Was playing Fable 1 today and reminded me how dated the graphics were even though it was only 1 gen ago. then decided to load fable 2 and the demo for three and I was blown away how far we've come by the time of fable 3 which looks far greater than any of the other games. I then decided to so it with the the Halo and Zelda series which didn't work that well due to wind waked not agony compared to twilight princes.
ap anyone else sometimes awe struck.
WAT!
Hey check out my awesome new youtube channel shingi70 where I update weekly on the latest gaming and comic news form a level headed perspective.
Not really, everything after 64 and PS I stopped being impressed. What I am amazed at though is Megaman and Kirby as NES games. Seems to me wouldn't be possible to run them, even though they can. I just remember stuff like Paper Boy then look at Megaman and Kirby. Such a big jump for me.
I may be called backwards, but I kind of miss the days of sprite limitation. It meant more abstraction and it meant more innovation. I can't help but feel that we lost some of that creativity as we were able to express the literal over the abstract.
but hey, graphics dont make the gameplay dont it,as long as its a good and worth while game then im set but graphics here and there dont hurt but wouldnt want all to be realistic
I started out on the grand ol' 2600, so i'm always dumbfounded at where we are graphically these days. Though ironically, there are plenty of 2600 games that i still enjoy more than modern games.
Regarding recent gaming gens, I think the 3DS version of Ocarina raised an interesting observation; it didn't seem that much improved graphically to me at first, as in my memory, that's how the game looked — though when you actually compare the two, it's obvious how much it is improved.
@the_shypdar: I got that feeling with OoT 3DS too but I think I still prefer the Nintendo64 game. Link runs more heroically.
I suppose games have come quite a way. I'd like to see more 2d games with nice art instead of 3D though. Like "A boy and his blob" and "Wario Land: Shake it".

I wish we could move on from that tired old phrase. A game without good graphics is like meat without salt — they need each other and can't really stand on their own. And by "good" I mean enjoyable to look at, not necessarily technical wonders.

Agreed. Also it seems we can't help ourselves to spew that phrase even when the thread is about GRAPHICS and not at all about gameplay or if graphics = or < or > gameplay. It's about freaking graphics and only.
But yes i'm quite impressed from my Super Nintendo days till I got my 64, then a gamecube, and was blown away by Luigi's Mansion. Then further blown away by games like Uncharted and Battlefield 3.

I'm blown away by how good 3DS games such as MK7 and SM3DL look with or without the 3D on. The 3DS is essentially a portable Gamecube with better graphics and 3D. People would have payed thousands for this thing a few years ago.
When I read the thread title I knew it was gonna be one of those threads.
That's not even what this thread is about! People need to stop accidentally trolling... I myself, am amazed by current graphics as well, particularily on handhelds (on consoles I was no longer wowed too much after Crysis on PC looking amazing). Look at Infinity Blade or Resident Evil Revelations, or anything on Vita.
Best thread ever

I'm actually not impressed at all with the current HD graphics. Being how I don't own one, I had... these big expectations on what the graphics looked like. Until my friend brought over his 360 and left it here for me to play. It's not what I thought they would be. Not saying they looked bad, but I had a different idea.
Also Deja Vu x3 I feel like I have said this 3 times already... and I felt like I said... that I said this before 2 times.
I haven't been blown away by how any games look, really. The real world around me has a lot more detail in it than any game I've played, so nothing in a video game can really look that amazing. What can blow me away at times though is how fun and addictive some games can be from a gameplay point of view. Sure, it's nice that visually games have been improving over time, but they need to find ways to make the gameplay more forwards as well. If everyone focuses on visuals rather than on gameplay, then it'll feel like we're moving backwards rather than forwards no matter how pretty or realistic the games start to look.
