What if the Switch allows you to join any random online battle/game or see which friends are online to challenge them, but the app allows you to set up lobbies customizing the criteria and a specific start time that your friends (or randomers) can join. In that sense you could be out at work and decide you fancy playing a little bit of MK later. You open up the app, create a lobby, setting specific requirements (e.g. certain items only, certain tracks etc.), a start time and then you can send it out to friends or request anyone to join. You get home, make dinner, turn on the Switch at the right time and hey presto- you're all set to go with your evening.
If the app aims to make that achievable, but for most consumer needs they can just circumvent the app by joining any available room or scrolling through available friends online then I think that would be rather cool.
Buy zelda on your wii u and be done with it seems like a good option to me. U wont miss much for a long time imo. Who knows the switch will fail and u may have invested in another failed product.
Do not underestimate the spread of negative messaging in this social media era. No matter how much good momentum there is.
If reggie mispoke and this has consequences against all the potential of the switch, reggie will simply have to go. You simply just cant do this after the Wii U failing especially in the social media era. Id be friggin upset if I was a colleague
If he made a mistake it wasn't saying the wrong thing. It was not understanding that some people on the internet are hanging off every word relating to the Switch right now. Well maybe not that. He understands. The issue is that some people are blowing this out of proportion. And it's not his problem or Nintendo's. It's a byproduct of their genius hype machine generator.
Anyways, I don't think there's much evidence for the conclusions people are jumping to. But again, cancel your pre-order by all means. Someone else will take your spot in the queue. And there are some people who missed out on a pre-order that I really hope don't get bitten by scalpers. You on the other hand are on this forum talking so I think we all know you'll come crawling back eventually.

Writes negative comments and then complains about negative messaging.... You do realize you are part of the problem?

Yes I am one of the negstive message spreaders. Good to know that you understood my point.

I think someone who is hired for such a high position with such a big risponsibility should know how to speak when so much is at stake. I wouldnt be surprised if he gets payed big for it either.

Nobody outside of this echo chamber is paying attention to this extent. And nothing was actually said that was negative. In the absence of details some people have taken it upon themselves to fill in the gaps. And they've collectively filled those gaps with the worst possible scenario. Because that's the sort of theory that spreads.
As soon as all the details are out? Nobody will care about these theories anymore. In the same way that all the NX rumour mills did nothing to damage the Switch reveal.
I'm convinced reggie mispoke. On one side i feel relieved because i really want to see the switch succeed, but on the other side im really upset with reggie and how he fills his position as a PR person. This is not the first time he has had nonsense with negative effects coming out of his mouth.
Lets just hope the switch will have online functionality and a friendlist at launch. Also hopefully a solid effort for an app. I get that nintendo never puts voice chat in their games so this doesnt seem like a bad solution for themselves, but I hope third parties can do wh@t they want like on the wii u with black ops 2
I have a feeling the switch is gonna sell gangbusters with the mainstream but I think someone who has expected standards its better to go with a wait n see approach imo
@rallydefault
Reggie did an interview and talked about the phone app for online features. People read into the fact he didn't talk about how the same features would work on the Switch. They then assumed all those features would be exclusive to the phone. When it was pointed out that he could just be highlighting the phone people said it was "poor communication" and have called for him to be sacked.
So, you know, a typical day on the internet.
Some playlists: Top All Time Songs, Top Last Year
An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
@skywake Don't agree with that last part, but I still think it's poor communication. He could've said that you don't need the app for all those features if that's really the case.
The problem with reggie is that he doesnt know specifics because he himself (im assuming) isnt a technical person. What he says are alwaYs general messages he probably got from the people who run the projects, and just goes from there. This is awful and the main reason why he sounds like a robot.
I vastly prefer sony's people like shuhei yoshida because they always know the specifics because they're actually interested to find out.
I really dislike reggie deeply especially with the dumb smug face in which he conveys the message. I think reggie should be of the past. I believe even bill trinen would know better(since he speaks japanese for one). Bill trinen at least seems passionate on being deeply invested with the products. Reggie is a friggin dinasaur literally it is time for him to go.
Negative confusion is awful especially with nintendo's track record. We fans deserve clarity after the collosul failure of wii u.
RIP iwata you were a kind man and i appreciated that. But now that kimishima has taken place i hope he fires reggie. Gtfo with him
Reggie comes off to me as a guy who isnt really right for the job but keeps managing himself on the thin ice to keep his great salary. I guess he is good at acting and people say that acting can bring you a long way. The man is a fool imho. He pisses me off
Think about it guys. When did we ever get clarity from reggie? It has ways been confusion, always
I beg you pardon, but is cartridge more expensive than a DVD? Because if it is, then those prices make sense.
prices are always expensive at launch because publishers know theyre games are gonna be picked up. Its strange that people keep forgetting this because it was also the case with ps4.
Im also assuming that they are predicting the switch to be a big succes so that could play a factor as well
re: online app. Can't recall where I saw/read this but I think the "Parental Control" App settings can also be set up on the Switch. So, hopefully, that means you can do your online stuff from the Switch as well. Would be crazy not to be able to do that. I'm wondering if keeping it on a smartphone app is Nintendo's way of "protecting kids" since they may be less likely to have a smartphone?
I think it would be good for those who are anxious to take a step back and take a breath (of the wild) and wait for the full picture to come into view. It is fair to question and raise concerns but for ones own well being - try to keep some perspective. It has only been a week since the main reveal occurred. Let Nintendo get that core message out. I think they are being cautious about messaging since the main launch complaint of the Wii U was the muddled messaging. Details will be filled in and in short order - we are only 1.5 months away from launch. I don't think we have announcements from all of the devs on the graphic, "A Sampling of Nintendo Switch Partners." Lots to look forward to!
I get what u mean and yes i am a bit anxious because obviously being on a nintendofan forum gives away that I care. If reggie would just shut his mouth for once then there would be no reason for concern. It annoys the [removed] out of me how every single time he opens his mouth it results only in confusion unless its about finances. I get anxious from his stupidity and him not shutting up about things he knows nothing about.
Reggie has brought us memes and some lulz but he needs to go. Puttimg everything in perspective it has always been confusion and skeptecism he brings whenever he speaks. This is not good at all. Not for us and especially not for the company. Nintendo deserves a lot better
