With the undoubtedly cool Switch EShop, there comes a lot of hidden gem titles. Maybe now and then you find a "Nice." Or maybe a "Woohoo!" Playing these possibly underrated games. What's your opinion on Switch/Wii U indie titles?
I think the Switch is the best console for Indie games and nearly always gets the most sales out of all the consoles but there is also a lot of rubbish to sort through to get to the gems. Most of my favourite Switch games are indies like Night In The Woods, Golf Story, the Ori games, Lonely Mountains Downhill, Untitled Goose Game, Invisible Inc and plenty of others
Some indie games are more impressive than some AA or AAA games, depending on the level of polish. But when an indie game is great it's usually because it's a passion project that took years to plan, develop, and bugfix. The eShop is quickly becoming like Steam and iOS, you'll find some diamonds in rough, but you'll have to sift through a whole lot of trash mobile games to find them.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,537 games (as of December 22nd, 2025)
Switch 2 Physical Collection - 4 games (as of December 8th, 2025)
Indie are good and bad and some I like more if they can offer a Physical option. But alot depends on gamers tastes and some like them and some don't like them. You get shovelware and excellentware. You just have to know which one to support if KS or Indie or standalone but that will be up to the buyers to choose as well.
The only reason I bought a Switch was for Nintendo exclusives and indie games since I already have a PS4 for PlayStation exclusives (and Kingdom Hearts lol) and a PC for multiplats and Xbox games.
I've actually not been using my Switch that often as of late since I'm just waiting to get my hands on a PS5, but the few indies I have played like Crypt of the NecroDancer, Mighty Gunvolt Burst, Shovel Knight and Sayonara Wild Hearts are pretty well suited to the platform.
@TheFrenchiestFry everyone buys for their taste and gameplay. The Switch is very handy even if graphics aren't 2k, 4k levels but it's the hybrid and fun nature of Switch that makes up for that fun factor that everyone can enjoy. Plus with Mario Kart Live Circuit the more Switch the more fun you can have in real life racing with other players.
I'd say for every 1 good indie game there's 30 bad, and I don't think the switch eshop is the best for allowing the good games to rise to the top. There are also too many games in the same genre, everyone seems to be obsessed with metroidvania and roguelikes.
I also think there's an issue with growth. Indie developers tend to stay indie developers. It would be nice if the good ones expanded, and started producing AA games. The industry as a whole seems to be at two extremes, AAA or Indie, not a whole lot in between.
The best indie games I've played are Furi, return of the Obra Dinn and lethal league blaze. They all felt very original
