So there's this game called Airoheart coming soon to Switch as well as other platforms.
Here's the trailer:

What do you think about it? Is it a shameless rip-off of or is it an acceptable evolution of A Link to the Past?
(You can guess which opinion I hold... )

I wouldn't say it's a rip off. It's not an original idea either. I think the game will be very similar to link to the past period. It is most likely inspired by a it. Just because there is 50 different ways to make a hamburger, doesn't mean that all hamburgers are rip-offs of each other.

I just can't help seeing it as anything other than a glorified ROM hack! The graphics look like they took the tilesets and sprites of ALttP and modified them or traced on top of them. The animations and movesets and even gameplay elements like picking up and throwing things and swinging the sword look identical to ALttP save the fact that the sprites aren't exactly the same. Even many NPC's hairstyles and poses are identical to ALttP!

@Hero8-Bit My point is not that it's bad that they made a hamburger similar to Big Mac (ALttP), but rather that they took a Big Mac and altered it slightly and then tried to resell it as their own creation! This game is borderline plagiarism.

'...blessed by the Purple Primary'.

I don't think you get double-entendres like that in a Nintendo game.

You guys had me at blood and semen.

What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?

@Moshugan Maybe its better to ask if that matters? Does matter if this is a Rip-Off? Nintendo is not going to lose money over it (if anything, this might release on the Switch and make them more money...) We haven't seen a game like ALttP in a while from Nintendo either. If its good, we have another great game! If its bad or mediocre, it dies. And if you are a fan of ALttP, but have beat it a million times, you have something new and yet similar to enjoy.

If the big issue is that someone else it making money off of it, there is nothing stopping you from making you own as well! We should be welcoming more games, not penalizing. Because at the end of the day, life is hard and code is just arbitrary numbers to convey information. So, lets enjoy what we can get, especially if the game is not trying to harm anyone and in anyway. I say bring on the RIP-OFFS!!!

@Hero8-Bit Fair enough, I respect your opinion.
The game would be very cool if it was a ROM hack or if they presented it proudly as a rip-off. I can symphatize with the creator but I can't respect their practises. I could enjoy the game as it is, but I would respect it much more if it had completely original graphics, even if the gameplay is nigh identical to ALttP.

In video games, most games are rip-offs of what came previously.

Zelda is a rip-off of Hydlide and/or The Tower of Druaga.
