As most of you know, Australia doesn't have a R18+ video game rating, which allows content which would normally be rated 18+ is able to be played under an MA15+ rating.

Currently, Australia has the chance to change the whole classification system, and as the only western country without an R18+ rating for video games, I urge the Aussie's of this site to answer the following surveys.

The first, is a quick one asking if you support an R18+ rating. You can find it here. The other, is a survey that is slightly longer and more important. You can find it here.

If I were an Aussie - killer accent included - I'd definitely help out, but I'm not. Sorry dude.

It's alright. I knew this wouldn't much on this site, as it is primarily Americans and Europeans.

I know, right? But with the current political 'climate' I think video games are the last thing on Labor's mind.
I just blame old big-nose

The Government is a very firm supporter of the R18+ rating.

It's the state Att-Gens that are the problem.

LOL XD

Anyway I think Australia's classification definitely needs a change. That way we can get more games I guess... o-o
Kinda off-topic but quick question, is the ESRB government based? Like the OFLC? Just something I wanted to know.

KingMike

No, the ESRB is not affiliated with the government. (although when the ESRB was formed, the feds said they'd create a ratings board if the industry didn't)
So it's not a system that can be enforced with legal threats.
(although most large chains will voluntarily enforce M ratings)

I don't think AO by itself is legally enforceable either, though almost all of the 24 games rated that have strong sexual content, which is restricted under obscenity laws. (barf-inducing excessive violence, though? Legal to sell.)

I don't think the ratings would change a thing. People will order them online, or let their older brother buy the game in a shop.
