@DJaa okay chill dude. that is highly uncalled for. seriously, chill.
its all good dude im just kiddin but the impact of this misinformation coming out of that idiot's mouth is unnescesary and thats the key word, unnescesary. He really needs to go but he is way too good at his acting job. A lot of people succeed that way and i think after those years he is pretty much safe. I hope kimishima fires his ash tho.
DJaa you're coming across a bit over the top here with your Reggie bashing. None of us know the kind of constraints the person is under, everything he does for Nintendo. I'm not really sure we're in a position to assume he should be fired or is a fool.
@dtjive I never really bashed the man either but on further analysis i just cant come at a different conclusion. Im sure the man has experience in finances and knows 1 or 2 things about marketing, but they need to stop making him do PR at least because he is teeerible at it. Again when doesnt him opening his mouth create skeptecism or confusion? Its like whenever he opens that mouth of his there's a majority of negativs reactions. Its because the dude is never specific or clear. He just does what he has been doing for years which is playing it safe to keep his job. If you got some life experience you'll see through these things. The man is incredibly good at taking a role.
I'll guarantee you guys that reggie would have never lasted this long at the other 2 competitors. Maybe a bit better at microsoft since they share the business mentality a bit, but reggie would be long gone at sony. Sincerity over everything
Ok well what Reggie is saying about online voice chat, lobbies, and friends list being handled exclusively they the app is correct. Neogaf is reporting this on the Japanese Nintendo site it states verbatim what Reggie is saying.
So it is possible that the online is not ready to go at launch and may not be available until Mario Kart launch. That is me speculating.
Yeah i get that part too. Ill be fine if its only chatting and voice chat for nintendo games(since nintendo games never had voice chat before)
But i hope third parties can make up their own decisions on this, and i hope there's at least the friendlist on the console. There must be a friendlist.. right?

I'm assuming you can still play with random people without the app, just not friends?
Its not that i dislike the idea of an app. I actually think people are going to prefer it and even without that its going to be a huge step forward from not being able to message with friends at all on the 3ds and wii u. The thing just is that i need the basic stuff right in front of my face. I wanna be able to add friends through the switch itself. I want a notification in front of me when they come online or invite me to stuff. I just think itd incredibly incompetent to not have both like the other 2. Nintendo doesnt have to, and shouldnt be incompetent imo. They should have learned by now
@DJaa That's at least 3 different posts in the past 24 hours where you've used profanity. Don't do it again or we'll seek a suspension for your account.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
Also I have limited tech knowledge. But more than the average person.
The one reason you should be excited to Nintendo online thru the mobile app...
There is no reason why you can't chat thru the app even when your not on Switch. It would be like Skype or discord. You should be able to chat with friends via voice or text in ongoing chat rooms.
This thread here could be done in theory on the Switch and you could talk about any issues you want.
You should also be able to set up group play for a later point in time, like an appointment with friends.
Both those things are forward thinking.
It just makes no sense that it would all be locked on the app. I think the idea that you can talk to your friends and set up games with it is cool, but if you need the phone to play with them even when at home, that's just ridiculous and I can't think of any reason why that should be the case. I really hope that something changes or there was some miscommunication and you can still do it through the Switch itself. At the very least, I hope the friend thing works through tablets and such as well as phones.
I think people are missing the real reason it's done via a mobile phone.
Not everyone has a headset, for one, which I think is where Reggie is coming from, especially on the go, but think about this angle.
Bandwidth, the good old fashioned Baud Rate. Having your voice and chat stuff go via the system through the game requires system resources and the systems bandwidth. Have it go through the phone frees up the connection used by the system for the game, which is especially important in something like Splatoon due to how its online works.
Second, look at streamers, gamers online in videos, or even some eSports. They don't use the in-game stuff, they have Discord or Skype open to communicate and stream their audio independently. In the online communities, in-game voice chat isn't used much, for simplicity and ease of use.
Third - Switch isn't 4G enabled seemingly. So when on the go, youd likely be online using hotspots. Not the best connections in the world, so use your phone and its data to chat, and have the system go through the hotspot to maximise usability.
Just some thoughts. Cue hate in 3...2...1....

The phone is a good idea, like I said, but...why not through the system too? A lot of people aren't gonna be taking this on the go, after all. Unless there was some miscommunication and it does work through the system as well.
Eh... It's creating a problem where there shouldn't be one, if we're taking things at face value. The app would be great if you could send messages and whatnot while not at home. But having everything done exclusively through it is needlessly cumbersome. Let's just hope it's not the case. The switch shouldn't be so fragile that having basic online features somehow ruins the game experience due to not having enough system resources
@Whitewatermoose Oh absolutely. Voice chat can be..hm. Lets say unpleasant.
@KirbyTheVampire I expect it will be. But sadly it may not and I get why. I assume they are still pushing the on the go aspect, logically. However, I know outside of my ethernet, my wifi here is the definition of a waterfall. Starts good and dies so if im using ethernet on my Wii U or PS4 to play online for longer than 5 minutes, my phone is the way to go for the other stuff.

@BLP_Software just sick of daddy knows best nintendo always telling me what i do and do not like and want is all. And they have the gall to ask for money.

Saying the Switch is a home console first and foremost and then turning around and pulling the plug on anyone who doesn't have their app would be such a Nintendo thing to do. Of course, it's all hypothetical until we get confirmation on whether you actually do need the app or not. It's starting to look like you do, but who knows.
