Topic: Castlevania Fan Thread

A thread to talk about everything Castlevania, from the games to the music to the characters to your personal experiences and everything in between.

As for me, I haven't been playing the Castlevania games for very long. The first one I played was the first one but I only played a little bit of it. I tried some of the others but I didn't really start playing until last year when Castlevania Rebirth came out. After that I download some of the others on the VC. My most recent Castlevania game is Symphony of the Night which is also my first Metriodvania. I haven't tried any of the 3D games but I hear they're not as good as the rest. My personal favorite Castlevania is Super Castlevania IV followed by Rondo of Blood. It's already become one of my favorite video game series.

Someday I will finally get Order of Ecclesia.

3D Castlevania didn't do it for me either. My favorite is symphony of the night - that stands out as one of the highlights of my gaming experiences - and it's nice not dying when you fall off the screen. I'm personally excited that Harmony of Despair is heading to PSN too I'll definitely be getting that.

Yep my favorite Castlevanias have been the Metroidvania style games like SotN and Aria/Dawn of Sarrows. I really didnt care for the NES one simply cause when I played them I was younger and they were hard for me at the time so I never got to far in them.

As for songs I posted my favorite Castlevania tracks in this thread a few months back and right now I am just to lazy to look them up again and repost them.

Like Cheetah I also got into Castlevania after playing Rebirth on Wiiware, which I found to be excellant. Rebirth is now my second favourite Castlvania after Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles on the PSP. That game has everything; the classic Castlevania gameplay, beautiful sound and graphics, I keep coming back for more. Naturally, I also like Rondo of Blood, the game CDXC is based on, and I also like the NES Castlevanias and Castlevania 4, but not to the same extent. Metroidvania games like SotN an Aria/Dawn of Sorrows unfortunately don't hook me in the same way. I would love to see a new Castlevania on the 3DS in the classic style, like CDXC.

I wish they'd hurry up and announce a new Castlevania for 3DS or something. Seems like it's been a while since the last game. I mean of the side scrolling 2-D type. Those are always the best.

Almost a year later, and I still love the crap out of Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. I'm planning on being a Castlevania whore and buying it AGAIN on PS3 later this summer.

I'm not addicted to the game, but I still play enough every once in a while because wanting to get those damn rare items keeps me playing!

Any of you guys play Lord of Shadows? I am wondering how that game is story wise I still have yet to play it.

you mean the new 3D one where since they realize they'll never make 3D Castlevania good they just ripped-off other, better games to make a maybe above average game?

Somebody needs to ask Konami why Bloodlines isn't on the Wii VC yet?
It's probably the last Castlevania that could possibly end up on the shop. A great one too!
Now If Belmont's revenge were to end up on 3DS VC I'd be giddy as a school girl.

I never liked the games on the NES and SNES. I only like the series for their "metroidvanias". I should get back to Symphony of the Night, I'll have to hook my Xbox up just for that.

I haven't played SOTN in over a week. When I get home tonight I'm going to have to make some more progress in it.

No kidding, I think it's one of the best games in the series, up there with IV and Rondo of Blood (which I'm still surprised we got).
By the way, anybody else disappointed by Lords of Shadow?

Yeah I'd love to see that one of the 3DS VC. It has some of the best music on the original Gameboy.

Amazing what Konami could pull off on the Original Gameboy.
That game will always be one of my all time favorites!

I think I'll forever stick to my beliefs that Rondo of Blood is the best Castlevania game. The tunes are perfect, the difficulty and gameplay; set to the exact right tune.

I still really want to try one of the 3D exploration-type Castlevania games, though. Maybe I'll buy Lament of Innocence one of these days. Anyone got any opinions on that game or any of the PS2 Castlevanias in general? (Curse of Darkness doesn't honestly look too special, so I don't think I'm too interested in that one, lol).

I'm not a huge fan of the 3D Castlevanias. Honestly though I thought the N64 ones were better than the PS2 games.
It's probably just because it was the first 3D games in the series. Alot of people hate on them but it was a decent effort by Konami. If I had to choose between the PS2 games I'd go with Lament of Innocense.
Curse of Darkness had worse music and the difficulty was irritating. Both PS2 games have one common flaw.
The areas were bland and repetitive. Every room looked the same. At least the N64 Castlevanias had more variety in that aspect.
