Sony's conference last year was good. It made up for their 2006 dreck. They showed tons of new games, new IP's, a new handheld, that 3D split-screen TV, it was good. It's like they were thinking, "here's some stuff we know you'll like," and shoved it in our faces.

Nintendo's Wii U presentation last year got me excited, it was the highlight of their show. well that, and the sexy Zelda orchestra

Microsoft has done terrible for the last few years, IMO. Kinect, Kinect, Kinect! Kids everywhere! It's kind of awkward, if you ask me. Halo 4 was a big surprise, since everyone thought Halo 3 was the end of the series. That's basically the only 1st-party Xbox game I'm looking forward to.

I know this year's E3 will be incredible. We have the full unveiling of the Wii U (price, launch games, possible release date, Nintendo Network details). And I'm very optimistic to see what Microsoft may show (all the rumors point to Xbox 720). I really hope they tone down the "crazy kids playing Kinect" nonsense, it was getting creepy. Sony has tons of new Vita games and apps to show, and they already said they aren't showing the PS4 anytime soon.

'11 was fine for me too...but this year will be even better. Wii U games from Nintendo, including Pikmin 3. More 3DS announcements...I'm still hoping that Tri G will be announced here as well.

So, just out of interest, has the thought ever occured to you that, since you're not that interested in Kinect, perhaps Microsoft's presentation isn't so much about being "terrible" as it is simply "not for you?"

I mean, I wasn't that interested in Microsoft's E3 '11 output either, but the numbers don't lie; Kinect is a product worth Microsoft's time.

It made up for their 2006 dreck.

You seriously held a grudge against Sony for five years, and they were only able to make up for it last year? On the basis of a conference that people like to pretend was worse than it actually was?

Ok.

I believe that's what he was saying. I don't think you have to say "in my opinion" or "as I believe" every time you post an opinion. It's just assumed, and rightly so.

I didn't really pay attention to Sony's other conferences until last year.

As for Microsoft, did you even watch their last two presentations? The Kinect stuff was presented badly, and they hardly had any major titles to show aside from "More Gears of War, more Call of Duty, exclusive map packs". The sales number don't lie, but a majority of them came from casual gamers, and they obviously don't care about E3 presentations.

Ah, that makes more sense. Thanks for clarifying

I'm not sure you entirely understand what E3 is about.

One of its functions is marketing - to promote the upcoming games and consoles, yes. But that's a relatively minor function in truth. The reason that E3 is industry + journalists is that its primary function is to provide the industry with guidance on the direction the major games companies are taking - to showcase what those companies consider important, and to conduct meetings (behind closed door meetings) with business partners and other stakeholders.

It's an industry event that is massively popular for gamers, because it has developed that secondary marketing function.

But make no bones about it: the reason Microsoft was so intent on showing off casual gaming and the Kinect because that is Microsoft's focus right now. It doesn't matter whether the casual gamers care about E3 or not, because in making the journalists and industry aware of Microsoft's plans, it's putting out its message for the next year to the people that count for this show (once again, that's not the public, that's the industry).

I understand that Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, etc. hold these conferences to making the industry aware of their plans, but that doesn't mean everyone has to put up with it. We as consumers are the ones that buy these games. If we don't like them, we don't have to buy them. Shouldn't consumers determine where the market is headed, instead of the companies shoving their ideas down our throats (metaphorically speaking)?

What? You do know what a trade fair is, right? This has nothing to do with "listening to the fans," and a trade fair isn't the time or place for that discussion.

By buying kinect is droves the industry is dictating the marketplace. You just may not like it. There's mo need for new ip's and what not this late in the gen where established franchises sell best. I would love to see Microsoft go the Sony route and flood the market with games, but I much prefer the few really quailty retail first party games a year like nintendo. They lax out the rest with third party support and xbla games.

WAT!

^Wait, when you say that, who exactly is buying them in droves? The People or the industry?

No. I actually pay attention when people talk, and pick out the most relevent parts of their discussion. Those two know a lot about the Industry, so their arguments tend to reveal a lot of things I never knew. Just looking at their most recent comments, I've learned about the fuction of Trade Fairs, for example.

Hey look an innocent topic about E3 turned into a debate about who is right between Tendo and WaltzElf! Shocker!

Waltz vs. Tendo in a fight to the death is nothing new, but to see two people disagreeing about them fighting? Bravo, for that is argumenception.

Though I do agree with Waltz about things not being funny anymore when they're taken out of context and juxtaposed with unrelated clips and/or images. Even though that happens a little bit in the Disney one, it's still far and away the funniest for being genuinely humorous on its own merit rather than being forced and distorted.

Also, I can see how a PS3 for $6 could be funny.
~and I would run out and buy one this very instant at that price~

well this is completely accurate, but it doesn't help when you make the same exact (insert word here)ception joke everyone has for the past year and a half. Still better than Giant Enemy Crab, which was never funny ever.
