@Octane Okay, thanks. That stinks. I actually thought some of the games on the Treehouse showing looked cool (table tennis, samurai, quick draw), but not $50 worth of cool, especially as I play almost exclusively solo.
But I've been doing more thinking on all of this, and I continue to feel better and better about the Switch. It really is a toy from a toy company, when you get down to it. "1, 2, Switch" looks, after you view some videos, to be hilariously fun (if you have someone to play with), and everything I'm reading about ARMS from people who have played it is super encouraging.
And I feel like we're losing sight of ZELDA. I mean, come on guys - ZELDA is coming out on March 3rd! Why are we just kinda tossing this to the side? We know when it gets here that it is going to be amazing. People bought the N64 to play OoT, arguably the greatest 3-dimensional game made thus far by any company. Why can't Breath of the Wild be that same type of system seller? I think we greatly underestimate the draw it is going to have (assuming it is actually good).
And, being an American, we can't underestimate the "silent majority" (political joke - my apologies lol). But seriously, this thing has a definite Wii vibe to it with a couple of the games - who's to say it doesn't catch on with the "main stream" just like the Wii did all those years ago? The people who don't visit forums like these and whom we'll never hear from, but they'll certainly vote with their wallets and buy the systems.
Thinking about what they've shown so far, there's still a lot that hasn't been said. We didn't get much of an idea of the UI at all. There was a bit that said Streetpass (not surprising) and MiiVerse (more surprising) are gone. But nothing about what software is on the system itself. Youtube? Netflix? Something like AR Games on the 3DS? Pictochat? Nothing said.
We also haven't got anything about the eShop itself. Nothing on whether or not purchases carry over in any sense. Nothing about the Virtual Console other than the bit in the paid online service description. There was also a bit reported in Famitsu that Neo Geo will be on there so that's at least one system that wasn't on the Wii U. But nothing from Nintendo directly.
Lastly we didn't hear anything about older accessories. I think some people are just assuming that the Wii GC adaptor will work but nothing about that. I don't see any technical reason why WiiMotes and Wii U Pro Controllers won't work. But nothing on that either. I get that they want to sell the new accessories but still. Nothing said either way about any of that.

I haven't watched any more from 1-2 Switch but what I saw of Arms definitely changed my mind a bit. In the first trailer I thought it looked fun but in a kind of "Wii Boxing" sort of way. But then I watched a bit of actual gameplay and it looks pretty nice. It's far more of an technical fighting game than it is a party game like I originally thought. And you can apparently play with the Pro Controller if you want.
The only worry I have is the size of the character roster they've shown so far. Hopefully more characters and Arms unlock as you play. But other than that it looks pretty great. Definitely a game that's worth the full retail price. I'd sit this alongside something like Pokken Tournament or Tekken now.
Nintendo’s online service for Switch will charge a monthly fee and one of the incentives is one free classic game “per month.” Does that mean you lose access to that game after a month?
Reggie: Correct. It means that essentially you’ve got access to that game for a period of time, and then after the month there’s a new selection. You’ll have the opportunity to buy it, but [after] that month we’ve moved on to another game.
I hear from a lot of people like me who’ve spent a thousand dollars on classic games on Wii and Wii U. It is a lot of money! Is there going to be a discount for us if we buy the games again on Switch?
Reggie: What I would say first is, we recognize that some of our most passionate fans have spent quite a bit, whether it’s with Virtual Console on Wii or Wii U, and we recognize that consumers are rightly concerned about moving to Nintendo Switch without backward compatibility. My comment is: Stay tuned, we understand the concern, more information to come.
What do you foresee in terms of the number of Nintendo Switch consoles that you’ll be able to release in 2017?
Reggie: What we’ve said publicly is that there will be 2 million units that will be shipped worldwide for the launch, essentially through month one.
I know, because I read the boards and I read the comments, that there is concern about supply. From what I’ve read, the concern seems to stem from the lack of ability to buy NES Classic. So what I would say is this: Two million for essentially the first month is a huge number, especially when you look and see that this is not peak seasonality. This is essentially the first three weeks of March. Our focus is making sure that the consumer who wants to buy a Nintendo Switch can buy a Nintendo Switch. That’s how we build our supply chain, that’s how we think through the amount of product that’s available.

Why are they keeping all these secrets? I wish they would just tell us what we're actually getting. I thought speculation would end for the most part after January 12th, but I guess not.
The stock issues are already apparent. On the one hand I don't blame them after the Wii U. On the other hand, they probably know exactly what would happen considering their amiibo and NES classic and various special editions over the past year or so.
One thing I think is cool about the Switch is the local multiplayer. Could be a beyond excellent local multiplayer console thanks to having the two Joy-Cons out of the box.
So far there's a lot of local multiplayer games in the lineup with Super Bomberman R, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Ultra Street Fighter II, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe among others.

Nintendo's refusal to give up on local multiplayer is one of the reasons I still put them above the competition, even with their questionable past year and a half or so.
Guys, you can't play Halo with local multiplayer anymore. Halo. HALO! Seriously. That's how bad it's gotten.
Ok, I've gotta vent somewhere and this seems like the place.
I am in love, head over heels in love, with this console. I just can't contain my excitement it looks so incredible! Even paid online and accessories all being $10 higher than they should be isn't enough to even remotely put a dent in this hype train. They absolutely nailed the controllers and I am utterly impressed with the technology inside the Joycons. They're at the pinnacle of the evolution of controllers. And the games... The last time I felt this excited about a lineup of Nintendo games was in 2013 when they showed DKC, Mario Kart, Mario, Splatoon, Smash and MegaMan, and I just can't even sleep I'm so excited lol.
Seriously, I have to work in the morning and I just can't sleep

Thinking about the NES/SNES games we'll get to pick from each month. If they're adding online modes to them,or at least with SNES they are, maybe even remastering them with widescreen ala Mario Maker, that will obviously take time and money.By limiting the selection to 2 games each month, every subscriber will own either of those games for the month,so there will be a huge number of players online. They can run competitions and mini tournaments for them throughout the month. That would be pretty exciting. One month,Super Mario Kart, next month NBA Jam,NHL 94,Micro Machines,Mortal Kombat,Speedball 2 and so on.Then at the end of the month, the game is moved to the Eshop for purchase with online modes intact but sold for 2 or 3 pound more than they normally sell VC for. It's a good way of refreshing VC and introducing old games to new audiences.Maybbe once they've played it for a month online they might be convinced to purchase it at the end of the month.
If they're going to improve their VC and not just dump the old ROM's on there,I will happily re--buy many old titles.I'd love to play through SMB 3 again with Mario Makers graphics.

I don't know how much I'd play a lot of the old games, because they're...old. A ton of them are great, but there's no getting around the fact that many of them are really outdated and kinda lame compared to what we have now, at least in my opinion.
@KirbyTheVampire I still go back to a lot of old games and find gameplay wise, many still hold very up very well to this day.More so from 16 bit era than the 8bit but I often think how great they'd be with HD,widesreen and online modes.Every second indie game is a retro or 2D sidescroller,or so it seems, very few are ever as good as the games they're taking inspiration from though. The 16 bit era perfected 2D gameplay so with some extras added to them to bring them into the modern age,I think it could really take off.It might also tempt some who have moved onto other consoles but loved those games back int the day,Super Mario Kart online would be a huge draw I think.
Had a chance to read a bit more about it... Was hoping this would be closer to the £200 mark. I think I'll get Breath of the Wild on wii u and see how the switch gets on before buying it. Will probably get it once mario odyssey comes out.
The fact FIFA 17 is coming out on it is promising in terms of 3rd party support, although I don't know if it will be a poor port or the same as what's on the PlayStation and Xbox yet.
The games that interest me and would tempt me to buy at the moment are:
Super mario odyssey
Zelda (although I'll probably get it on the wii u)
Skyrim (never played it)
Mario kart 8 (just a port from the wii u but I never got it on that and being able to play it on the go would be a big factor)
