In my case, at least, I gotta trust my instincts more, and always ignore the hype.
It's always a good idea to manage one's expectations. Reality is imperfect and very rarely lives up the lofty standards we impose upon it. I'm at the point where I approach everything with either withering skepticism or, at best, a guarded optimism.
Although, I have to admit, my "guarded optimism" for Persona 5 is dangerously close to being hype, but I keep reeling it back before it crosses that line.
Even "Guarded optimism" has a tendency to fail me - It always seems to turn into "putting on the blinders made of pure rage" instead of "looking for problems that might exist and gauging whether or not it is worth my time."
I always have to set a neutral before I can play any of the games I own, and as far as buying new ones, I just...I don't actually know if I have any sort of plan there. What I need most is to play what I got so I don't have to stress about new games. It's getting harder to keep up my excitement for new releases when I have hundreds of unplayed games sitting on my shelves. I think I'll just get a few games I know I'm supper excited for and will play right away, and I'll save the rest for when I can get to it.
@CanisWolfred That's what I plan on doing. Outside of 5 - 10 key releases I'm super excited about, I'm ignoring new games until I get my backlog under control.
Currently Playing: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (NS2); Corpse Factory (PC)
So after months and months of only being able to 'experience' No Man's Sky from the outside I finally get the game inserted into my PS4.. after ********5******** minutes of aimless wandering...
The game crashed. I'd upload the picture I took with my hilarious goof comment reporting the problem but IDK how to Internet.
But seriously beep this game and beep the incessant, moronic and mindless mob that went as far as calling people thieves for wanting a refund for this broken game.

I doubt I could get myself to hold to <10, but I think I could handle 10-15, and I already have the first quarter (January 1st-April 7th) mapped out with...5 games total, I think?
Shantae: Half-Genie Hero
Gravity Rush 2
The King of Fighters XIV
Tekken 7
Persona 5
Ugh...not sure what to do about the rest of the year...maybe I should just up the limit to 20? Or 16, and count Shantae as a late Xmas present...
Luckily, I already backed Yooka-Laylee. Hopefully I'll get the email about switching off from the Wii U version to the PS4, soon. So I don't have to include that one. And I'll just stick with the Wii U version of Zelda, I doubt the Switch'll provide much of an upgrade, there. Heck, I could technically get the PS3 version of Persona 5...if I was stupid.
@CanisWolfred Well, there's the very real possibility that BOTW will perform significantly better on the Switch (consider the laggy TGA footage of the Wii U version versus the smooth, lag-free footage of the Switch version on the Fallon show), whereas Persona 5 apparently runs very well on both the PS3 and PS4.
There's no reason to get a last gen version if you already own the next gen console, though. And Persona 5 on PS4 comes with a steelbook case in the U.S. <3
@Ralizah We'll see, but I think Nintendo would have to be an idiot to release something that's unplayable. Either the Wii U version will be scrapped, and I'll used it in 2020 when the Switch is on its way out and Nintendo's trading in their game-making license for Pachinko machines, since swindling is apparently what they're best at...or I'll just have to deal with a little bit of lag. I've certainly put up with worse in lesser games.
@CanisWolfred I doubt it'll be unplayable. Worst case scenario is that it'll probably slow down when things get hectic or lots of objects show up on screen at once, like the 3DS with Pokemon Sun and Moon. Nevertheless, there'll likely be a fairly significant performance difference between the two versions.
I would probably just opt for the Wii U version if the Switch wasn't a hybrid. I have no desire to invest in another ordinary home console. I remember how fun Wind Waker HD was on the GamePad, though, and being able to play this anywhere has me excited.

Well, I have no intention of getting the Switch before November of 2019, when I can readily determine whether or not Nintendo has learned its lessons and released a worthwhile platform that won't be bereft with frequent release droughts. At this point, it's been less than favorable. I like Zelda, but that's not enough anymore. Not after the debacle that was the entirety of the Wii U, the gimmick machine that was the Wii that preceded it, and the slow start that nearly crashed & burned before taking off in the form of the 3DS. It's just not worth it to me anymore.
@CanisWolfred Probably not a bad move, given Nintendo's recent history. Also, it'll more than likely getting a price cut at some point and/or hardware revisions that fix obvious problems with the original design.

Thank you for reminding me that I still need to get Ratchet & Clank someday, and Titanfall 2, and maybe FFXV someday. If they end up delaying Days Done, to 2018, I'd actually be fine with that, if it isn't a 2018 game to begin with. Kinda glad I'm not really into GOW, and I'm not a big Spiderman fan, so I can skip that game as well without feeling guilty. Then maybe, if the PS4 doesn't get anything else for the remainder of 2017, I can play and finish all the games I still want to play.
@Dezzy I love analogies for all kind of things, and that 'steak and chips' one for Uncharted 4 is absolutely brilliant, and so very, very true too.
I still prefer Uncharted 2 out of all five (yes, Golden Abyss does count!) however, the fourth and final outing felt like a love letter that was written after reflecting upon all those adventures over the years.
It is not without its flaws ('there might have been a little bit too much sauce'), but there's nothing quite like the Uncharted series. After The Last of Us Part II, I do hope Naughty Dog move onto new pastures though.
I thought Uncharted 2 had the best pacing. Then Uncharted 3 had the best set-pieces.
The reason I'd put Uncharted 4 slightly ahead of both is because I liked that the story was more serious and I love big explorable environments. So I love that they managed to stitch those into a linear adventure game like they did. The part set on the plains of Madagascar I thought was just completely perfect game design in every way.
@Peek-a-boo Seems appropriate. I don't really like steak except when it's particularly well-seasoned. Especially ones that aren't well-done.
Uncharted 3 was a pretty decent... steak... though. Less of the wonky climby, and more of the runny and explodey, with about the same amount of shooty.
I need to grab DOOM at some point. And Ratchet and Clank. And Dark Souls 3, I guess.
@Dezzy Funnily enough, I really liked the first Uncharted for its sense of place, given that it was all set on one island. I remember there being a point about two thirds of the way through the game where you could see the other side of the island where your journey first begun.
For me, those moments are an absolute joy.
I was a little bit disappointed that Uncharted 2 & 3 never had anything quite like that, mostly because they were both a globe-trotting adventure. Uncharted 4 however had entire levels where you could see your destination in the far distance - this was especially apparent in Madagascar.
Anyways, I have been playing Hitman today and whilst it is a great game with a well realised sense of place, I cannot help but feel overwhelmed by how big and busy it all is. I felt exhausted just trying to make my way through a tiny part of an enormous place (in Paris).
So I decide to play the new season of The Walking Dead, and that's even more exhausting!
Then I booted Star Wars Battlefront up and helped the rebels win against the empire.
Okay, just finished The Witcher 3. Absolutely brilliant game! Had I played it last year, then I'm sure it would've been my game of the year. I managed to save Ciri in the end, Skellige prospered under leadership of Cerys. Unfortunately I couldn't save the rest of Velen, as Nilfgaard apparently won the war, but I have no idea whether that could've been prevented or not. I'm going straight in the DLC, Hearts of Stone first, and I've heard there are new Gwent cards available in the DLC expansions, so I'm looking forward to that too. It's been a while since I acquired new cards. I guess that maybe one day I'll continue looting the remainder of the Skellige waters, but that's too time consuming to do now.
