@ThanosReXXX yeesh I remember those lap mounted ones when I was a kid, may as well just use the controller at that point. Makes a world of difference but if you don't use it at least once or twice weekly like I do I see your point. Glad you know your limits

@NEStalgia setup isn't really that bad at all. Takes less than a minute or 2,by the time a game is loaded up already ready. I don't sit at a desk either, built myself a stand that folds up nicely into a closet by the TV and slides right up to the couch. Only cost maybe $30 and an afternoon of time.

@Dezzy OG Xbox games on Xbox One S offer 4x the original resolution, better frame rate and some cleaned up textures, while on Xbox One X the list of added/improved features is considerably longer:

According to the wiki page on backwards compatible titles:

Backwards compatible original Xbox and Xbox 360 titles will benefit from becoming Xbox One X enhanced with the following:

Improved framerate stability
Games utilizing a dynamic resolution will hit their max resolution more often, or at all times
16x anisotropic filtering
Forced V-sync
Variable refresh rate compatibility (when used with a compatible display)

The original Xbox game Black, for example, goes up to 8 times the resolution, so that doubles the resolution of that on the Xbox One S.

@NEStalgia Ah, okay. In that case, I can understand being slightly reserved about the purchase.
I more or less assumed (my bad) that you already knew the game, but I guess I was wrong...

Oh well, in the end, it's of course all up to you, but in all honesty, I don't think it's going to get much cheaper than that, and personally, I have no problems whatsoever recommending this title to shooter fans. Everyone that I know that has an Xbox, last gen or current gen, knows and has played or owns the game, and they all like it, so at a certain point, it becomes a bit more than just a personal opinion.

And I can most definitely attest to the fact that me and my friends don't always agree...

@redd214 Well, with the included leg clamps, or whatever these things are called, it was actually pretty close to being in a go-kart for me. And of course, you could also stick 'em on a desk, so that you could get a more realistic distance between the chair and the steering wheel.

A friend of mine had actually mounted that first one I mentioned on a frame, at an angle, and the pedals as well, and that did indeed feel a bit more realistic, but yeah... for me it was already more than enough. Still got both of them, stored in the guest bedroom on top of a closet, so if ever I feel like playing a racing game on the ol' Cube or Wii, I can simply grab them out of their box and install them. And they are much simpler to store than an entire professional setup...

@NEStalgia By the way:
You should have just used that Xbox 360 "air wheel" that I ultimately didn't end up buying...

(and no, it isn't really called the Xbox 360 air wheel; that's just the nickname that I gave it. It's actually called the Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Speed Wheel)

redd214

@ThanosReXXX without any tension to simulate a real wheel don't really see the point in the air wheel, the FFB is what makes it worth it in the first place.

Ahh well it works for me and like I said makes a huge difference much like a fighting stick does for fighting game enthusiasts. You guys think it's a pain to set up a simple wheel, then you guys might have a stroke setting up VR lol

@redd214 Yosheel says that he is too lazy to press a button for quitting a game. I had fun playing racers at the arcades so it's probably fun having a similar setup at home. The closest thing I have is Wii Wheel.

@redd214 Which is exactly why I ultimately didn't buy it. I was tempted, though, even just for the novelty of it.
I remember grabbing it off the shelves and pondering the purchase several times in a couple of different stores where they sold it, but I put it back each time, and bought a game (or two) instead...

@redd214

P.S.

I don't think it's a pain to set up: that was just NES, for me it's simply too expensive, and I don't have the room in my apartment to install a setup like that, regardless of the fact that I can potentially fold it up to store it.

EDIT:
The Mad Catz steering wheel for GameCube actually did have force feedback, and it felt pretty realistic to me, so it really got me more immersed in the game than the standard controller. The König steering wheel did not have force feedback, well at least not on the GameCube or Wii, but perhaps it did on the PS2 or Xbox, which I never owned, so I wouldn't know.

@BlueOcean it is quite fun indeed if you can deal with a wire or two lol. Well worth it for the added control if you play a lot of racers.

Hm Microsoft customer service seems pretty slow.

I've been a several days waiting for them to give me the month of game pass promised in the box of my bundle, and when they finally reply it's to ask for more pictures of the box to make sure it reaaally promises a month.

But hey, usually when I complain about something online, things mysteriously speed up. So here I am. Complaining with unrelated people on a forum they won't read.

@Yosheel Pictures of the box? I thought all bundles were the same across all regions. My free month of Game Pass was simply activated by using one of those scratch cards with a redeemable code on it, and that card was already inside the box.

Eel

Yup, mine didn't have a card for the game pass code. My brothers' did.

They wanted more pictures of the box. Not much I can do besides send them.

@Yosheel had an issue with mine too when I activated it. Don't recall where I got the code from but it wouldn't register. Had it fixed in half an hour though. Hope you get it straightened out!

@ThanosReXXX Thanks for letting me know.

redd214

ThanosReXXX

@Yosheel Ah, okay. Still sounds a bit odd to me, though. Anyway, knowing Microsoft, it'll work out in the end, delays and all. Never had any complaint about them myself, concerning any service of any Xbox I own.

And I was actually a victim of the Red Ring Of Death on the Xbox 360, but they fixed that within the space of 10 days, and gave me a free month of Xbox Live Gold on top of the free repair, so I'm pretty satisfied with their service overall.

NEStalgia

@ThanosReXXX Yeah the Wireless Speed Wheel replaced the real 360 wheel (granted, the real 360 wheel was recalled due to...possibly....smoking...maybe (it's like buying a real Ford! ) ; Not sure if my SKU was affected. That Speed Wheel thing was weird (and looks like an MS Flight Simulator accessory....) The real wheel was actually really nice....just a hassle to deal with. And potentially a fire hazard. I still have it though if I ever feel like desk clamps and smoking jackets...

Edit: Force feedback and everything. It was really a nice piece.

@NEStalgia Ah, yes, that one. I remember also checking that one out and deciding that although really nice,
it was also too rich for my blood...

What's that small compartment on the right of the steering wheel for? Memory card? Or is that for a stick accessory?

@redd214 Not buying one right now but what are the best wheel and pedals for Xbox One?

@NEStalgia If there is the slightest risk of something catching fire or exploding I would never let you come nearby! Do you own any good wheel for Xbox One?

@BlueOcean the logitech G920 or the Thrustmaster TMX are both good entry points. Both are about $200 but do go on sale often enough. There are cheaper ones out there in the sub $100 range but most around there don't include FFB which imo is the most important aspect. Get what you pay for and all that

You can search the web and find plans to make your own wheel stand if need be out of wood or even pvc piping. There are also so entry level stands in the 100 - 200 range that are easy to assemble and can fold up compactly (yes even for those in apartments lol)

Of course there's high end stuff up into the thousands but if you're just getting started I think either of those are good. Would give the edge to the logitech though as it has a clutch pedal so if you ever wanted to add a shifter in the future you wouldn't need new pedals also.

Hope it helps
