Every time I hear about whatever gamers are up to in the news, it's never anything good. Sarkeesian, GamerGate, SWAT, it's always guilt that makes me feel bad. Even the littlest things put me in a bad mood.
I wish games could be about fun. What ever happened to "all that matters is that we had fun?" What ever happened to innocent fun? No one ever calls the SWAT team over a game of Mario 3D or LBP, and Mariokart never starts an internet revolution, as rage inducing as it is. Capcom places Nintendo content into their newest Monster Hunter game, people are pissed and complain that it's an unnecessary shoehorn. Can I please just enjoy a funny cameo that's completely optional and changes nothing from the overall experience?
Why can't people be happy and play video games at the same time?

People are happy playing video games, but many gaming enthusiasts actually care about the industry and scene itself. When a significant portion of journalism in relation to games media is shown to be horribly corrupt, people want to deal with it. When people decry gaming as 'misogynistic' while stealing video content and not doing their research, people are going to speak out about it. No one is saying you cant enjoy something - just don't expect everyone else to shut up because they don't agree with you.
If no one spoke up about games then the worst kinds of practices would be implemented into them, and the amount of fun and diversity in the medium would decline. If you personally don't want to focus on that stuff then don't - ignorance is bliss after all.
because fun games are all about accessible fun and "real gamers" hate accessible stuff because casual players have no rights

So I game that just requires a bit of effort in order to work out how to play it cannot be fun ?
That is like saying there is no point in ever learning to ride a bicycle when you can just use stabilizers / training wheels or a tricycle. Or learning to read when someone else can just read to you. Or learning to cook when you can just buy stuff that is already made and put it into a microwave.
Anything worth doing requires a bit of effort to start with.
(Stuff where you play with people in the same room where there is no time for anybody to learn it really is an exception).
Most people are simply having fun, it is the vocal minority that tries to ruin it for everyone else, and those people seem to frequent the internet. I still play games just for fun, I don't care how other people see the games I play.

i find gaming the only reason for my existence. im not interested in anything else. i was born playing games and thats how im going to die. i quit rapping and removed myself from that element, while the whole time i was into gaming. im much happier now that ive trimmed the fat. the only other thing that i invest as much time into gaming is having stunningly good looks.

And yes, he is (usually) always right, and he is (almost) the sexiest gamer out there (not counting me) ;)
The people that bash every single thing in video games and get into pointless arguments over which console is better remind me of the group of wrestling fans who complain about every single thing that happens now. It's no longer about having fun, we have to compare something to what came out in the past. Smash Bros 4 can't stand on its own, it has to be compared to Melee. Modern Wrestling can't stand on its own merits, it always has to be compared to the Attitude era.
My point is that I am rather sickened by the sheer amount of cynicism people have towards media. It's no longer about sitting back and enjoying a game, watching a wrestling match on the TV, or watching a popcorn movie. We all have to be reminded by some pompus elite that our tastes are bad, the creators of this content are all idiots, and they could do a better job.
Of course, if they could do a better job, then why aren't they making Smash 4, running the WWE, or making movies that make tons of money?
People like to have fun, that's why Call of Duty sells millions of copies each year. But rather then accepting that, people have to run out in droves and bash COD players. COD players are the reason why modern FPS shooters are bad. Of course, what they don't realize is that maybe that's what people want, because they find it fun.
But what really got me, was the bashing Smash Bros 4 got. Every time Sakurai announced or showed off anything, there was a legion of annoying fanboys who bashed every thing. Ridley and King K. Rool aren't in the game? Well, I'll just pout on the internet and pretend the other newcomers don't deserve my time! Wii Fit Trainer? Duck Hunt Dog? What horrible choices! Gameplay is not like Melee? Well, it is ruined and only for casuals!
I understand people have legitimate gripes about things. I thought Iron Man 3 sucked, I thought Brawl ruined characters like Mario and Zelda, and there have been times where I do something else while a segment is on Raw that I don't care to watch. But I don't sit on the internet calling people idiots for liking something I don't like, nor do I nitpick at things.
If I don't like it, I turn off the screen or go do something else. Many people loved A Link Between Worlds, I thought it was junk. I sold it off and got something else. Certain people thought it was fun, I thought it was a boring game.
It's all about having fun. Not everyone is going to like the things you like. But rather then wasting their time bashing everything, maybe these people should sit back and enjoy something for what is is.
I know I'm pointing out the obvious, but it's hard to please everyone. Like others have said, people tend to bash about the small little things which is pretty dumb imo. As for me, games are always about fun.
That's one of the stupidest question i've ever heard. Like, wow, really. Games were always about fun and always will be. If someone cannot enjoy a game, then the fault is at that person's approach, not the game's.
Sure, people like to win in games and when they lose they get pissed and diss other players but if that makes you angry, just stop playing online. There are plenty single player games where you can enjoy the storyline and have fun! So, happy gaming!

Unfortunately, hardcore fans of anything tend to have a hardcore interest in everything gaming beyond just...well...playing games and enthusiasts of nerdy stuff frequently attracting the worst of humanity. Combine that with how stupid gaming journalists can be, it's not surprising everything's gone crazy on the internet. It would be ok to have discussions on these type of things, but it's been proven that no one who cares about this stuff cares to have actual discussions, so it's as meaningless as talking about religion or politics online. It'll all just end horribly. Combine that with Twitter, it's no wonder the internet went full-on crazy.
It gets even worse when you consider how easily a single dude on the internet can ruin SO MANY THINGS. Seriously, it is a horrible time to be known in gaming on the internet.
Even on here, which is...at least more often than not, sane, I frequently get annoyed whenever I discuss anything Nintendo beyond individual game threads. Because it quickly becomes some "NINTENDO IS FLAWLESS" vs. "NINTENDO BETRAYED ME, THEY'RE GONNA DIE" bs that it's not worth it to deal with blind nonsensical morons. But thankfully I took a (usually) calm wait and see approach, and was the only one remotely correct about Wii U.
That's really my thoughts on this. There's enough things wrong in gaming to discuss it, but no one actually wants to, so it's not worth your time to care about drama (it frequently isn't regardless). So don't.
