Yep, my PSone Classics get replayed a dang good bit. PSN games to me have very short lived appeal. Not all of them, but most. PSN+ though is more than just a few Free games as well. Though we dont know all the specs on it yet. The ability to initiate cross game chat, Betas Access wich Im all about as most will be FPS Shooters and Im betting Uncharted 3 for sure. Like everything it wont be for everyone, but to me its just a dang good deal. I dont see a fault in it. I dont see how they could justify a $50 a yr price and give you more than a handful of PSN/PSone Classics in a yrs time. For trophy whore they will eat this up Access to trophies without a purchase. Im betting we will see Fat Princess and the 2D online shooter I cant remember the name of at the moment as a given pretty quick wich will be awesome as I passed on both.

Oh, and if I get a little pissy guys as I try not too. But if I do I have to apologize in advance. I live 5 miles from the Gulf of Mexico and work on the water (literally). This whole oil spill is finally coming in full force and things are getting pretty dang crazy. Goverment is literally shutting down dang near all the people efforts to stop it from hitting here and its very chaotic. There are antiBP and Government protest on the weekends and all. People are really frustrated at the lack of equipment and our city is getting no response at all for any help with necessary equipment to help out. So people are literally taking it in there own hands, and some have found out that the oil is extrememly toxic, and the fumes will indeed kill you very quickly. When we get North Winds it will dang near make you puke from the smell of dead sealife. Its a mess here.
Not trying to get sympathy or anything, just a heads up.
Coming home and playing games and chilling is literally a drug right now lol.
Trailer for Level 5 / Studio Ghibli's The Another World. This looks so impressive. You can hardly tell when it switches from in-game animation to cut scenes. Ghibli needs to make games more often, and this needs a worldwide release.

Visually it looks like a Miyazaki cartoon, and for a moment I thought it might have the story of one too. Sadly it appears to be just some Dragon Quest/Pokemon style game with real-time action. Not my thing in the slightest. I do hope Ghibli makes more games, but I hope the next one is an adventure game, or at least an RPG that focuses on the story more.
Err... there's no indication whatsoever that real-time combat and story cannot co-exist in peace and harmony. What are you basing this assumption on? I got the Pokemon vibe from the way they stand before their little creatures, too, but I'm not sure if you actually capture or collect these creatures. Ghibli is doing the cut scenes on their own, and it looks like there'll be quite a few of them.

I was basing it on the Dragon Quest/Pokemon vibe, both of which never really had stories that stood out to me. I was really hoping they'd make a story that emulated Miyazaki's works the way the visuals do. Sadly, it seems rather unlikely. Even if it does have a good story, the combat looks dull and a game of that style doesn't focus nearly enough on the story to make up for it. It just doesn't seem like something that'll appeal to me.
Well, I can understand saying the combat looks dull, though I think it looks fine to me, but Dragon Quest and Pokemon have boring stories because they are done by game studios, studios that make games, not movies. I don't think Ghibli's work will be diluted by the mere proximity of simple combat. They hang their hats on making good stories. I don't know if they have any involvement actually writing it, but even a simple story can be marvelous if brought to life by the right hands. I have only seen maybe four of their movies, but they've all been pretty simple adventure stories, so I actually think this kind of game is perfectly suited, myself.

The problem isn't the writing, it's the pacing. Those kind of games tend to focus more on exploration and combat, inserting large gaps between story segments. I prefer a game story when it's the focus of the game, and the gameplay is simply there to suppliment the story and keep the player engaged, such as with Final Fantasy X and Grandia. Still, I guess it is too early to tell, especially with only one trailer. I just hope it isn't like some of Level 5's other games, which have decent stories with terrible pacing.
Ah, well, I can see the trend there, but it's not that the two ideas are incompatible. There may be a trend, but the type of combat in no way dictates the kind of pacing or story the game has. Seems easy enough to mix and match. And the fact that it appears to be real-time distinguishes from both Dragon Quest and Pokemon, anyway.
I would assume Level 5 is tailoring the game to Ghibli's talents. They may not make perfect games, but I personally think they're good enough to know better than to squander such an opportunity, forcing the player to grind or explore too much before arriving at the next point in the story, which is what the Ghibli fans will be getting the game for.
But yea, like you said, too early to tell. My fingers remain firmly crossed, as difficult as this makes typing.
