1. Metroid Prime Hunters (NDS, Wii U VC)
2. Xenoblade Chronicles (Wii, Switch)*
3. ARMS (Switch)*
4. Animal Crossing: Wild World (NDS)
5. Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)
6. Super Metroid (VC, SNES Classic)
7. Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (GBA)
8. New Super Mario Bros. (NDS)
9. Super Mario 64 DS (NDS)
10. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
10. Super Mario Sunshine (GCN)
12. Meteos (NDS)
13. Mario Kart DS (NDS)
14. Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass (NDS)
15. Pokemon Black (NDS)

*ARMS is a better Switch game than Xenoblade Chronicles, because the latter looks not that great in handheld mode. Xenoblade Chronicles though is still the most mind blowing game I've played due to how much it was able to get out of the Wii and maintain a high level of quality in all aspects.

@gcunit I guess Rory McIlroy, lots of courses, looks great, the physics is spot on, it's just enjoyable to play. The problem is, it doesn't keep track of your best scores, there are limited multiplayer options, and when playing vs a friend, it doesn't show your relative scores, etc.. Compared to something like Mario Golf on the N64, which nailed this sort of thing, it's miles behind.

Based purely on systems I've owned and may not even necessarily the best games I've even played on that system, but these ones stuck in my mind for whatever reason. Roughly chronological order:

1 Chuckie Egg (Dragon 32)
2 Leaderboard Golf (C64)
3 Sensible World Of Soccer (Amiga)
4 Double Dragon (Arcade)
5 Chase HQ (Arcade)
6 Championship Manager (Amiga)
7 Virtua Tennis (Dreamcast)
8 Metropolis Street Racer (Dreamcast)
9 Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
10 Pokemon Diamond (DS)
11 Mario Galaxy (Wii)
12 Arkham Asylum (PS3)
13 Red Dead Redemption (PS3)
14 Assassin's Creed II (PS3)
15 X-Com Enemy Unknown (PC)

Interesting that I owned a Megadrive, but couldn't think of a single standout game that I owned for it. In fact, the only games that I remember owning at the time were Sonic 2 and an NHL game. There were definitely others, but obviously not memorable enough that I actually remember owing them!

Nothing so far on Switch (that I've played) I would consider in my all-time greats yet. Mario + Rabbids comes closest though; it would probably make the top 30!

Honourable Mentions:
Star Wars, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Outrun, Final Fight (arcade)
Tetris (GB)
Turrican 2, Stunt Car Racer (Amiga)
Power Stone, Marvel vs Capcom 3 (Dreamcast)
Lego Batman (PS2)

@dmcc0 Double Dragon, SWoS, CM and Arkham Asylum - that’s a fair bit of overlap with my list. I was seriously weighing up Chase HQ too!

Also, kudos for Metal Gear Solid, Virtua Tennis, Lego Batman (great game!), and especially Chuckie Egg. Had that on Amstrad - great game. I am now going to have to look up what a Dragon 32 is...

@Krull the Dragon 32 is a classic! It's the only computer that I remember my whole family used to play: even my parents! I think my brother still has it in his loft along with the C64 and the Amiga!

I'm going to limit myself to one game per franchise to add more variety to the list. To be honest this list isn't really concrete, I think it would take a lot longer to really reflect on all the games I've played, but this is what comes to mind right now.

1. Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD(Wii U)
I think it's safe to say Wind Waker is my favorite game of all time. Zelda is my favorite game series in general, and if I didn't limit myself to one game per franchise I would have included a lot more Zelda games on the list. Breath of the Wild, A Link Between Worlds, and Majoras Mask would likely have made it.

2. Zero Escape: Virtues Last Reward (3DS)
Very interesting story combined with really fun escape room style puzzles. I'm a fan of Professor Layton, and I feel like the Zero Escape series is essentially like Professor Layton on steroids.

3. Super Mario Sunshine (Gamecube)
I play this game a lot, and if I were to ever pick a game to speed run I'd probably go with this one. Similar to Zelda, there are quite a few Mario games I could put on this list, Super Mario World and Mario Odyssey probably being the next likely contenders, but Sunshine comes out on top for me.

4. Nier Automata (PS4)
Weird but really interesting story, great voice acting, and extremely fun combat. Definitely my favorite Platinum game by far.

5. Baten Kaitos Origins (Gamecube)
Baten Kaitos is an extremely underrated series. It's one of the only games that does card combat well. Most people prefer the original but I think the prequel is better.

6. Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna the Golden Country (Switch)
Xenoblade Chronicles is a great series, so it was a tough choice, but I went with Torna. It's not as long as the main games but it easily has my favorite combat out of all of them, and the sidequests feel pretty rewarding to complete.

7. Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (3DS)
Very solid JRPG with a unique combat system, interesting story, great voice acting, and good art style. Can't really ask for much more.

8. Danganronpa 2 (PS4)
Love the Danganronpa games, they're some of the most engaging visual novels I've played. Being a visual novel makes it not as fun to replay, but honestly I still love listening to the class trials.

9. Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove (Switch)
The pinnacle of 2D platforming. To be honest, when Shovel Knight first came out I actually wasn't the biggest fan of it, but I went back to replay it on Switch last year along with the additional campaigns and I completely changed my mind. The Specter Knight and King Knight campaigns are just so good.

10. Hollow Knight (Switch)
I love metroidvania games, and Hollow Knight really hits that genre out of the park. Very polished experience combined with an amazing art style.

11. Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)
My favorite FE game by far. Out of all the FE games I've played I think it has the best art style, gameplay, and presentation.

12. Persona 5 Royal (PS4)
I think out of any game I've played this one probably does the best job at making you feel connected to its world and characters. Everything is so polished and stylized, and it also has a really good combat system.

13. Rune Factory 4 (3DS)
I wanted a farm sim game on my list because I'm a huge fan of them, and it was a tough choice between this, Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, and Stardew Valley. While I have way more nostalgia for Harvest Moon: AWL, I went with Rune Factory 4.

14. Super Metroid (SNES)
To be honest I could put pretty much any mainline Metroid game here, but Super Metroid is the one I still go back to play the most.

15. The World Ends With You (DS)
Specifically the DS version here. I tried the Switch version but really couldn't get into it. The DS version did the combat system so well.

I'll also give some special shout outs to the Dragon Quest Series and Tales series, if I were to rank series as a whole they'd probably make the list. In addition to what I mentioned in my explanations I'll also give honorable mentions to Celeste, Undertale, Paper Mario TTYD, Chibi-Robo, Pikmin, Fallout 3, The Last Story, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

@6ch6ris6 I assume you probably prefer the PSX original over Twin Snakes right

I personally thought MGS3 was where the series truly peaked in regards to perfecting the stealth gameplay, but MGS1 is dripping in atmosphere

@TheFrenchiestFry i never played the gamecube version of MGS, but i know that they changed some of the cutscenes and i really dont like the few i saw.
and i never understood the hype for MGS3. not saying its bad. it's awesome of course, but it might be my least favourite MGS game. i think it has the weakest story. some of the boss battles are amazing though.
the best gameplay by far has MGSV. like no other MGS game comes even close to the gameplay of MGSV. it is stealth gameplay perfection. i have no idea how anyone can argue with that.

@6ch6ris6 MGS3's story is lighter than either MGS1 or 2 but I think it helps make the game a lot more accessible to new players, especially since it positions itself as a prequel, and the game legitimately has some pretty powerfully emotional moments regarding Naked Snake and his dynamic with the Boss, as well as him coming to terms with the fact that she didn't "defect" for the sake of betrayal but servicing her country. MGS1 has my second favorite story in the series but there's some rough spots with it like having to leave Meryl behind while she's literally coping with multiple bullet wounds from a sniper rifle, only to come back from changing the temperature on the POW key and she's suddenly missing because you basically left her out in the open, as well as the game kind of treating Snake a bit like he's dumb or just unaware of the current situation given he tries to call out the Colonel on lying multiple times but literally never gets a straight answer and is just reluctantly ok with it.

I purposefully didn't mention MGSV because while it does have the best overall gameplay in the series, I can honestly get by in that game without much stealth because going in offensively is probably way more effective there than pretty much any of the Metal Gear games. MGS3 I feel is probably the one game where I feel the stealth portion is most effectively executed.

thats the thing. i just dont feel anything between naked snake and the boss. just "meh, okay".

in MGSV you can adjust the difficulty to your style. i turned off the feature of slow motion when snake is detected for example. i thought that would make the game to easy and from reading your comment, i guess i was right. might have even changed more to make the game a bit more difficult. cant remember
