/0.

And where have you been you do realize Eaa was voted worst company kn America because of mass effect 3 and they're changing the ending.

Final fantasy 13 is another game that was considered horrible and bad and got a lot of hate when it hit.

But both of those games had solid foundations where other m by all accounts was really really avergae.

Wonder what's worse other m or ninja gaiden 3.

Or this is on purpose and e3 will have a live concert for mtroid as they play the trailer for prime 4 by retro.

That's the thing. Metroid has a standard and very high reputation. What Other M offered by Team Ninja, was a slightly above average train wreck that left fans of Samus in disgust when they portrayed her as a whiny woman when she's supposed to be a ruthless, emotionless bounty hunter that has a desire to kill Ridley.

You have a point; If Other M wasn't a Metroid game, it would not nearly have been railed on as much as it has. However, I have seen some very structured arguments pointing out the game's flaws in terms of its narrative, a small portion of which don't even take into account the fact that the story is taking place in the Metroid universe.

@Chrono_Cross, and this goes the reason why I will never play Other M. I have to forget that game even happened

@Sony_70 i was aware of EA being voted worst company in america when it was reported that day. i was reading the tweets on twitter on it.

@Chrono_Cross, @V8_Ninja the scripting and characterisation of samus by sakamoto was terrible. some people have said team ninja are not to blame because they worked on the controls, but given their reputation with dead or alive, i was a little sceptical about what they would do to the game. which they did which angered fans.

the voice-acting didn't bother me, i had no issue with the voice acting because the actress said in an interview it was planned by the creators of the game for making samus sound whiny, monotone. as opposed to the argument that the voice actor was poor. the game play was all right, but the story was just so non-metroid like. i do hope team ninja doesn't work on further metroid games and that yoshio sakamoto takes into consideration the fans reactions of this game. both positive and negative and create another metroid game and write a better story.

it's a shame really that the metroid franchise- which was never that big as zelda and mario- has been tarnished in a negative fashion by everyone, due to other M. considering as when metroid prime, super metroid was praised by critics, fans, its appraisal wasn't as big as when other M rubbed gamers up the wrong way.

I'd just like to say that while I abhor Other M, I never thought of Samus like that.

If you don't think of Samus as a bad mammajamma then I don't want to know what you think of her.

One can be a bad mammajamma with out being ruthless. Seems like you didn't play super metroid.

Samus drops the Morph ball bombas.
