Ocarina will always be The Best Game Ever, it was flawless. No matter how many games I play in the future, I am fairly certain nothing can replace it as my favourite game. Completing it 6 or so times with full skulls n hearts, must have claimed quite a chunk of my life, but i would (and probably will) happily do it all again.
Half Life is 2nd for me, similarly ground breaking to OoT and immensely influential. Both Half Life and Ocarina were released in the same month, and I was playing them both at the same time. Crazy when i look back upon it, but I was oblivious at the time. Definitely the most influential games upon me, and the industry.
Just straying from topic an inch. But i find it amusing that OoT will always be the best game ever. I agree, but here is why it is amusing. It has to do with the expectations at a point in time, and how impressive the technology around you is. Most of us were kids/teenagers when it launched, and had never seen anything like it. Our last experience being AlttP, the leap was huge. But i doubt if anyone who has never heard of the N64, picked it up today, that they would feel the same way. Regardless of them actually not being bias towards the graphics or sound. But from a pure gameplay perspective. Still, it has a special place in my heart.
Ocarina is a great game to play. But don't you always hope that a game will come along that is better? I do. If a game gets made that is better then the best game ever, well that would be...a pretty good game!
I concur wholeheartedly, despite not playing FFVII myself. I don't think it would ever beat OoT even if I had played it.

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
to be fair, it's a hard choice between the two, and not everyone would've been happy no matter which ended up on top.

I Agree, i also do prefer FFVII to OOT by a slim margin, probably because i played FFVII first.
Yeah, I'd say I agree. Ocarina of Time IS pretty epic, especially for the time, it's the #1 favorite game among many gamers, and it had a huge impact on gaming, about as much as FFVII did. I personally never thought it was THAT good, but you can't deny impact this game had on the entire gaming community.
Ocarina of Time changed 3-D gaming. How? By introducing the Lock-on targeting system ofcourse! (And featured for the first time in the series not only 3-D graphics but auto jumping)

Also... who cares about auto-jumping? What a minor and uninteresting feature.
Or lock-on for that matter. Z-targeting ruined Zelda. Just the first step in dumbing down the game.
Nice opinion! I don`t care! If it ruined Zelda we wouldn`t have had several new additions to the series and it wouldn`t have won Best Game Ever.
But I wasn`t focussing mainly on Zelda because theres plenty of other games with that same feature, just that I pointed out that Zelda introduced the lock-on targeting system. BTW don`t get cocky.
