Keeping in mind that this is a reader poll, not a consumer survey, so the market doesn't really reflect those results other than Dragon Quest and Pokemon both being in the top 3.
So Anakin kneels before Monster Mash and pledges his loyalty to the graveyard smash.
I guess it's all about number of entries, RPG series with just a few entries(and hardly any remasters/remakes) have very little chance.
Nah it's a reader poll for favorite JRPG series. Given that, it's not surprising that Final Fantasy placed so high, even though a FF game hasn't sold great in Japan since FFX 15 years ago.
That might also explain why main series SMT placed higher than Persona, Pokemon placed lower than you would imagine, being by far the most popular JRPG series worldwide, and Yokai Watch didn't place at all. Famitsu readership is a specific audience.

I didn't mean the order of the games on the list, just that all the series on it have many entries accross different generations. So series with just a few entries accross one or two generations and no remakes or spinoffs had no chance to reach the list.
There have been 4 Persona games, only two of which were actually popular and were released in the same generation, and that made the top 10 list.
There have been many more Persona games, there were 3 on PS1(there are two Persona 2 games), two and a half(P3:FES) on PS2, the 3(4 in Japan) PSP ports/remasters, P4 & Dancing All Night on Vita, Persona Q on 3DS and two Persona fighting games on PS3&360 . Plus it also has several other mobile games in Japan.
were only Jrpgs allowed?
the only rpg games i really like are the elder scrolls. morrowind is kinda hard to play these days because of archaic fighting etc. but skyrim...damn that game is amazing!
i'm shocked that Fire Emblem isn't there at all seeing how its extremely popular in Japan only.
Maybe they didn't want to include TRPGs. Oh well. At least they can be included in the Top 10 TRPGs list.
"I'll take a potato chip... AND EAT IT!"
Light Yagami, Death Note
"Ah, the Breakfast Club soundtrack! I can't wait 'til I'm old enough to feel ways about stuff!"
Phillip J. Fry, Futurama

Japan only? It sells pretty well elsewhere too, most games in the series have sold more copies in North America. Outside of Japan, it doesn't really sell as badly as most people think.

EDIT: oh i overlooked that it is from famitsu
The only western RPG that sold more than 4 copies in Japan was the Witcher 3 (no idea why). The rest completely tank. Japan doesn't buy western games in general. Except Minecraft.
