Well technically the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16 was also 8bit, 8bit CPU 16bit GPU though it was never widely released in Europe and was never hugely popular in North America so it's often overlooked. The graphics were often less detailed than the Mega Drive/Genesis but the colours were very vibrant and punchy. There's a lot to like about the TG16. It had a small catalogue of games but there were a lot of gems and the music had a very nice 8bit sound much like a NES but stereo and a bit more detailed. I'd say the TG16 may have been the Dreamcast of that era. A lot of interesting shooters and not many RPG's but the Neutopia games are really good Zelda clones.I
Kirby's Adventure: Feels so fast paced for a NES game and beautifully styled too!
SMS: Sonic the Hedgehog 2: Yeah some think that this is a difficult game but once you've completed it the game gets easier! It's pretty good for what it can do.
Both can be both easy and hard at the same time also!
I only owned a NES as a kid so based on all the games I played as a kid I would go with Super Mario Bros.2, 3, Mega Man 2, 3, TMNT 2, 3 (wow i got thing for 2nd and 3rd installment of games), Double Dragon, 2, and Battletoads.
Miles better, dude. Phantasy Star 4 was too story based for my tastes, and it wasn't a good story either. There were fewer puzzles, less to explore, less charm, and less of a challenge, not to mention no more first-person dungeons, all for the sake of the stupid story. They really can't be compared. Phantasy Star was an adventure. Phantasy Star 4 was just another RPG.

Okay, I was planning to get PSI some time or another, but PS3 looks far too slow and the graphics don't look good to me. I can definitely see why PSIV has the highest score here. Better graphics, better music, better gameplay. Because who actually likes 3d fps 8bit dungeons anymore? EDIT: Nev mind, I doubt i'm getting PS1.

I never said PS3 was any good either. And numbers are just numbers they don't mean nothing. If you're just looking at the individual parts and scores, you're missing the big picture. And "Better" is always subjective.

Yo. Do you even understand how ignorant you sound right there? Of course there are people who still like those type of games, that's why they're still making them.
Sorry, I meant it looked good except for the dungeons . Not to mention some dated-looking battles... Anyways, my mistake, I thought you said PS3, not FF3
Okay if not 8-bit games in general but the era Than.... SMB3

Alright, well that does come down to taste. I'll admit, the combat in Phantasy Star is easily worst aspect out of the entire game. It's simle, and you don't even get to target what enemies your pawns actually attack. However, the combat is meerly a means to an end. What's really important is making smart decisions, knowing the best ways to use your magic and items, knowing when to run and when to fight (and knowing when to save), and learning the layouts of the dungeons to better ensure your success. It's something I don't think you can fully understand and appreciate until you actually play the game.
Phantasy Star is pretty amazing. I'm still a sucker for Nintendo's prized babies (Mario, LoZ, Metroid). Contra and Super C were great, too. I can't think of a lot right now, though. I was born in 1996 and I'm tired so... EDIT: Forgot Final Fantasy 1 and 4.
Mega Man 2.
Contra.
Super Mario Bros. 3.
Castlevania.
Punch-Out.
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons.
Shantae.
Pokemon Red.
Gargoyle's Quest.
Donkey Kong '94.
