Barebones features asides, this is somehow even better than the beta!
For fans of the series, and those of whom followed the beta, like myself, Capcom openly conversed that the game was not only being released in time for the proper tournaments (which is fair enough in my opinion), but that the extra features will be gradually implemented over a period of time.
In other words, we get to play the game now, which is genuinely superb, or we could have had to wait until summer at the earliest when all the down-the-line features have been added whilst missing out all the professional tournaments.
I am definitely in the 'glad we have got it now' camp however, it is not to say that I disagree with the numerous complaints about the game in its current state, what with it being being quite hollow and sparse.
Even though Capcom told us that it is how it would be all along...
Splatoon once-upon-a-time had the same 'problem' as Street Fighter V, and yet they got through it all relatively unscathed. Splatoon was (and still is) a brilliant game despite the lack of content at the very beginning.
@Peek-a-boo: Ah OK, I'll take you up on that one. Splatoon is nothing like Street Fighter Alpha because:
A) The servers worked at launch. Kinda a massive thing in and within itself.
B) Is a new IP from a studio & publisher making a game in a genre that was alien to them. Mis-steps such as this were expected, as opposed to the most iconic fighting game series launching without the most basic fighting game mode- arcade mode.
C) Where I'm from at least, in the UK, Splatoon only cost £30, Street Fighter V costs £50.
D) It does not have a Season Pass.
E) Splatoon's single player mode is 4-5 hours (at least) as opposed to Street Fighter V's 2 hoursish and is not dependant on the servers, making it entirely possible to play the game in some form regardless of the state of the servers, as opposed to Steer Fighter V's single player 'campaign' that had its greatest challenge being kicked out due to the unstable servers rather than being kicked by the AI fighters who are jokes.
F) Splatoon did not use the things not available at launch to help sell the game before launch, Street Fighter V did.
G) Splatoon's post launch content was staggered in a way that provided near constant updates weekly or bi-weekly up to and beyond the big August update, and that was exactly as it was advertised. Street Fighter V has just packaged something together resembling a game and has promised the rest of the stuff not there will be there at some point. But when? Whenever Capcom are ready that's when, play the 'story mode' 100 times and we may give an update before the Summer.
Hope that helps you see the situation as it ultimately is!
Perhaps Splatoon wasn't the best example, but I just remember it being a game with a staggered output of maps, modes and other extra bits and bobs which I feel is similar-ish to Street Fighter V.
I think your argument shows something quite eye opening in that Splatoon was released on the eShop for £34.99 with reasonably frequent free updates.
Street Fighter V on the other hand is £49.99 on the PlayStation store and whilst the extra modes and the proper story mode will be free, the future roster has two methods of obtaining the characters:
a) Using the in-game currency and completing the daily bonuses and rewards.
b) Paying real money to buy an indivdual character or a set of them.
Two very different ways of keeping their respective player base going.
Of course, Street Fighter V has the allure of a global audience and several professional tournaments to help the series continue to remain both relevant and well known.
To be fair, as a big fan of the series, I am just pleased to play this game sooner than later. It's the best beat 'em up (since the fourth) as far as I am concerned!
@Peek-a-boo: I agree with a particular sentiment I saw with regards to the positive reviews that have happened, in that they will eventually be reflective of the game as the gameplay seems to be smooth and fun, and the issues of a lack of content and unstable servers will eventually be resolved. It's just that it's anyone's guess when exactly Street Fighter V will be an 8 or 9 out of 10 game worthy of a £50 price tag, next month? A few months? Towards the end of the year? Regardless, I'm not a 2D fighting game fan at all so all Capcom have done here is completely alienate me from buying the game by focusing on pro players rather than making it accessible and newcomer friendly. With Mortal Kombat XL and Pokken out soon and Season 1 of Killer Instinct being given away for 'free' recently with Gold on Xbox One SFV has just blown it for me, despite the quality it should eventually become.
@TheLastLugia: Over in the states, both Splatoon and Street Fighter 5 launched at the same price of $60 Nintendo of America sure does like to put things at full price.

A)The servers worked at launch. Kinda a massive thing in and within itself.
I got Street Fighter V on release at 12am & played online all that night until around 3-4pm that day, I believe the servers went offline for a few hour that night. The next day I was back on SFV online i got signed out about twice, so to say the online wasn't working at launch is just false. (I also unlocked some trophies which can only be unlocked by playing online)

Any new IP is to be expected to release in a bare bone state.
D) It does not have a Season Pass.
You don't need to buy that pass as every update & DLC is free.
F) Splatoon did not use the things not available at launch to help sell the game before launch, Street Fighter V did.
Nor did SFV as I knew what I was getting & not getting at launch.
Sorry but I will not be purchasing before June and probably not at full price. It was clearly launched unfinished. Even then I might not get it truth is I mainly like SF for the characters. Capcom is clearly prioritizing the pro scene.
Those backgrounds asides, Street Fighter V has the best character animations and visuals in any beat 'em up game yet! This game looks like a painting in motion!
Ooff, Street Fighter V has just completely bombed in the UK sales charts, having a near 80% drop from its so-so first week of sales. This is (or rather should be) a good thing, as it sends the message that incomplete 'patch it later' games are not acceptable, though knowing 'AAA' publishers and how they completely mis-read the market at every turn the message they'll get and rely to us is that fighting games are dead and screw us for wanting to have a fun, complete Street Fighter game at launch.
Kinda ironic that it was Capcom again who played a big part in damaging the reputation of survival horror games with Resident Evil 6, before telling us it was our fault that we didn't buy 2 copies of it each so it could reach its unrealistic sales expectations and now who knows when Resi 7 will be green lit for production.
As always with 'AAA' companies expect the worst so you won't be disappointed in future.
^The Resident Evil series will be back, 6 was Capcom's 2nd biggest selling game of all time and they are keeping up with remakes and spin offs. A break will do the main series some good any-hoot so they can figure out the balance between survival horror and AAA action game, if 7 was on the heels of 6 it would just keep the same flaws as it's predecessor.

And yet myself and many, many others are not disappointed with Street Fighter V though. It is breaking entrance records at the upcoming EVO competition too.
It's the best beat 'em up on the market (to play), and that is all it needs to be!

Except that you are failing to realize that it needs to sell two million units by the end of their fiscal year. If not, then its doom and gloom for the series.
Come to think of it, if Street Fighter no longer becomes the savior of Capcom, what can they do besides Monster Hunter?
@Socar: Camelot? I thought they made most, if not all of the mario tennis games?

Seems like I am the only person in this thread that is actually playing the game instead of grumbling about it!
Less than expected sales or not, as a lifelong fan of this series, Street Fighter V is as good as it gets. I can foresee the game selling well (albeit slowly) in the long run.

Where do you keep getting this 2 million sales figure from? You were saying how Fire Emblems needs to sell 2 million or else it's doomed too until you were asked if you were making up.
