I love Nintendo but this topic is about the next-gen debate which excludes Nintendo because it has not released any info yet to be part of this discussion.
The unveiling of the PS5 has pretty much cemented who has won the next-gen console wars and the systems havent even released yet.
Im very pleased that Sony has finally figured out its not about how powerful the raw power of a console is.
Nintendo figured that out many console generations ago, maybe during the N64 era but definitely for the GCN. Thats why Capcom jumped ship from one platform to another to bring the RE franchise to GCN due to no load screens necessary. In fact Capcom stated that they added the door opening cut-sequences for a split second just for visual cues for the player eventhough they where not necessary to mask any loading of data.
Sony has finally figure it out, that its not about raw horsepower but its all about efficiency. That is the holy grail of optical disc hardware electronics that compute data to translate something onto a screen. The fact that Sony has stated they found the right balance of next-gen horsepower that is efficient but doesnt easily overheat, could be a blessing for those that dont like humming sounds of air-cooling fans that sound like nuclear reactors coming from inside very-powerful hardware.
Here is the math equation: (Power + Efficiency + No Load Screens) = The Holy Grail in video gaming = PS5
Add to that math equation:
High Capacity Storage + High Fidelity 3D Audio + Ultra High Definition Graphics = The Holy Grail in video gaming = PS5
Add to that math equation:
The most advanced game controller ever made that is far more integrated with the visuals and the audio = The Holy Grail in video gaming (and then some) = PS5
Its good how M$ has continued trying to challenge Sony in the console wars because Sony has been kept on it's toes. The fact that M$ has been laying flat on its back on the canvas (from a technical KO) every console generation, is beside the point, at least M$ is being a tryhard who wants to aspire to be the giant behemoth in entertainment that Sony is.
Throughout all the past generations M$ has been kept on its knees, at best. Just look at all the hardware sales.
At one stage in the past, M$ was delusionally claiming it was aiming to get 1 billion users on board in a generation, yet cant even match 50% of Sony hardware sales. Nowadays M$ hides its hardware sales for a reason because its sales figures are laughable compared to Sony's.
M$ latest effort with the aesthetics of its next-gen hardware is so beautifully minimalistic in looks (ie. if you like bland and very uninspiring aesthetics) that it would easily confuse any mainstream consumer. Its next generation of hardware looks like a boring speaker box which speaks volumes of what M$ is and will always be. Boring.
On the other hand, Sony's next generation of hardware is distinctive and stands out from any hardware from any electronics manufacturer whether it be personal computers, servers, optical disc players etc.
Sony nailed it in every aspects for the coming next-gen. The look of the hardware is very easy to identify among the sea of electronics out there and speaks next-gen to the consumer. If a version of that hardware comes out that allows the changing of custom themed side-casing plates, that hardware could win so many tech awards it would be staggering. The color choice for the launch hardware is specifically designed to differentiate itself and make a next-gen statement for the launch, coupled with the full-force lineup of themed peripherals to compliment the system.
M$ next-gen hardware looks so confusing and bland to the consumer that it looks like its competing with Speaker Sound Systems.
M$ has recently been blown away and brought down to its knees by Sony and (in the competitive sense) the only option remaining for M$ is to release a budget-friendly scaled-down not-even-next-gen hardware version for child consumers (codenamed Lochart or whatever, assuming with Minecraft pre-installed) and sold at a very very low pricepoint.
Though my question is, will the packaging of the b-box (ie. budget box) have warning stickers for parents that state 'Caution this is not a system, its a loot box in disguise'?
Or 'Caution to all musicians, this is not a Speaker Amplifier'?
Or 'Warning the technology found in this box has been reported to be barely last-gen hardware'?
What do you think of M$'s bland & uninspiring-to-the-consumer aesthetics for next-gen hardware and has M$ shot itself in the foot by offering a barely-current-gen budget-box to compete with Sony's next-gen Digital Edition hardware?
I only want on Nintendo Switch the Definitive Editions of Skies of Arcadia Legends, Baiten Katos, Tales of Symphonia, Paper Mario: TTYD, Superstar Saga, Advanced Wars: Days of Ruin (with construct-a-map mode). Not asking for much.
@8ball
Actually PS5 looks much better than Xbox Series X in term of machine design and color scheme.
Xbox Series X maybe have more power than PS5 but the most important is games library, exclusives and physical distribution.
PS5 have candidate for physical limited edition like PS4 (LRG, SRG, eastsoftasia, etc).
Sony probably wishes that in the 7th generation of consoles that it was super easy to beat the Xbox 360 especially when the PS3 was struggling for the first half of it. LMAO
To this day the PS3 was Sony's weakest link in its console's history with a poor Third Party Dev Kit for something that was hard to develop for and launched a year later than the competition, yet in the end still managed to surpass the competition sales figures and manage to surpass 100 million units in sales. That speaks volumes.
I was wondering how many M$ consoles surpassed 100 million units in sales? None?
Now the emphasis is that the PS3 was Sony's weakest link yet it still managed to sell over 100 million. In fact every console generation by Sony has sold over 100 million units. Sony is the king no matter what, and now with the most amazingly efficient next-gen hardware coming out in a few months time, it will just strengthen its domination.
Yes, there are Xbots out there that continually raise the topic of 'console wars' or the next-gen XBX is more powerful, but in reality there is no war, because this is Sony's first console that has got it right in terms of the best-balanced hardware for the technology that is available out on the market.
Two of the best game engines on the market being Unreal Engine 5 and Decima are being optimized for PS5's advanced architecture. The R.A.G.E by Rockstar will also be optimized for PS5 architecture and GTA VI going out in 2023 will not have any in-game load screens, as the icing on the cake.
Do I need to draw a math equation what that means for the type of games that will be coming out on PS5?
Sony won the war a long time ago and the gamers have spoken by buying its consoles over M$ offerings because software talks and money walks.

Also Sony's literal weakest link in the console space is the PSTV, which was pretty much Sony's Virtual Boy.
I'm not going to engage in the rest of that fanboy **** in your comment I don't have enough passion for Sony or Microsoft consoles to really care past basic information. Give me a Sega or Nintendo any day!
The big two modern consoles are... kind of terrible in general. I mean, sure, they play games just fine, but I have a modest gaming PC and have seen ZERO reason to get a PS4/Xbox One, and the new ones are shaping up to be exactly the same. Only reason I have a PS4 now is because my sister didn't want it, and you never say no to free things like that.
My bad. I have read other reports of PS3 selling over 100M but it looks like that would have been shipped over 100M.
According to google search, here is the Top 8 consoles of all time.
I wonder if that list is manipulated in Bing search (or whatever its called)?
The bestselling consoles of all time:
PlayStation 2 β 155 million. The bestselling console of all time, by a landslide, is the PS2.
PlayStation 4 β 108 million. ...
PlayStation 1 β 102 million. ...
Nintendo Wii β 101 million. ...
PlayStation 3 β 86 million. ...
Xbox 360 β 85 million. ...
Nintendo Entertainment System β 61 million. ...
Nintendo Switch β 55 million

Usually when I see people make topics like this, they're more trying to convince them selves they're right. It's like you read something you didn't like and need to validate your own likes.
Pro tip, stop caring.
These are companies who make billions of dollars and owe you nothing. If you like something, great. Like it. Don't let other peoples opinions get you down. They're not at risk of "losing" just because some people don't like them.
"Console wars" are childish anyway. Makes you look bad.
"and the new ones (consoles) are shaping up to be exactly the same"
Actually that is so far off the mark, that was the whole point of this discussion. The PS5 is totally groundbreaking in its architecture that it needs to be paid more attention to. You need to look into what the experts are saying about all the parts inside it (and why Sony did not match the Terra-flops of the competition). Once you understand what the PS5 system is about you will appreciate what the next-gen from Sony will be offering us.
PC's where excluded from this conversation because they're not game consoles and you dont sit on your couch playing PC games and high-end PC systems cost 4x what the PS5 will cost and while we are on the topic you will see many PC gamers buying a PS5 in the next-gen because PC's dont have the ground-breaking architect found in the PS5.

John Carmack has said positive things for PS5 architecture. We all know that is a big statement, if its coming from a longtime Team PC developer, who is known for holding back his excitement for anything non-PC.
A big wig from Epic has stated the PS5 is a game changer in many ways.
I might not know what Im talking about (according to you) but I guess all the industry leaders that are speaking out must also not know what they are talking about (according to you).
Have a nice day. Enjoy your gaming but note that I dont mind if you whine you dont like or agree with my opinion, but I have just given you some facts from people who are industry leaders and you will still whine or state I dont know what Im talking about.

Yeah, it's remarkable that game consoles are starting to catch up to PCs by using a processor my laptop uses... yawns Keep trying to convince your self that these companies care about you to the point you have to defend them against... who? No one cares. I'm sorry you feel like we do care.
@BenRK
Actually, i prefer to have PS5 than PC.
I need a machine just insert the disc and play.
And PS5 machine design looks stylish in White and Black color scheme.
Don't care with PC power.
I will buy PS5 for Exclusives 1st party and 3rd party games.
And of course, Kids games until Teen games only. π
@8ball
BTW, will you consider PS5 at Day launch or wait until there is a Revision model or Slim model ?
