I just realised that I'm almost obsessively hunting down footage of the Switch in action. Like footage of people playing it on the screen, using the controllers and so on. Something I haven't done since the Wii after E3 2006. I'm not sure why I'm doing that. I guess with every other console launch since the Wii it has been pretty clear what we're getting. With the Switch? It's all incredibly new.
So basically I think I might just ignore some of the negativity on forums and such. Because regardless of what people think of Zelda being the only big game on Day 1? This is all still pretty exciting when you think about it. And I think ultimately that's what shone through in the months after the Wii's launch. Not what the internet thought.

I just watched all the Switch trailers again there on the Eshop,they look so much better than on Youtube.Zelda looks absolutely incredible,so sharp and smooth.The rock textures are a huge improvement from what we've seen of the Wii U version.No flicker or pop in either that I can notice.
This is very likely be one of the finest games ever made,if I was playing the Wii U version and noticing framedrops,dodgy textures and pop in,I'd keep saying to myself "I wish I was playing this on Switch",putting a little damper on my enjoyment of it.Aye I'd be playing it on the system it was originally intended for but with the 2nd screen not even being used,it's clearly going to be an inferior version.The Switch version will no doubt have HD rumble and you'll have the various options of how to play.Like laying down relaxed with a Joy-con in each hand using pointer controls for aiming arrows just like on Wii or with the Pro-controller using gyro to aim.
Only 7 more weeks,hyped beyond belief.Arms,Splatoon 2,Mario Odyssey,Xenoblade 2,SF 2,Bomberman,Puyo Puyo Tetris,SNES online.I want them all.
As for motion controls being dead,I don't believe that.There is definitely a place for them and they can add greatly to the enjoyment if done right.The stigma around them is solely down to the Wii and it's wagglefest shovelware but they've made a comeback with VR and are being used every day by tens of millions in mobile games.The Switch wont force motion controls on us like the Wii but it gives us an extra option for those of us that do want them,like with Arms for example, Once Metroid hits with motion and pointer controls,nobody will be complaining they're there.If it's a success it might even convince EA to bring Rory Mcilroy Golf and make a new Grandslam Tennis.A normal controller can't compete with motion in those kind of games.
Food for thought, this is what this year could look like
March: Zelda, 1-2 Switch
April: Mario Kart
May: Arms
June: Splatoon 2
July: ???
August: ???
September: Skyrim
October: Steep
November: Mario Odyssey
December: Xenoblade 2
Remember that November and December are the months when the library needs to be there. This half of the year is just for the people on forums like this. So the way I see it this isn't too bad if E3 has some decent surprises. Just two big Nintendo releases in addition to Mario and they're good.
@skywake I could see a Smash port happening in the summer, especially if Pokemon Stars is a real game. July/August with E3 showing off new fighters/stages if there are any. Maybe sandwich the presentation with Smash reveals like in 2014 (e.g. Inklings at the start and an unexpected character at the end).
@Grumblevolcano
I think a Smash port seems very likely, not long after E3 would make sense. I think it would also make sense for there to be a new Animal Crossing. And then something like Pokemon obviously. If then there are a few more third parties jumping on the bandwagon? It's not a bad first year.
Obviously that line up wouldn't get many people here excited. For the core audience to be excited there'd need to be at least one other thing. But if that's what we got? It'd still be pretty great for the platform. I don't think any of that would be at all surprising..... so I'm getting ready to be proven wrong I guess

@BLP_Software
Is it the same size as the gamepad screen? I heard each Joycon is roughly the size of one side of a 3DS's controls - is that roughly accurate?
@TomJ
I used to be right there with you on the motion control stuff, dude, but I've mellowed out over the past few years. You don't have to play the games that have motion control if you don't want to. So, right now, that's looking like only "1, 2, Switch." ARMS you can play without the motion stuff, Splatoon you can still play without the motion, etc.
It never really affected me on the Wii U EXCEPT for freakin' Star Fox. I'll be the first one to join the complaints about motion control in that case only because they didn't allow the pro controller to be used instead. But when you have an option, there's really no point in complaining. It's like being mad that your favorite restaurant decided to start selling burgers when you only enjoy hot dogs, even though they're still going to sell the hot dogs.
@Therad Yea, I've heard that from a lot of people, and I totally respect that. Just goes to show how much I really am not a motion control gamer, I guess. But also reinforces my point that even a person like me can see that it's kinda silly to still be complaining about Nintendo and motion when 99% of the offerings don't make it mandatory.
@rallydefault its gamepad size but doesnt look it. Joy cons look okay to fit in your hand though. Whole package dock and all is rather understated too.
Its a lot smaller than people think. But thats down to the console alone being...well all acreen really

I had assumed it'd be an eShop game given that it wasn't available to pre-order at my local retailer. It also looks like a pretty small game anyways so, it makes sense. I guess the bigger thing is that this is official confirmation that they're still calling it the eShop. At least that should mean that your wallet carries over and credit is still valid. I think we all assumed that but it's nice to have confirmation of some sort.

Allow me to list things that I agree and don't agree with some people here on the Switch and its accessories:
Agree:
1. Nintendo Switch price is not bad.
2. 1, 2, Switch should be bundled with the console.
3. Accessories are a bit pricier than they should be.
4. Launch games are few.
Don't Agree:
1. Nintendo Switch is "doomed". It's pretty too early to say that because it was just revealed, and there are some questions that are need to be answered, like online services such as eShop, Online Networking, Subscription Plan, etc.
2. Nintendo is "forcing" us to use Motion Controls. Nintendo is simply providing more gameplay options. The only game that makes you use the motion controls is 1, 2, Switch. The rest can be played with traditional controls.
3. Joy-Con is the same as Wii Remote Plus. The tech difference between Joy-Con and the Wii Remote Plus is like day and night.
4. The Joy-Con set is expensive. Relate this to no. 3 above. Two separate Wii Remote Pluses cost as much as the Joy-Con. Check gaming store website like Gamestop and compare them.
If there is anything you like to add, please let me know.
