Its weird, I put in nearly 100 hours on Fallout 3 and never had one bug in that whole time, and that's the honest truth.
I can echo that same experience. However, I just started re-visiting Oblivion and have experienced 2 different lockups that required a console reboot.
I encountered a load of bugs in the 360 version, but, for the most part, nothing that it wasn't easy to overlook. I did find one game breaking bug though. I was walking around the Wasteland at night, and saw this bright light streaming down from the sky to the ground, off in the distance. I happened to know that there's a random alien encounter in the game, and I assumed it was that...so I walked toward the light. It took me a long time to get there (it was way off), but as I did, it got bigger and bigger. Eventually I got there and realized it was just a graphical glitch that was filling the screen as I approached it. When I turned away all of the graphical elements in the game were coming apart, with just white light behind them. It got to the point where the game was literally unplayable (the game sounds etc. continued, but my controller would do nothing) and I had to reboot.
That was the only game breaking one I encountered. Others ranged from silly little quirky things to major scripted events that didn't happen when they were supposed to. Still...great game.
