@Introspect I think you’d understand it pretty well. Most of the concepts are explained well enough, though the main game spends a lot more time building up the structure and lore of the world.
In some ways, Torna is actually a pretty good entry point since it’s a much more condensed and focused game so you could get a feel for the general Xenoblade structure without committing to a 80+ hour game.
That being said, personally, I would only recommend playing it first if you really are not going to play the main game as certain moments in the main game might not have the same impact if you already played Torna.
@NEStalgia I can understand the frustration with RNG. I guess I had a combination of luck and determination, because I rarely had a problem with field skills. I guess I got most of the rare Blades early-mid game. I think only KOS-MOS and Floren eluded me until NG+. KOS-MOS literally escaped my grasp until after I had both Poppibuster and T-elos, so yeah. She clearly didn't want to be with me. XD She's not really necessary for any field skills though, so it was more annoying than frustrating.
Don't know about it being easier with the DLC. It gives you a few quests. The Blades started to arrive when most people (I assume) were done with the first play-through. I don't see how it would "help," it feels to me that it does what I want DLC to do - costumes and other non-essentials, stuff that I want just because I want more to do in that world. Disguised Pyra is all I need from life. <3
@AlternateButtons I'm glad you feel that way. I've thoroughly enjoyed the game, and I think I did all the side quests on the first play-through (at least everything I could find. With how much I ran around I don't think I missed anything.) I just wish NG+ would remove the community lock so I can do a proper speed run without all the side quests. XD C'mon Monolith. I've done the work once, just let me do as I like.
I want using talent arts, i didn't think of that at all and I'm always uncertain if Faustian skills. I was thinking you had to do a full burst right when it hits rage.... Which is hard to not enrage while slapping orb combos on. Malos is a push over in contrast.
@darkfenrir wow the comments in that thread make the worst of nl look dreamy.
I also love how every xc2 conversation always devolves into "lol Japanese soundtrack is so much better even thoughi don't understanda word of it" weebery.
@NEStalgia Oh yes, the comments in other websites are quite bad too even in full on nintendo sites like this one xD; Gematsu I think is not too bad... but when it's bad it's real bad.
(Well I'm also guilty of that... but in the end I listen to nearly everything as long as I like it)
Finally managed to get every single Blade. Such a satisfying feeling to have the Blade Album completed. Not sure if I want to stop playing now or try to complete all of the affinity charts and beat the challenges on every difficulty.
I'm hoping in celebration for the game's sales success we'll have one final free DLC update with Malos and Jin as NG+ Blades. Maybe even add Lora as an extra Driver, although I think that's less likely.
I have 99% completed Torna in 41 hours. Just not strong enough to beat the 4 gold monsters, and finding/beating all unique monsters (this will be hard because there are no hints). Will do a NG+ run to get all the needed WP or TP or what it's called.
And then I'll continue my 370 hours on Xeno 2 now that I have all the DLC.
@Galenmereth Monster density? I have no idea what that even means. What, enemies are bunched up together? You have a million AoE capabilities so they all go down easily, especially when playing as Mythra.
Half-assed story? Elaborate.
Also these characters are fleshed out fairly well. Compare, say, Haze and especially Mythra to their current counterparts and it's pretty good.
@Galenmereth That's literally the same in Xenoblade 1 and 2. Although imo Torna oversimplified the combat compared to 2, in some form or fashion it was in Xenoblade 1 and 2 as well. I don't get "filler combat" since by extension that'll mean the fights in other games were filler?
There's only a few sidequest gating in the story, but I'd argue these are very strong sidequests that rival X's sidequests so it isn't too bad.
Metroid, Xenoblade, EarthBound shill
I run a YouTube/Twitch channel for fun. Check me out if you want to!
Please let me know before you send me a FC request, thanks.
Just picked up Xenoblade Chronicles 2 a couple days ago. Didn't get the season pass yet, but that's cause after paying bills money was a little tight. I had enough for a game though.
So far my spoiler free thoughts on the game:
Combat is both boring, and interesting at the same time. Auto attacks are a complete snooze fest usually. Especially if they are the main way to deal damage. The Blade Skill/Combo system though makes battles a lot more engaging, thus avoiding my biggest complaint about Final Fantasy XII.
The story so far is interesting. It hasn't taken any 'unexpected' twists I wasn't able to see a mile away yet, but still has been interesting so far. And the side missions also make me interested in completing them by actually having story reasons for their existence. Instead of Random Fetch Quest #372 there's so far been multi-tiered missions that have reasonable goals, logical reasoning for the goals, and that further the story of the people involved. That IMO is a nice change of pace. You get tired of Fed Ex quests and random hunts for no apparent reason.
The leveling system feels a bit odd, but not in a bad way. Drivers have the standard "spend ability currency to unlock ability nodes", while Blades unlock new abilities by actually doing stuff with the blade. That's not bad overall. That said, some abilities look like they're gonna be a PAIN to unlock since they're linked to reviving defeated allies. Now that I have the 'Holy Trinity' of Tank/Healer/DPS my party so far is either powering through fights with nobody going down, or the main character gets defeated and I am booted back to the last Landmark with no inbetween.
Field skills... They're all right I suppose. Although I can see why people would be frustrated by them.
I noticed that @AlternateButtons. Initially combat was boring when I only had one driver skill. But as the others became available combat started to become more engaging. Now with positioning, juggling Driver Skills, Special Attacks, and Blade Combos I feel like I'm never just staring at the screen watching as the party fights enemies on their own. Which eventually becomes a major issue in FFXII about a quarter of the way into the game once you have a solid Gambit setup. It gets worse after that.
All in all, I can see where some of the issues people complain about could be annoying, but I'm greatly enjoying the game so far.
In an interview Monolith said they wanted to put Torna between Chapters 7 and 8 of the main game, but it became too big and would have stretched the game too much with a completely different cast of characters, a new big Titan (and an alternative old one), and lots of different mechanics.
Torna is great. The only thing keeping it from epicness is that it's about 1/4 of the length of Xeno 2.
I like how the battles are now more flexible and all the other nice touches and upgrades from Xeno 2 that make the progression better and everything a bit more comfortable.
When I can afford it, I look forward to playing the expansion. I'm hoping it explains how the group went from "noble selfless heroes" to "terrorist group that is willing to kill innocents to accomplish their goals".
I’ve been taking a paus from the game for some months after reaching the final boss who beat the crap out of me, but today I got back to it with a different strategy and beat the bastard in one try. Feels so good now!
It’s been one epic journey and after almost 100 hours of playing this enormous RPG, I must say it was worth its price. Not as good as the first one (which is a 10/10 in my book), but it’s a solid 9/10.
Sure, it had some problems, like the pacing, but when I really got into it, it was fantastic! One of the best games on Switch.
Lol so a game anda half later i finally discovered that if you use the right stick on the fast travel map the little blue icons show you all the minor locations! All through both games while doing quests and affinity Trees i thought you could only find minor locations by either memorizing them from the first pass through or spending hours just walking everywhere hoping to find it. Places like hoary welds, valafum hill, wrackham moor that don't have named travel pointsi thought there was no mention of them on the map.... That was one of my complaints months ago! Ugh! Well that's one easier thing! Could have saved30 hours last time.
Now all I'm missing for now it's wherever saints practice grounds is and one lone barrel hidden somewhere in the whole game..... I'm doubtful Ill locate that.
Probably a lot of dialog I'm still missing sincei have 44 community and apparently theres 88 total according to the affinity chart.
I haven't gone down the elevator to chase malos yet.
