Topic: How do you get an ending in Super Mario Kart?

I was curious if anyone knows what you have to do to get an ending in Super Mario Kart for the SNES? I understand that in order to unlock the 150 cc cups, you have to get a gold trophy/finish in 1st place in the 100 cc Special Cup. But does anyone know if you will also get the ending sequence if you finish in second, third, or fourth place in the 100 cc Special Cup?

I am struggling mightily to finish in the top 4 of Rainbow Road, so winning the gold trophy is out, but I wanted to know if I will get the ending sequence if I can manage a top 4 finish in Rainbow Road and on the Special Cup overall!

I recall it shows the standard cup finish and screen and then only shows the ending afterwards for a first-place finish.
I believe there is also special text for the first place finish as well
Though I only know that from watching streams, I never did better than a silver finish as a kid.
I am at least glad to know from them that Donut Plains 3 was the real choke point. Enough for me to even be... inspired by it... when writing poetry for a school assignment once.
