And i started chapter 2 just last night. About 5.5hrs, and taking my time. I'm really trying to get to every nook and cranny of the map before moving forward on the quest.

@NintendoByNature not that easy until the next chapter as many times you will have invisible walls and your team telling you to focus on the task ahead

@Balta666 I also liked how the antagonists were such a present force in XC2, going on their own quest parallel to the main cast. The game, in general, did an amazing job of developing and integrating a wide cast of characters as they went on an epic journey.

XC3's style of storytelling is definitely slower and different, but I also like the laser focus on character interactions and how people slowly learn to start questioning the nature of the world surrounding them.

Unfortunately, XC1 never sold me on its cast interactions, and the premise placed way too much emphasis on Shulk, leaving other party members feeling a bit like third wheels for most of the game..

The music is probably the area where it's the weakest for me, but there are still a few really standout tracks, and even a mid-tier Xenoblade OST still blows nearly everything else away in the audio department.

The Keves Battle Music is probably my favourite out of all battle themes. Maybe sounds weird but it always reminds me of Sailor Moon (Uranus and Neptune Theme). 😅

@Ralizah Every party member in XC1 had their own arc though (except Riki, but he was important to Dunban’s arc), not necessarily tying into the main Monado plot, but constantly developing throughout. And I disagree that XC2 did a good job of integrating a wide cast. Morag, Zeke and even base game Malos felt underdeveloped to me (despite being the most interesting). Dromarch and Pandoria could be removed, and the Akhos, Patroka and Mikhail fights replaced with Jin and Malos, and both the story and character dynamics would be largely unaffected.

@Ralizah yeah I like xeno 1 (I played the game twice with the first time in the 3ds which is not that easy to look at) but both story and mainly its characters are not to my taste. The only one I really like is dunban.

Just hit a pretty big story twist last night. Consul J, I believe it was? Love that epic boss fight music. It's on another level entirely.

Isaiah 53:5 (700 yrs before Christ)

Are the Consuls you defeat in the Hero Quests relevant to the story? I mean, what happens if you don't do them? It appeared to me that they're optional.

I want to keep progressing the main story, but I'm really digging into all of the side content and gradually murdering my way through the bad guy alphabet as I keep encountering new heroes. Which were, by the way, a fantastic addition to the game.

Also, while I don't fully understand all of the ins-and-outs of optimizing them yet, I'm really digging the chain attack system in this game.

This is well on its way to challenging Sunbreak and Triangle Strategy for the crown this year. Fantastic game.

@Ralizah is there a full alphabet of those guys?

@Budda
Some Hero quests like Ethel are part of the main story.
Some Consuls aren't really relevant though and I doubt it would affect the story in any way if you don't defeat them.

@Ralizah
The side quests are a lot of fun. Finding the right balance between doing side quests and advancing the main story isn't always easy. So far I find myself in the groove of finishing a chapter first, then doing all the side quests I can find before completing another chapter, then do more side quests.
Chapter 3 - side quests - Chapter 4 - side quests -...

@seaboyluca yeah, I am doing the exact opposite as I cannot get myself to move forward until all map and side quests are dealt with. Yesterday another 4h of that and yet to start chapter 4 story...

I learned last night that I was doing chain attacks all wrong 😅.
I think I had the mindset of XC2 where the chain was predetermined but this version lets you choose the order of the chain.
I was getting so peeved when I had a row of healers in the order which was apparently a nuisance of my own making 😂

33 hours in and already at Chapter 6?
You're doing very few side quests then, huh?

The proper strategy for Chain Attacks is getting to 99% with as few moves as possible and end the round with your strongest potential TP gain.

Getting a "Cool" rank (less than 150TP) restores 1 of the characters you used in the round.
Getting a "Bravo" rank (between 150 and 199TP) gives back 2 characters.
Getting an "Amazing" rank (200TP and above) gives back 3 characters.

Every time a character gets restored their potential TP gain increases. So for the best effect you want a character to be restored multiple times during the chain attack, preferably Noah.

Furthermore, when you use 2 order commands of corresponding Ouroboros you get the option to use the Ouroboros command order. You want to save this command as your last because the chain attack ends when you use it.

And finally, when you start a chain attack when in a level 3 Ouroboros form, you get 2 Ouroboros commands in a row. This type of chain attack is much shorter but good for a quick burst.

There are other factors you can take into account like certain Hero commands which can give much better bonuses than others. But because you're swapping them out all the time, I think that should only be taken into consideration during the endgame when you go up against super bosses.

Edit: Forgot to mention that when you use a Hero command order, it'll not deplete the chain attack gauge for that round, essentially giving you one round for free.

I've got to say, this game comes at a perfect time.

With everything going on and tensions rising all across the world, it's nice to experience an anti-war story like this. The way all these characters, both main and side, learn to accept one another, see past their differences and lay down their arms has been wonderful to behold so far.

There's this looming thread in the distance, one that's difficult to grasp, but if we all come together, we can beat any odds.
