Just chill, man. Maybe take a couple days away from the boards. You're obviously starting to take things a bit too personally. If certain people's comments tend to tick you off, leave them alone or don't even read them (that's what I do - I just scroll right on by to the next comment).

Anyway, what I think will be interesting about the Switch launch and supply questions is that the system is coming out in March, not the Holiday season that we are all used to when shopping malls and online are flooded more than usual. Because of this, I think Nintendo stands a better chance at keeping the thing in stock as long as they've done some insightful research into demand (which they'll have a very good idea of after next week's presentation).

@rallydefault Well I'll appleagise to you to then. I mean, I have absolutely never needed to 'chill' after typing in a few sentences on a videogame forum, let me assure you. It's exasperating and yes annoying at times to see the same things regurgitated by the same people among other issues I've had here but it never leaves me seething nor offended (except for the few times people have made it personal but nah I ain't going down that rabbit hole again) and no I'm not going to do what you say I'm afraid, I'll be here all week and definitely beyond to see the meltdowns, which I can also assure you I won't be a part of.

Also now that I think about it I'm 99.9% sure this is not the first time you've butted in and told me to chill/go away/take advice from you in general like you're my mum or something. Maybe take the hint this time please after I explained myself to you for the 2nd or 3rd time?

Fun times ahead!

That backs up the rumour of BotW being cancelled on Wii U.

Am I missing something? Did we read the same thing? Because I don't see anything in that article aside from a date, price (same as the Wii U) and launch titles. It doesn't say anything about BotW on the Wii U.

@Whitewatermoose The Musou game could be an enhanced port of Hyrule Warriors Legends and have Groose in the reveal trailer as that's the main character everyone has been waiting so long for.

I've been thinking about this idea that some people have that Nintendo releases different Switch SKUs. Specifically a theory that they'll come out with a more powerful home console SKU and a cheaper portable SKU down the line. An idea that I had been fond of before we knew what the Switch was. But now we know what it is? I don't get it.

See here's the thing. I can understand maybe down the line them doing a typical portable revision. For example when the SoC becomes more power efficient maybe they'll be able to make it more pocketable. But I see no logical reason why that device wouldn't still be able to output to the TV. There's nothing particularly fancy about the Switch's ability to put an image on your TV. What's impressive is that it has enough power that a game can look good on a TV.

Then there's the other side of the equation. Sure there is no technical reason why they couldn't make some kind of Switch TV. A micro-console not bound by the thermal and power limitations of a portable device. And as tech improves generally they will probably pass those savings onto the consumer, boost the spec or both. That's inevitable. But a non portable SKU? At that point you're losing one of the major selling points of the Switch. And in any case, couldn't they just have it reduce its clock speed when in portable mode?

Now don't get me wrong, I think revisions on the Switch are inevitable if it does well. I think that this is the new way that the industry is going to work. Sony are doing it, Microsoft are doing it and Nintendo has always done it with their portables. I just don't think we'll ever see a Nintendo Switch that isn't a portable device that slides into a dock that connects to your TV.

As we have said before, a stationary console wouldn't need a screen, dock or battery. Which should shave of fifty bucks or so on the price for those that don't want the portable part. Portability is only a selling point if you want it, otherwise it is an added cost.

I don't think they will do it though. For one thing, the joy-cons would still need to be present.

Even so such a SKU wouldn't be adding anything you couldn't do on the original. It'd seriously limit the potential audience for the device. And I suspect that even consumers who don't care about the portability aspect won't mind having the option. Even if they only even use the feature as a way to easily move the console between screens.

It'd be like trying to sell the PSTV except this time the Vita has HDMI out.....

Yes, adding options limit the potential audience. And war is peace. Not everyone wants to have portability, and it does lower the value of the console for those people. It might not do it for you specifically, but I can assure you many are not interested in portables at all.

FragRed

@Therad If you remove the portability aspect of the console then you might as well sell it under a totally different brand because the name Switch won't have any meaning.

Well look at it this way, I don't personally see myself playing on the TV much at all. The only Wii U games I played on the TV were games that didn't support off-TV. And with the Wii U the off-TV picture was kinda average and you couldn't really leave the room. Even games like Smash Bros and Mario Kart I played more online using the GamePad than I did local-multiplayer on the TV. I've had my Pro Controller connected to my PC exclusively for a long time.

So if there was a Switch SKU that was cheaper and the only downside was that it didn't connect to your TV? It wouldn't bother me. But I know what would happen if they did do that. I could easily see the SKU with both options selling out while the portable only SKU sits on the shelf. Fantastic for people like me who don't care, not so great for people who only wanted a home console. Same deal the other way around. The specialised device would have a much smaller potential audience.

Octane

Hopefully an hour filled with trailers and little talking.

An hour seems short, personally I expected somewhere between and hour and a half and two hours. There's a lot to cover initial games 1st and 3rd party, price, controller options, whether there are multiple SKU's, virtual console and hopefully a new account system.
Now if it's like the PlayStation experience last month, then there will be no complaining.

@Farmboy74 Yeah, PSX was great and that was only an hour long too, so that's plenty of time if you manage it the right way.
