Topic: PS3 Price Slashed to €249 or $249

Coming from a a gamer who owns and enjoys all the consoles on the market. I find that the PS3 is the best value on the market. There is a far better range of exclusives titles that cover multiple gaming types and the games are cheap too. I love my 360, but my PS3 is the one that gets played the most. Blu-ray is the ultimate!

Good, less work for me to get a PS3 now.

No, I can only afford the PS3 or the Vita. And I've actually ruled out the Vita for now. Now it's between PS3 and Nintendo (i.e. not selling my Wii, buying a Wii U, keeping up with 3DS games).

I'm only going to comment on JRPGs, but if you like that genre even a little bit, the PS3 is a necessity.

@Oddy It's really hard to say between a PS3 and a Vita, as we've not yet played a Vita. With everything we've got on the Vita currently, it's shaping up really nicely, and some features I've stumbled upon today just add to the mix - check Vitagamr in the upcoming days for this info.

PS3 is a fantastic, well-rounded console with diverse games that cover nearly every spectrum of genres. Wii U just really can't even be commented on at the moment as we know practically nothing of it, and the 3DS only has a handful of games coming in the next year, so that won't kill your wallet too terribly - especially if your like me and will be playing my 20 free games for the next year.

I'd say snag a PS3 now, and while your catching up on the massive amounts of fantastic titles on the cheap, you'll have time to save up until Vita has launched and gained a few games in its library. You'll most likely want a PS3 if you invest in Vita, as the paired system structure they are implementing is shaping up to be very interesting indeed, no to mention being able to play games on your PS3 and then pick them up later, exactly where you left off, on your Vita.

@WaltzElf While that's not my genre of choice I looked up some games and they sound great, but I won't be purchasing the system for any one genre regardless of how much I like it. Any JRPGs you care to recommend?

@Slapshot The technology behind the Vita is fantastic and I was excited for most of the games in the Vita trailers thread, but right now I've decided going with the home console with an amazing library of games already is much safer and makes more sense for me right now, especially since I love my 3DS and am satisfied with it. I may get one down the line but for now it's PS3.

And I know Wii U is still a wildcard, though it seems like it could offer the best of both worlds, in a way. Thing is, I'm mainly getting a PS3 for the likes of Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, and inFAMOUS (I would get Killzone if it wasn't M), which are all Sony-exclusive franchises. I can't have the Sony HD goodness I want and the Nintendo HD goodness I want unless I get both systems, which isn't happening in the foreseeable future. If the 3DS can provide enough Ninty content for me (Ambassador games will be awesome, I agree, and I'm sure I can snag 3D Land and MK7 for Christmas) then maybe PS3 is the better choice, but you're right, it's hard with the lack of Wii U details at present.

The PS3 is really tempting and sort of seems like the best option, but to get it I'll probably have to sell my Wii. Though I normally wouldn't mind due to the premature death of games for the console, if I ever get a Wii U, which I hope to someday for Smash Bros., I don't want to be starting completely over without Wii games, accessories, and my VC/WiiWare (assuming you can transfer them to Wii U). One option for me is to let go of the downloads (which is much easier to swallow given Steam and BIT.TRIP SAGA for 3DS) and hold onto accessories and games just in case. I'll probably get enough money for a PS3 that way. I feel that Skyward Sword would make an excellent swan song for the system, though, and would regret not being able to play it if I sold my Wii before it hit. If I'm selling, I would probably use a GameFly free trial to play through it first.

So, say I get a PS3 and sell my Wii and/or games and accessories if need be (thanks for bearing with me). Then I need to figure out when/how to get it. Do I take advantage of the $300 360 gig w/ inFAMOUS 2 bundle (I've played the demo countless times at Target and absolutely adore it) while it's available, wait for some great Christmas deal/use Christmas money to buy the 160 gig, or try to hold out for another price drop, or what? Though I'd rather not share how much money I have, it's basically enough to get a $250 model right now.

Sure. Atelier Rorona, Ar Tonelico Qoga, White Knight Chronicles 2 (comes with 1), Final Fantasy XIII, Star Ocean The Last Hope International.

PS3 is an extremely good value now. The library of exclusive games blows the 360 out of the water; which is ironic, cause a few years ago it was the opposite.

Sony's exclusive games look amazing, and I'm especially wanting to get some LBP action. Hopefully I can get one in a few months when I save up enough money... (but I just bought a 3DS and need to acquire games for that)

I really hope Microsoft gets rid of the 4GB Xbox 360, cause that is a ridiculously tiny amount of storage space. Quite a few 360 games require a hard drive, meaning people who get that model must pay more money. The 4GB model is a rip-off (just like the old Arcade model that had 0 storage space).

That was the largest reason for me buying one.

It's always nice to hear fanboys talk about how superior their console is, and don't have a clue what is going on "outside"
their fav brand...haha...lmpo...Believe it or not...XBox will eventually sell even more consoles than Wii. And therefore is the

In the United States, maybe.... Once it gets 10 million extra consoles sold. But you must know that there are other countries in the world than the one you live in and the U.S. as well.

1.5 million Xboxes sold in Japan whereas Wii has sold 11 million+ and the PS3 with 5 million+.

Xbox, worldwide, is also still behind Nintendo by 30 million+ consoles as well.

If it does sell more than the Wii, I will be incredibly surprised.

@Slapshot Thankfully you haven't answered yet because I gave it some though and decided I'm sticking with Nintendo for now. Someday I hope to own a PS3 but I think I'm good without it for a while.

@Oddy Sorry for the late response. After work I had to travel from Alabama over to Louisiana for the Southern National Amateur Disc Golf Championships I'm participating in this weekend. But, I understand your conclusion completely. I sold off my first Wii with a lot of VC/WiiWare games on it, and you won't want to repay for them on the Wii you'll eventually buy again down the road - take my advice on that. Don't sell your Wii to get a PS3, instead, stick to your conclusion and wait until you can get a PS3 (Christmas maybe?) and you'll have a blast and still have your Wii for Skyward Sword too. Good decision my friend! Never sell off a Nintendo system that you'll loose games you enjoy playing on, you'll regret it down the road.

@GreatManaTree Please take your 'fanboy' name calling elsewhere. What games are best on any console is always a persons personal preference and if it's the 360 for yourself, that is fantastic, but not everyone will agree with you - just like you don't agree that it's the PS3. Leave the 'fanboy' calls out of here please. And for the record, I publish reviews and own all the current systems, so you can take that for whatever it's worth to you. Two of my previous 360 reviews were even published in an online magazine recently: Limbo and Trials HD, and they can be found here if your interested to see how much I'm a fanboy I truly am, since I think that the PS3 is currently the top home console on the market makes me a fanboy. Sorry for the irritated reply, but first it was the hardcore gamer hate (directed at us that grew up on Atari 3600/NES and actually are) and now the fanboy crap, I tire of it being a constantly reoccurring issue.

@Slapshot Just to be clear I wasn't expecting to get a response any earlier--I just would've felt bad if you had already took all that time to reply without knowing I had already made my decision.

I just feel like if I jump ship now I might never play a console Mario game again, and that's a pretty freaky thing for me, lol. While PS3 is obviously a phenomenal system it seems like if I hold out the deals can only get better and I can only save up more money, so maybe in the future I'll be able to enjoy the system without missing out on Nintendo, which is what you said.

The main thing that helped me decide was seeing, for example, Red Steel 2 on Amazon and wanting it very badly, and thinking I couldn't get it or anything else I wanted for Nintendo systems if I spent all my cash on a PS3. So I decided right now doesn't make the most since for me to be getting a new console.

I must be hated by obviously "phenomenal" systems

@Oddy Lol, it's no biggie. I recently did the same thing and snagged Red Steel 2, Baroque and a few other Wii games I wouldn't have paid full price for too. That is the benefit of having a system at the end of its lifetime.
