I am looking to buy an arcade cabinet and I have been looking at different options. I would really like to do a DIY arcade cabinet with a Raspberry Pi. However, I don't have the tools or the knowledge to pull off a quality built arcade cabinet.

So if there are any arcade systems that anyone knows about that are either programmable or maybe just a downright good arcade system with some prebuilt games, please feel free to comment on the thread

@Chunkboi79 Considering you mentioning a Raspberry Pi, I'm gonna assume that you're not looking at something that's going to seriously set you back money-wise, so the Polycade, which is pretty much the bees knees of home arcade cabinets, is probably not what you're looking for, but just in case I'm wrong, I'll leave a link and some videos of it below:
https://polycade.com/products/polycade-home

As you can see from the videos, the cool thing about the Polycade is, because it's basically a PC in an arcade cabinet disguise, that it doesn't only play retro games, but also current gen ones, so it's an all-in-one machine, and it has both Steam and a host of emulators included. Pricey, yes, but definitely worth it for the true fan with some money to burn...

Other than that, I'm wondering about what type of cabinet you're looking for? A full-sized one, a table-top or a mini cabinet?

@ThanosReXXX Wow hey thanks! Appreciate the effort put into the post! I have a lot to look over when I get home from work. I don't want to abuse my Youtube privileges while here lol. However, the polycade looks like it is one heck of a machine!

Honestly, I am looking at more of the novelty of the arcade systems. The wife and I are currently in the market for a house and we're moving cause we want to, not cause we have to (to get back to family). Our house basically exploded in value due to market trends and a new Amazon distribution center opened up 25 minutes away.

I am basically dreaming of my perfect man cave and I have always wanted an arcade machine of some sort. I'm only 23 but I have always felt the nostolgia of my dad taking me to the arcade when I was maybe no older than 6-7 years old. It's a real shame arcades aren't as common anymore. So the Polycade looks like a very attractive option. Price isn't a huge deal since if I am going to buy one I am going to buy one that is going to last and be worth my money, especially for a retro arcade system you're dropping $400 on it anyway! The wall mount is a nice touch, and I do like the edition of steam and the ability to play newer games. I could just imagine playing skull girls or tekken 7 on it and having a blast!

@Chunkboi79 You're welcome.
Personally, I've always liked/preferred the more traditional, or true arcade cabinets. Having options is nice, but seeing as arcade cabinets are an actual childhood memory of mine, I wouldn't want to distort that by putting modern games on there. Ideally, I'd want one of those Neo Geo cabinets, and/or one with all the arcade classics ranging from the early 80's to the 90's, but no further than that.

P.S.

The Polycade costs $4000, not $400...

@ThanosReXXX Oh I know that it's $4000, I was referring to the cheaper Arcade1UP models that seem to be pretty popular right now.

I understand the appeal of the traditional arcade cabinets. There's just something about the art that they place on those, it just bleeds nostalgia. The Neo Geo was always a system that I was very intrigued with, my dad would always talk about how nobody could afford them so when emulation was a thing he was really excited. I picked up a few titles off of the switch eshop myself.

When I saw nidhogg on that Polycade I was pretty stoked. I think that if I put anything more modern on the system I would put mainly fighters, smaller multiplayer indie titles, maybe some retro revivals (like pacman championship edition 2 and potentially the new bubble bobble). I feel like arcade machines just bring a change to the atmosphere in a room, that's probably just the thought of those excited memories of me walking into the local arcade with my dad to play Marvel vs. Capcom

@Chunkboi79 Haha, ah.. okay, I thought you made a typo, or a reading error...

But yeah, the Neo Geo was indeed the greatest arcade to home machine, that practically no one could afford. I've only ever known one person, in my own circle of friends and acquaintances who owned one. Besides the cost for the machine itself, cartridges also cost $100 or more a piece. But of course, you did get a 1:1 copy of an arcade game in your home in return, so expensive as it was, it was definitely worth it, and every arcade gamer's dream.

Except for most of us, that is also what it remained being...
