You have to target a variety of gamers like Sony by producing a variety of types of software-- sports, fighters, adventure, shooters. They can't just make offline party titles.
As far as hardware goes-- combine next gen 16nm chips with a next gen 3D tracking 1-handed controller and you will capture both the hardcore early adopter with graphics and the wider audience with sensible innovation/evolution.
