According to the April sales figures from the NPD Group, the Playstation 3 console was beaten out by the Playstation 2 console in terms of overall sales for the month. In fact below is how the console stacked up:

1. DSi
2. Wii
3. DS
4. Xbox 360
5. Playstation 2
6. Playstation 3
7. PSP

Man I wish Sony could get that price down and get some really great games rolling to get the sales of the PS3 and PSP up. Anyone want to venture a guess what Sony will drop the price to at E3? I'm going with $299.99.

Are these American sales figures?

I think PS3 will eventually become a hit. The PS3 is an expensive bargain, but it's not going do well in this kind of downward spiral economy. Luckily the PS2 still generates solid sales and has to be cheap to make at this point.

I'm curious if Nintendo is going to announce an HD Wii soon? They were so stupid not to make the Wii HD in the first place.

I agree on the HD comment wholeheartedly. As for Sony, I do hope they can get the PSP and PS3 selling better. Two great game machines that are not realizing their full potential, if you ask me.

Few people actually care about having "ZOMG! Teh best grafix EVAR!!!".

I would of rather bought a Wii with HD built in it than have Wii Sports bundled with it. Geez, even a handful of original Xbox games did HD!

I agree Sony makes quality stuff. I prefer them as an advisory over Microsoft.

Since I bought the HDTV, I want all my stuff in HD. I'm the ultimate graphics junkie. I can admit it.

Have you seen the HD numbers lately, not to mention graphics are the main reason we keep moving up each console generation. It's always the first thing talked about when a new game system is coming out, as far as how much better the graphics are.

It would be great if Sony did actually drop the price of the PS3 at E3 but I'm not sure they are willing to do that just yet. I read in an article that Sony is losing an estimated $40 on every PS3 console sold. That really sucks for Sony. I would really like for them to get back in the game. I just hope they got some fancy tricks up their sleeve at E3!

I think they'll definitely drop it even though it's going to cost them more money because they desperately need to climb back into this console race, as they are falling further behind all the time. It's obvious the other two console makers aren't backing down one bit, so they know they're going to have to do something drastic to make any type of change in their current position.

Losing $40 per console isn't the worst of their worries if the consoles just aren't selling. Better to lose over $100 per console if that's what it takes because at least you then have a user who will be buying controllers, games, etc. You need that initial sale to make someone a customer, and it's worth whatever it takes.

I'm surprised the PSP is behind the PS3, actually. I guess I'm just used to seeing figures from Japan, where it's kicking all kinds of butt, last I heard.

Why would you need Wii with HD? I'd prefer a wii with a bit more RAM...

Sony are struggling across the board, TVs, music players, games consoles etc. With the Japanese economy in a pretty awful state, Sony need to turn things around or they could be in trouble. Nintendo have shown it's not impossible, and in fact I think they will at least achieve parity with Nintendo in the next generation.

ps2 is at the perfect price point to give to a 9 year old or something who needs a console for their playroom. it also has a beast of a back catalog that you can pick up for cheap. that's why it keeps selling.

I wonder if this has ever happened before where the previous generation console outsold the current generation console?

I think it doesn't sell well is because it's to expensive, and those mean Xbox fanboys bashing it all the time.

If bashing had that much of an impact, the Wii wouldn't be selling either. I don't think that has much impact on sales.

I don't care what kind of economy we have, shelling out 5-6 hundred dollars is way too much for your average gamer. That's why Nintendo is dominating. They did it right by keeping the prices reasonable. I am tempted to get an X-box 360 just because I hear so many great things about it.

I'd like to see Sony pony up and do something to get the ball rolling in their direction. It's good for everybody when we have competition. Right now it's a slaughter with the X-box and Sony bringing knifes to a Wii gun fight!

More competition = better games? I'd like to think so.
