@Tyranexx, my two favourite regions are Sylvalum and Noctilum, they had epic music that made me feel really engaged in the game when playing.
The Sylvalum ost in particular, made the game have a epic anime vibe to it, the track sounds similar to Hiroyuki Sawano's other non-gaming works.
@RubyCarbuncle, the wait has been years, like other games on the Wii U and 3DS, this game has been really badly affected by the Nintendo network closure earlier this year.
I played it again recently but it is harder to unlock stuff due to the lack of online.
Also the track Melancholia, is more difficult to listen to in-game due to it being the online theme.
Someone used the server shutdown to set a world record speedrun that's now unbeatable, thanks to material grinding being much slower without access to the online. That said, everything's still available without it; you just might need to take down a superboss or two to get some of the rarer items now.
Anyway, Sylvalum was also my favorite of the continents, particularly the highlands at night, with all the bioluminescence. The Zu Pharg boss fight was an incredible spectacle too.
@Matt_Barber, the Ares 90 is still unlockable, I think to get it, the player has to 100% complete the map and put all the probes in the correct place to get 100k miranium, this would take hundreds of hours through and might not be worth it as the skell was a bragging item, that the player would show of.
The Sylvalum continent was so imaginative, it was almost like a seafloor but snowy.
I spent many pleasurable hours enjoying the amazing fauna and flora of planet Mira.
I wish more games could have such rewarding open worlds.
Yeah, I picked up the Ares 90 sometime in 2016 when grinding it was still fairly early. I managed to get the 100K Miranium easily enough too, after exploring the entire map. It's just the materials with abysmally low drop changes that are much easier to buy with tickets, and you can no longer do that.
@Matt_Barber, with the Ares 90, it is possible to defeat some of the games strongest indigens.
2016 is a long time ago, when I played the game in the early 2020s it still felt fairly new, it amazes me that this game will be a decade old next year.
Nintendo had some really fun games available in the mid 2010s, I'm hoping they will continue making great games for the next console.
@xenobladexfan Noctilum's themes are pretty awesome too. Regarding Sylvalum, I'll be honest...I wasn't a huge fan of the area at first. But the visuals and soundtrack grew on me to where I do like them now. I think part of the problem was I was pretty burnt out on the game by the time I got there and needed a break (I think I barely explored Cauldros outside of quests). The area also looks better at night, similar to Satorl Marsh in XC1.

@Tyranexx, this game is massive, it takes hundreds of hours to complete, that is why I believe it would be much better having it on a portable console; just imagine being able to play the world of Mira, anywhere without needing a TV.
Sylvalum, was really fun exploring, with really fun side quests and caves; one of my favourite areas in Cauldros, was running along the sidewalks in the sky and exploring the volcano area.
In my opinion, the character with the best affinity missions was Yelv, the 'missing' friend, side quest was really fascinating.
World building in 2015, was nowhere as near as good as modern JRPGs; just imagine a Xenoblade X remaster with full fleshed out quests that explains and connects all the characters history, similar to the world building in Nihon Falcom's, Trails series.
Tetsuya Takahashi, actually started his career in the 80s working for Nihon Falcom, there is a lot for him to learn from their excellent world building.
@xenobladexfan XCX is definitely massive. I really enjoyed my time with it back in 2016 or so, but it's telling when I start getting burned out after 100+ hours. Cauldros is probably my second favorite area in terms of design even if parts of it felt like a generic lava/fire area.
Yelv was the guy who wanted to reclaim his dead friend's body, correct? I think I remember the guy, but very few of the quest particulars. But yes, a cleaned up XCX with even better world building like Trails would be great.

@Tyranexx, the mission is called; Yelv's Partner, really intrusting quest, as with most story content in Xenoblade X, it is full of missing information, that leaves the player with unanswered questions.
The most frustrating one for me is Lao's family and the reason he made a certain decision during the story, it would have been nice if the Devs could have shown memories of his time on earth with family plus comrades.
I played about 6-7, Trails games and the best thing about that series, is excellent story writing, in particular Trails to Azure and Trails through Daybreak, give full details about particular characters backgrounds even with special art as well.
@xenobladexfan Yep. As much as I liked a lot of the side quest writing, the main plot in comparison - while I understand they wanted less focus on it - could have explored some things better. Like your example with Lao; I think I know what decision you're referring to and would have liked more background there too.
I haven't played any of the Trails entries yet, though I am gradually stockpiling the games. I can't wait to get sucked into Falcom's sprawling epoch...even if that means a LOT of games. XD I quite enjoy their Ys series and have played most modern entries. I'm working on Ys Seven right now.

This must be the same as 'This story never truly Ends' cliffhanger, that the game ends on; all the unused content must be either for a Definitive version or a sequel.
Also about Falcom, I must have spent over 400hours+ playing through all their games, great stuff!
@xenobladexfan Thanks, I appreciate all the links! I don't quite have time to browse everything right now, but I did see just enough stuff out of the first link for it to be reminiscent of some XC3 content. This does back up that they used some ideas for XCX in later games...but I'd still welcome a sequel or at least a definitive edition of sorts.
Thank Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana for opening my eyes to what Falcom can offer. I just wish the Trails series wasn't a heck of an investment. I plan to take it one arc at a time.

@xenobladexfan The Ouroboros similarities stuck out to me too. In addition, the "Black Knight" guy's outfit vaguely reminds me of Morebius.
I'm currently working on Ys Seven - though it's sidelined for Zelda right now - and still have Ys IX and Ys X to go. Then I'm caught up on all modern Ys titles.

@Tyranexx, the Black Knight, is a huge mystery, he was supposed to be the main antagonist, have his own skell and wielded a Katana.
Since the main city in XCX was originally New Tokyo, as the art book suggests, also featuring a fictional Akihabara district; the main protagonist was (Name undecided)
a young man in his late twenties.
Could he be Elma's 'friend' that she references in her third heart-to-heart,
the mysterious figure who perhaps the lyrics of 'Uncontrollable' reference.
The original plot must have been about a Japanese man and Elma, fighting together to save earth; someone made a in depth YT video about the cut content:
@Samalik, Agreed; for example make Lin's age 16/18 and have all costumes plus customisation par to the original Japanese release.
I wasn't aware of the controversies at the time but Nintendo of America were unpopular during the 3DS/Wii U era, most notorious for changing localisations on games such as Fire emblem and it's spin offs.
It was weird playing XCX, 3 years ago because the hackers in the online servers has access to the Japanese version content and displayed it during lobbies.
@xenobladexfan Don't forget the breast slider that they forced the devs to remove.
After all, there's nothing more inappropriate to show to children than a maternally built woman 🍼🤣
Funny enough, they still kept the bunny outfit uncensored on Lin, but censored all of her other outfits. lol. Too bad I never unlocked it when I was less strict about censorship. I think the things you needed to get were absurdly rare or difficult, and once I beat the story and did most of the quests, I was kinda done after 200hrs
@Samalik, As a fan of JRPGS/Anime, I don't mind female characters with different proportions of body design in games, the censorship in XCX was so odd; in XBC2, the devs completely undid censoring; Pyra/Mythra and that Icy bunny character are good examples.
The censorship with Lin, was so weird, with some of her outfits, you could still see skin uncensored, it was almost as if the Devs hoped the age rating staff, wouldn't see those outfits.
I think Nintendo should use NOE, to localise the game if remade, they handled XBC2+3 fine, NOA, is bad for changing localisations, if you look online what they did to Fire emblem Engage, they censored both female and male characters, removing whole sections of text to match some weird philosophy NOA beliefs in.
These games are aimed at smaller audiences, than stuff like Mario or Pokémon, so censorship is unnecessary.
@xenobladexfan I think it would have been interesting if XCX had went in the New Tokyo direction with the Black Knight as an antagonist. And that Elma's background had been expanded on more. Thanks for the video; my weekend was a busy one, so I had to bookmark it for later watching and fit it in a little bit ago. Some very interesting content that they pulled out of the art book. Some of it I caught when I went through, but not all of it. That video seems to back up my observations with XCX and XC3 sharing some ideas. And yeah, as much as I enjoy XCX, looking back some of it did feel kind of cobbled together. It was a very ambitious game with not the smoothest of developments, though it still turned out fairly well in my opinion. I do like how that video lays out what could have happened if the cut content was included, even if it is conjecture.
Uncontrollable is one of my favorite songs from the OST.
