Topic: I'm looking for a good safe hdmi converter for GameCube.

I recently got an HDMI converter for my gamecube and something went horribly wrong. I don't know if i hooked it up wrong or what but the damn thing fried my gamecube. It was one of those usb powered hdmi converters. I plugged in a charging cable to the USB cord then when i turned it on the power LED on the cube flickered off then it wouldn't spin the discs anymore. Apparently the charger blew a fuse because i ended up having to buy a new power board and take apart my gamecube.

Anyway it's working again but I'm scared to even try another hdmi converter unless i know for sure it's not gonna fry my gamecube.

Any suggestions for a good hdmi converter for gamecube?

@Truegamer79 Eon gchd adapter. I personally recomend the carby hdmi adapter. I’ve had it for years and works great

I'm assuming you don't have the model that has the digital out and you're using a composite connection if you are using one of those powered USB converters? Similar to this? https://amzn.eu/d/fv0N84U

If that's the case then the Carby and GCHD are no use and you don't really have many other options other than the (many) different types of those powered USB converters.

I'd be surprised if an external powered USB converter was frying it to be honest, unless it's somehow sending a voltage straight back down the composite cables (unlikely). You could check by powering the converter without anything else connected and measuring for a voltage on the composite plugs.

@dmcc0 gcHD adapters plug into the digital out. That’s how you get 480p. The link you sent of item are really bad and you won’t get 480p out of it. It uses a composite signal

@1UP_MARIO yeah, I know. The OP said they were using a USB powered one and I was asking if that's the type they were using. Not all GC models have the digital port so GCHD and Carby won't work with those. If they do have an the digital port then obviously those are better than what they have.

Those USB ones are fine if you just want to hook it up cheaply.
