@DJaa Death Stranding was in development at the time of the first trailer, and I wouldn't be surprised if he already started working on the project during his last year at Konami.

Anyway, to get back to the original point, I think that showing a couple of 2018 games won't hurt, it shows that Nintendo is committed to support and it instills confidence in the consumers. Arguably, they already showed a 2018 game, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but that's another discussion entirely. Nintendo's way of revealing games when they're almost done sounds great in theory, but in practice that means that the consumers don't know what's coming and without games to look forward to, a console can be a tough sell. I think you can argue for both sides in this case.

@Whitewatermoose To be honest I'm not surprised.ni also wouldn't be surprised if the HD remasters of any game in the Resident Evil series made their way over to the Switch either, including the remake of the second game.

@Octane I think i'll agree with you when the Switch ends up having dissapointing sales, otherwise i'll be fine with their strategy. Nintendo has experience with attractive products and selling them. Switch + zelda may not be enough for your hardcore entitled hard to please gamer, but when average joe sees the switch hardware and then zelda, and then mario oddysey I think it'll be enough for average joe to wanna get that thing day one and also be very pleased with it

Just like most have been saying since the original switch teaser, the list of 3rd party developers means nothing. Until the games are in our hands. As it stands the Switch has even worse launch 3rd party support than the Wii U

@DJaa Unfortunately the average Joe doesn't care about Zelda and (3D) Mario, or rather, they may not even be aware of the games. I think that Mario Kart has a better chance of convincing that crowd into buying a Switch.

To be fair, their response was more along the lines of "we haven't announced RE7 for Switch yet". Rather than a confirmation that it won't be coming.

I need reassurance guys! 😂 I pre-ordered the switch on Game (UK) ages and ages ago late 2016 and then when Amazon UK put it up on 13th Jan 2017 in the morning, I pre-ordered one around 8:30am...but deleted the Game pre-order (dumb move I know).

I know Amazon UK is now sold out but I'm now worried that they won't have enough to fulfil all pre-orders - how likely do you reckon I'll get the pre-order?

@ProjectX1991
Well, you're in the UK, and if you're to believe the internet, the UK is incapable of selling a single Switch preorder to any of its millions of consumers. So ... yea, I guess you'll be fine lol

Yes, I agree. But as of right now, they are saying not to expect it.

One thing I wish we new was how long ago did third parties get dev kits? If they didn't get them until late October or November, then I am not worried about it. If they have had them since last summer or E3. That is concerning regarding ports.

I wouldn't be all that concerned yet. 3rd Parties are clearly cautious after being burned by the Wii U. If the Switch gains a large hardcore fanbase, I could totally see RE7 getting ported, but Nintendo needs to demonstrate that fanbase first.

The Joycons don't have speakers, do they? It be a shame if they didn't. It was cool feature of the Wii remotes, and would go well with the HD rumble.

Got married.

Does anyone else feel like Nintendo isn't marketing the Switch to its full potential or as attractive to potential buyers as possible? Currently they are marketing Switch as the most versatile home gaming console and a home console you can also play on the go. Which is fine ... except calling it solely a home console draws comparisons to the PS4 and Xbox One, both of which are more powerful and cheaper than the Switch. Yes, calling it a home console you can take on the go is attractive to some people, but I feel that most potential buyers will shrug and say that the convenience of playing on the go is not worth sacrificing power, graphics, and more third-party games, not to mention the extra cost to playing on the go in addition to aforementioned sacrifices. And the average Joe will see a $250 PS4 or Xbox One with a game, compared to a $300 Switch with no games included, and probably pick up the PS4 or Xbone cause his/her friends have one.

I'm not saying the Switch is a poor machine; it seems to be an amazing console. And in this case I'm not arguing about the price (though I do think the cost should be lower for both the console and accessories to really drive adoption). In this case, what I'm saying is that if Nintendo could market the Switch as "the most powerful handheld ever made, and the most versatile home console ever made, all in one device, for only $299," that could be far more appealing, and also tell people that this isn't just a GameCube/Wii/Wii U (or simply a Nintendo home console) that can be played anywhere on the go, but a GameCube/Wii/Wii U PLUS a Game Boy/DS/3DS (or simply a Nintendo handheld system) all in one device for just $299. That I feel could really attract the average person into buying a Switch.

I know Nintendo isn't doing what I said in the previous paragraph because they're afraid of cannibalizing 3DS sales, but they need to wake up and realize that if they're too concerned with protecting the 3DS, they're going to hinder the Switch right from day one. They should still make games for the 3DS and sell the 3DS, but they should also talk about the Switch as their most powerful handheld ever and, yes, the successor to the 3DS. 3DS will have a market regardless due to its cheaper entry point and mature library, so losing a couple extra sales of the 3DS in return for making the Switch more attractive to potential buyers is much better, IMHO.

@Whitewatermoose

The thing is, it's good to be cautious. But they can't be so cautious to the point that they're hurting the Switch's prospects of success. If they're too cautious - like not even calling Switch a handheld (in addition to calling it a home console) or calling it a successor to 3DS (as well as the Wii U) because they're afraid of losing some sales of their 6-year old device that already has a lower entry cost and a mature game library, then they themselves are making it more likely for Plan B to occur

@smm1 I don't fully understand it either. Like Whitewatermoose said, I think they're just being cautious, because they know that this system will be competing with the 3DS, but I can also understand that they don't want to write the 3DS off yet. In case the Switch isn't a success, they will always have something to fall back on. The initial supply is pretty low, only 2 million, but they will sell through that stock anyway, and I guess it's something that will keep the investors happy, since the Switch launch means that it can recoup anything that they lost on the Wii U this past year. If it turns out to be a success, I expect that we'll be seeing a ''second launch'' this holiday; The black Switch will be bundled with Super Mario Odyssey or something and the Red/Blue Switch will be bundled with 1-2-Switch, both retailing for $300 as well.

Which means nothing given that the Wii U's problems were with first party releases at launch not third party titles. Also the fact that the Wii U launched in November and the Switch is launching in March. Does the Switch have CoD on day 1? Well no. But the newest CoD will be old news by the time it launches.

@Whitewatermoose It's Konami, there won't be DLC. If they wanted to more money from you, they would've included micro-transactions. No, but seriously, don't expect DLC.

Hey I just read an article saying Walmart is still taking preorders until Jan 23rd. Just thought I'd let you know as a courtesy. I know what a bummer it is to not get a launch system when you're looking.
