This sounds like this is one to sleep over for me as the event and the way Nintendo is posting info is a tad scattered.

Was Mariobro4. No, I'm not taking off my backpack...it's important.

I do. So do the millions of multiplayer casual Nintendo gamers who had nowhere to go to when Nintendo failed to follow the Wii with something they wanted (phones don't do local multiplayer and Just Dance still releases on Wii). So do kids. So do all the gamers who are open to trying new things when they are done well.

Arms clearly has a decent amount of depth to it.

Millions?

Maybe your experience is different from mine, but I had a lot of friends buy the Wii because at the time it was such a new thing. Whilst we had fun with Wii sports, we all quickly decided it was a pretty rubbish console and don't want to waggle controllers.

People have moved on- they don't want a Wii 2.0. I just can't see that aspect of the console having the success Nintendo expects it to. This is like the second screen all over again. We'll be talking again in fall 2018 going: "remember when Nintendo expected this thing to be a party system? like a Wii on the go? And they released 1-2 Switch and Arms at full price which wasn't so successful and have done nothing else with those gimmicks since?".

I don't know if this has been posted somewhere yet, but (at least in Japan) there will be an app that lets you use all kinds of parental controls for the Switch. I think the idea is to be able to control and monitor the Switch usage from your phone as you're away or at work. Looks like you can set timers for how long your children can play, and also see what kind of games they're playing. It's definitely an interesting approach, and has me wondering what other kinds of apps Nintendo can develop to coincide with Switch.

There's also a pretty cute video to go along with it:

I don't know, I think Arms could do well. It seems like the sort of game that will grab a bit of an audience. Not my sort of thing I don't think but it definitely has the potential to be popular with kids. I do remember how much people got into Wii Boxing and Wii Sports Resort's Fencing. 1-2 Switch on the other hand I think I'll have to see more of before I judge it. I'm not sure.

Anyways, between Zelda and Mario? The system has enough there for me to be interested. Not sure whether or not I'll get it at launch given the wait for Mario. Still, overall it's not too bad.

@FriedSquid
The fact that that sort of parental control stuff is possible tells us a lot. If they have that as an option? Then the online services might have more than we're assuming. Still not sold on the idea of a subscription but still. Hopefully this is a sign of better online infrastructure overall. And by that I mean cross-buy.

If the Switch was a regular home console, 32GB would be concerning. But in the current form factor, 32 GB is the best they can probably do without getting pricey or making it physically bigger.

Currently Playing: Steamworld Heist, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Tales of Graces F

DefHalan

@Ryu_Niiyama No Tales of game has been announced for the Switch yet, they just have plans to bring a Tales of game to the system... plans change and Tales of Link is a thing...

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

So my thoughts throughout the presentation (may not be in order):

  • They seem to really be embracing the "click" for marketing. Me likey
  • I'm fine with the price. $250 or $300 was my expectation. Sucks it couldn't be lower but Kimishima already told (warned?) us it wouldn't sell at a loss
  • 1,2 Switch ultra casual party game reveal first up. Who the hell thought that was a good idea?
  • And they're selling this separately?! It looks like a pack in! But hey, guess I'm not forced to have it
  • What the hell they use to make those joycons, magi--- oooohhhh.
  • The presentation is really top notch here, still feels Nintendo but... more sophiscated?
  • Apparently I'm in the minority but I actually think ARMS looks kind of neat? I love fighting games and I dig the art style. At least a much worthwhile looking use of the joycons than 1,2 Switch
  • We got it right. Splatoon is the sequel. Expect Japan to lost their ink this summer
  • Paid online. Ouch.
  • Mario Odyssey--- TAKE MY MONEY ALL OF IT.... on Holiday 2017 ... TT
  • So I herd u liek Dragon Quest
  • New Squeenix IP? HYPE. Was hoping for Bravely but as long as it's exclusive I'm not complaining
  • Xenoblade's a sequel too?! Yeah, definitely take this over a port
  • Fire Emblem Warriors. Wasn't into Hyrule Warriors but this I'd probably pick up
  • ATLUS. SMT5. I CAN'T BREATHE
  • You had ONE job SEGA, just announce Mania! Instead, we got this incredibly vague new something something and I had to find out the real into from the website. -_-
  • NMH3!!11! YEAAAA BABY
  • EA bleeggghhhh just announce FIFA and get off the stage
  • Yeah Bethesda, it's been beyond obvious to everyone and their grandmothers that Skyrim was coming
  • So I guess this wasn't the January event Harada was speaking of.
  • BYE REGION LOCK NO ONE MISSES YOU
  • Sizzle reel: Minecraft because why not. Wait, is that Xenoverse? Hold on, a new FAST Racing Neo?! Street Fighter, MK8 deluxe... why the hell weren't THESE in the presentation?
  • That seals it, no Senran Kagura TT

Overall a good showing imo. Honestly with Splatoon being a proper sequel and SMO looking like THAT, it definitely makes sense to space these titles out instead of giving that mindblowing lineup the rumor mill was kind of building in a people (including myself)'s heads.

With the NDA being lifted, I expect to see more of the 3rd party developers working on those 80+ titles to make themselves known. So I'm not ready to crucify the forecast just yet... they have to save some stuff for E3 after all. And honestly, I got quite a few things I wanted just not in the way I expected them to.

@Ryu_Niiyama: Taiko no Tatsujin... and no region lock to get in the way?! And how did I miss Blazblue?! Yep, I'm satisfied. Still Day 1.

I went in very optimistic and wow did my disappointment grow so quickly. I know, not surprising from me. But wow. Paid online? I really don't see how they think they have nearly enough games to justify someone paying for that. The stuff like friend inviting and chatting should -not- be behind a paywall. I'm extremely disappointed in them.

Bright side, Zelda at launch. Mario looks great. Xenoblade got me hyped beyond measure, but we probably won't be seeing it until 2019

It seems switch will be RPG heavy, which is a good thing.

I wonder how much the subscription for online will hurt sales for their multiplayer heavy releases. Smash Bros, Splatoon, Mario Kart, Mario Maker. Surely it'll have some impact. On the same note I've seen bits and pieces from a couple of places what the subscription will give you in addition to online. I saw one bit saying that it'll be $8/mo and another one saying it'll give you an NES/SNES game each month and discounts. If those games stay if you cancel your subscription? That could be ok. If not.....

Splatoon will probably take the greatest hi, the others doesn't need online nearly as much.

@DefHalan There was decent support for Tales on the wii, ds and 3ds. I'm not worried. More excited about Taiko anyway. ...although I am still working on the new wiiu and 3ds versions. Ugh, this makes my backlog more daunting.

@WinterSugoi... Did you change your username? Sorry, distracted. Anyway. The no region locking was such a win for me. No more having two boxes hooked up or toting two systems. With some form of Blazeblu and Street Fighter on switch I am a happy camper. Besides I played SFIIHD to DEATH so having it in portable form is a plus. Now if only I could get 3rd strike. And MvC....oh I should not be this excited for a system I already knew I was going to buy. Nintendo everything is updating like crazy and every new tidbit is increasing my purchase budget.

@skywake I think the subscription allows you to download 1 game every month; however, they also expire after a month. At least, from what I understood of it. So, wanna play SMB3 again? You gotta pick that game as your free game for the month, or just buy it.

I want to know more about the online stuff they were talking about (that smart device thing). And obviously a lot more about what games they plan on releasing at launch. I'm getting BOTW, but something else that's not a remake/reboot/whatever or that stupid looking 1,2 Switch would be nice.

Edit: Are we supposed to pay Nintendo to be able to use our phones to voice chat? And "rent" an old NES/SNES game for a month? Is that their online service?

People are still buying second-hand Nintendo Wiis and playing video games like Just Dance 2017 on them. With all due respect, you don't know what you're talking about.

Yeah but that's because it costs what? Less than $50 bucks.

I'm sure if it was $300 then perhaps it'd be a different story.
