Instead of spamming the Steam Sales thread for TF2, this thread can be used.
Team Fortress 2 is now free to play for everyone on PC/MAC! Just install Steam on your computer and download the game. http://store.steampowered.com/app/440/
Feel free to post your Steam ID and join the NL Steam community so we can add each other as friends :3
You've got an unhealthy obsession with My Little Ponies there, @XKhaoz3D. I suggest you go watch some He-Man or Thundercats.
Regarding free TF2, it's a bit of a swizz how everyone was talking about Steam developing and releasing a free game, and everyone was wondering what it was, and in the end they just made TF2 free.
I'm not complaining. It's a good game (which I suck at) and I didn't pay for it on it's own (I got it in the Orange Box), and the way they've been going with all the microtransactions (and opportune game tie-ins), I think it's good of Steam to do this.

I haven't currently got it installed, but if there was a big enough group of us, I might give it another go. Although my Internet speed isn't tops, I never had problems in TF2 like I did with Monster Hunter 3.
I used to absolutely love TF2 but have pretty much given up on it now. It's a fantastic game, but the constant changes and additions to the weapons have just got too much. It was alright when you just had just one alternative to each weapon, but they've added so many now that they keep massively unbalancing the game and having to release patches to try re-balance it.
Not to mention the number of times you get situations where players can do some unconsidered combination of moves which then cause servers to crash and go round doing so for fun.
And don't get me started on this "free to play" nonsense. Valve will make more money selling cosmetic virtual items to people than they ever did with game sales (some of the items on the store cost more than the game did to purchase stand along and people bought). I know nobody has to pay for the items, but many end up giving in to temptation.

This is awesome stuff. One of the best shooters games you can play, for sure. I always play it on my buddy's Steam, but now I can finally earn my own achievements and Saw some mofos in half. Already played this for most of the morning.
So what's everyone's favourite class, and who's your main? While Sniper will always be my main, Medic is my favourite as he's the only character I can relate to, since we're both German. Plus after 4 years of waiting, the "Meet The Medic" video was not only worth it, but shows why he's my favourite.

My favorite is the Pyro or Spy

Freaking awesome. I was looking at Spiral Knights and found out it's on Steam now. NOW, when I open steam, this game turns out to be free. Freaking awesome.
@mikero_ Do the training, pick one class and stick with it for a while, pick one map and stick with it for a while. Watch others in the same class as you and learn from them. It's very easy to get overwhelmed by this game as a newbie, but don't give up - it's worth sticking with!

Been playing TF2 a lot and yeah, it's wicked fun. FPSers aren't on the top of my list of "most-liked" genre unless it's mixed with another genre (Metroid Prime Trilogy and Borderlands for example). The character's lines are funny and I really like how cartoony it looks and how everything is chaotic (like Smash Bros, a huge favorite of mine).
As for purchasing items, I'm just going to play it without spending anything yet to get the hang of it and learn things. Invested about 7 hours into it so I'm off to a good start.
FPSs aren't one of my favourite genres either but I found this pretty fun. I liked playing as Pyro, Heavy, and Spy. Sneaking up on unsuspecting Snipers can be pretty satisfying! I joined the nintendolife group / my steam id is mikero... maybe a group game tomorrow if enough people want to.
