I'd agree, but the YouTube commenters under the video seem to find it revolutionary. A lot of them seem to believe it signifies a new, more grown-up Nintendo.
The irony of course being that they're sitting there laughing at poo jokes. But whatever works.
I don't see it as toilet humour at all. I thought it was just a visual shortcut to saying "you can play this in places a traditional console can't go".
Think about it. What rooms in a house are universally impractical for playing home console games? Not the lounge, family room, or bedroom. Not the kitchen because some people have an open plan house. That leaves three rooms. Toilet, bathroom and laundry. In the bathroom (when not used as a toilet) you're typically nude when you're in there and pouring water over yourself. Not ideal for the Switch or an ad. In the laundry you're doing laundry which requires the use of your hands. That leaves the toilet which literally has a seat.
I think its very smart of them to go there. Because, like it or not, it's the perfect image to describe what how the Switch is different from the PS4. In the same way that the bit during the UNI lecture is. And how the shot of them around the TV is good at showing that it is also a home console. It's pretty much perfect IMO.

Nintendo is holding their Q3 financial results briefing on February 1st in Japan. Analysts, investors, the media and the press will be there. It's the perfect opportunity for Nintendo to reveal more details on the Switch. We're going to find out a lot more about the system on this day.
It's a solid ad because they managed to highlight the main selling points of the Switch in just 30 seconds. Single-player/multiplayer experiences in unconventional places, TV/Tabletop/Tablet modes offering different ways of playing, and the seamless transition from TV to tablet which can be clearly seen at the start and the end of the ad.
It's a far cry from the embarrassing Family Time ad they made for the Wii U which is a minute long.
@MumboJumbo
The thing about that Wii U ad is that if you removed the audio it could be any console. Sure Mario Kart but Mario Kart isn't exactly a Wii U only game. The only bit in that ad that was even remotely unique to Wii U was the off-TV play bit. Which, as much as I loved the feature, is a hard sell on its own especially when you're limited to one room.
The Switch ad? No explanation required. They show it in places you haven't been able to play full console games before and they then show it rendering visuals you haven't been able to get on portables. And they swap between the two. It's very clear. You know exactly what the Switch is about and they don't have to say a single word.

Didnt they fire the guy's ass behind all this awful marketing?
Thinking about game case sizes for a second. I have a shelving unit I built about 7 years ago which has a bunch of storage holes for different media. CD racks, space for odd-sized CDs and space for a few music related DVDs. It also has some extra bench space and a shelf where I can store DS/3DS games. There's no obvious space to put Switch cases on that shelving unit.
I also have a fairly large and old DVD rack. That's where pretty much all of my game disks are stored. Because I've always been PC + Nintendo that means Wii and Wii U game disks. I can also fit all of my BluRays on this shelf even if they are a bit loose. But the cases for Switch games are too narrow, they won't fit.
So there's my first world problem I'm trying to figure out right now. When I have a couple of physical games I can just sit them on a shelf or something. But where to I neatly store them when I have 10 ore more cases? I don't know. Why couldn't they just be in 3DS sized cases?
@skywake I think they've probably gone with larger cases just to help its image that it's a home console also.Having the case sized larger than a portable case but smaller than a home console case seems the right move for a hybrid console.
@OorWullie
Oh it definitely makes sense. It's just a bit annoying that it's not really the same size as any other common physical media. 3DS are basically the same size as special-edition or double album CD cases. And also about the same size as DS cases and GBA/GBC/GB boxes. Then all of the recent disk based consoles have used DVD or BluRay sized cases. But the Switch case isn't near any standard size for width (DVD) or height (CD).
Which is slightly annoying......

Thinking about it again I think my issue here is more with my media storage. If it was the size of something I already have on a shelf somewhere? Obviously that wouldn't be an issue. But because it's not it just happens to not have a place. But if someone else has a BluRay shelf rather than a rack? For them it won't be an issue.
As it is I'll probably store my Switch games in a stack somewhere.....

@skywake Oh, don't get me wrong, I'm not putting the advert down. I think it's excellent. Even if I don't like it. I mean, I think it's an excellent advert in that it does exactly what an advert is supposed to do. Whether I find it nice to watch is irrelevant.
However, I do think there's a big chunk of toilet humour in there, just looking at the shots, and... well, the toilet. The marketers must have known about the impact that would have (that over-the-shoulder shot leaves little to the imagination, and the near-enough 'crotch cam' is also pretty risqué), but impact is exactly what you want in an ad, and toilet humour manages to achieve it without really offending anyone (after all, everyone's been there).
And as you say, it perfectly demonstrates what you can do with the Switch that you can't with any other home console.
Away from the toilet, it also does a really good job of demonstrating the main feature of the Switch; the switchability. Nearly every scene moves from handheld to home, but the fact that it's the same game being played gives the whole thing a sense of continuity and answers the question, "Is it a handheld or home console?" with a triumphant, "Yes. That's exactly what a Switch is; a handheld or a home console. Your choice".
That was what made the first advert so compelling, and it's the same for this too. Throw in a toilet scene for impact, and to demonstrate the 'personal' side of the device, and you're onto a winner.
So I think we're largely in agreement about the efficacy of the ad. It's a good ad.
