@XandertheWise As other users here have mentioned, please use the spoiler. Posting blatant spoilers from a newly released game is against our community guidelines & will be removed. Thanks
Allegedly the game has been datamined, and where every other character has a 0 or 1 set as their gender variable, Juniper is the only character with a 2, basically explicitly confirming that they are intended to be non-binary.
This recent trend I'm observing of ppl trying to inject their new age beliefs into fictional video game characters is concerning. Idk if it's a need to feel validation or what, but it's kinda weird. If a developer wants a character to be a certain way, they'll make it clear as day. If you have to dig through game files and use some 0 or 1 to prop up your claim, your hypothesis likely doesn't hold any water whatsoever. Let the characters speak for themselves without projecting personal beliefs onto them.
Just about to wrap up the 7 Nopon Quest but got bombarded with even more sidequests. I'm never going to finish the game at this rate. Not that that's a bad thing. I want to finish it because the story- I'm anxious to see how it ends. But I also don't want the game to end.

@JaxonH I thought the facts that Juniper is only referred to in a gender neutral manner in multiple languages, their androgynous design and non-binary English VA, already made it clear as day, but there were still some people insisting “no, it’s the work of corrupt SJW localisers!”. This is just adding more evidence to the pile.
The trap ppl fall into is wanting to believe something, and using any evidence they can find to support their desired outcome. And this happens all the time. We all do it, myself included. It's why everyone believes Switch Pro rumors, regardless of how thin the "evidence" backing it is (though to be fair, there were a few instances of seemingly legitimate leaks, but many if not most were baseless). Why? Because people wanted it to be true. And that clouded their judgement.
It's the sort of thing that leads to that whole Splatoon fiasco, which of course turned out to be nothing more than wishful thinking willed into existence by certain fans. Same thing here. What would normally be commonly understood as a simple typo, gets misconstrued into some grand hypothesis. Why? Because certain ppl want it to be true. So they read too much into things. They see "evidence" that isn't really evidence. Just random errors.
BTW, are there any Hero Quests that unlock to Rank 20 that are considered "must play"? I'm about to wrap things up and continue with the main quest. But before I do so, I wanted to check and just make sure I'm not missing any top shelf content. I've done the one for Colony 9 growing potatoes, all the main protagonist ones, the one for Gray, the one for Riku and Manana, and maybe a couple others

@JaxonH Have you done all the Juniper content yet? The game takes care not to mention their gender and like @Munchlax said, she has a non-binary VA, androgynous design, and several sites refer to them as non--binary.
I understand you might not "agree" with that kind of thing but that's no reason to diss other people who'd like to think that because it better represents them in the gaming industry. You realize people who don't want it to be true are going to look as hard as they can for evidence that suggest that too right? Your argument works both ways.
The splatoon event was understandable, people had wishful thinking, she turned out not to be non-binary, and oh well, she's not non-binary. Those who DIDN'T want them to be non-binary had a bigger reaction than those who did want them to be lol.
Keep in mind, I'm partly on your side. I'll be honest, I don't personally care what the heck a character's gender is within a video game. But I don't put down those who do, I don't fight to prove someone wrong. (Apologies, as I'm not trying to start an argument with any of this, I just saw what you wre saying and thought it to be quite silly).
@FroZtedFlakerZz
I wouldn't diss anyone personally. Just the notion of injecting personal beliefs into a fictional character. Has nothing to do with my own beliefs, which are another matter entirely.
Ppl can believe whatever they want. It makes no difference either way at the end of the day. But I do find the argument to be a poor one, and I felt the need to say as much. If the devs come out and say it, ok. Or if the character comes out and says it, ok. But short of that, it's just needless speculation, and for what purpose? It accomplishes nothing. It changes nothing.
I just don't like this trend I'm observing lately where, rather than talk about games, ppl want to talk about fictional character genders. They want to infer things that are not explicitly confirmed. If it were in isolation I'd likely ignore, but coming right off the back of the Splatoon thing, it's like come on guys. Can we move past this obsession please.
I would also note that ppl who don't want it to be so aren't the ones bringing the subject up. If they were, I'd be saying the exact same thing to them. Because at the end of the day, I don't come here to speculate gender.

@JaxonH I can understand that I guess, although the speculation doesn't change anything, neither does not speculating, so I think it's best to just let it be, let people believe what they like to believe. Fun for them, and not impactful to anyone else really.

Anyways, setting the thread back on track now heh. I actually really like this game's new way of categorizing enemies on the field. It's gotten me to fight much more in this game than in the others (so much so that I'm kinda sorta very overlevelled). If I see something with a shine, or a colored mark above it's head, and it's within my level, it's as good as dead lol. I have wayyy too many monster parts now lol, it does make those "fetch quests" where it gives you a list pretty easy though.
