I wouldn't take demand in the UK as proof of anything, we're talking about the same country that had problems with Splatoon's amiibo due to a truck being stolen!

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

Going back to the Laura AMA, one detail that was overlooked is that the Pro Controller will have gyro.

@Luna_110 Good times, good times. Lowlifes who stole the truck and inconvenienced others aside, I managed to get 2 copies of Splatoon, the boy and girl Inklings and those hats they were giving away for £50 at launch. Only cost me around £20 once I sold what I had 2 of so they did me a favour in the end. Game being great was cool too I guess.

But yeah I had a look through other retailers and only GAME (because of course) have raised the price to £50 with Argos having the, for £32 and Amazon £40. Nintendo themselves are selling Moon at least for £40 too so there's nothing to see here really.

Am I the only person who doesn't mind this? Because the thing that has infuriated me has been the fact that this hasn't happened yet. There was the Wii -> Wii U transfer but beyond that your purchases weren't recognised at all. You couldn't have a second 3DS tied to the same account. If you wanted a VC title on the 3DS it ignored entirely every other system you owned that title or might want it.

To be frank. If in the first few months of the Switch VC being up I can add $15AU eShop credit to my account. Then use that credit to "upgrade" Super Mario Kart, Super Mario World, Earthbound, Super Metroid, A Link to the Past and Super Mario 64 rather than just one of them. If I then get gold coins on My Nintendo equivalent to the value I'd get if I had paid full price. Coins which by my calculations I could use to get either a ~$15AU free download or discount. I'm not going to be complaining at all.

@skywake I agree. I'm fine with an upgrade fee, because in a lot of ways, its reimbursing what went into the development of new emulation systems.

Plus, it may for third party games, cover the cost of having those licenses transferred to include Switch re-release. That's a big wall for retro games.

"Multiple different dev kits are in the hands of different developers, with one in October being more powerful than the one in July"

This is great to read.It lends more weight to what the WSJ guy said and that Eurogamer's info is indeed out of date.I wonder if Nintendo have had a change of plan in the last few months or if it was always their intentions to upgrade it later?Eurogamer said at the end of their article that the specs table provided to devs was final so that's likely what gave them the confidence to report on it.I doubt they were making it up or being misled either.

@OorWullie They did also say 3DS used Tegra, but that was only early dev kits. Dev kits often start with specs, either lower or ballpark range to final release. They then produce the chips along with the final retail design, and as that gets closer they can obviously offer more precise dev kits. Also helps to get feedback on each kit as time goes on.

No, just bury all the titles under digital avalanches of VC titles.

There's no winning.

I think they should focus on GameCube and either NES or GB (or maybe even GBA?) at first. Get as many of those out in a reasonable time as possible. Don't spend weeks releasing one bad obscure NES game at a time like they did on Wii U.

Edit: Also, be smart with the timing. If there's a big release week for indie and digital-only games, then that's when you release the obscure garbage games (and multiple at a time), not when there's a barren week.

My main hope for VC this time is we'll see the return of VC Arcade.I was really excited about it when it first came to Wii and thought of the possibilities but it never came to much.I had hoped with Wii U we would see it evolve and bring 90's titles like Daytona,Virtua Cop etc but it wasn't to be.There's an enormous library of arcade classics, most of which the vast majority of us will never have played for any more than a few minutes,if at all.My other hope is for the return of Sega VC and especially the Dreamcast.90's Arcade Classics,Gamecube and Dreamcast VC along with Nintendo's 1st party games and it'll be a dream machine for me.

The VC Arcade coming back would be awesome. Or really just any kind of expansion of the systems available on the VC. The more the better. It should expand to Gamecube. Even better if Sega consoles make a return especially if it also means Dreamcast ect.

I also agree with the people saying that the VC should be better than it was on the Wii U. Especially now that there won't be any compression on the video signal in "portable mode". I love having a small collection of portable NES games on my 3DS. Part of what's great about it is that it has a decent screen and decent controls. So I hope they do a good job of it.

I guess Nintendo doesn't really have a reason to stop Wii U VC until Switch launch then. If they're just doing the upgrade fee approach again they may as well have NA and Europe catch up with each other as well as both getting Smash 64.

If I recall correctly, NA still doesn't have games like Star Fox 64 and Mario Kart 64.

I like the fact that upgrade prices keep popping back up as rumour. I hope to see those in retail and normal eshop games too.

I'm definitely upgrading splatoon if I get the chance to do so. Samey game for a new price? Nah. Same goes for mario kart and smash.

In an ideal world,Nintendo would make a deal with Sega to get M2 to update as many of their finest arcade and console titles as they can.Add HD,online leaderboards and multiplayer and it'll be perfect. Also in this ideal world,we will see a steady stream of 'Dreamcast Classics Online',Soul Calibur,Powerstone 1 & 2,Ready 2 Rumble 1 & 2 with online at home and link up play on the go.

@erv I think the small upgrade fee will only apply to VC and maybe some 1st party Eshop downloads.I'll be surprised if it applies to the Wii U ports/remasters.For Nintendo that's up to 8 million MK8 owners or 5 million Splatoon owners only having to pay a small percentage for the Switch version. There might be a small discount through MyNintendo using points or something if you already own the game on Wii U but it wont be much.Maybe if Wii U VC ever becomes a thing the upgrade fee will apply.

I wonder whether or not Nintendo will recognise the purchase of an NES Classic Mini on the Switch eShop. They did have a My Nintendo card in the box. Not that I really expect them to or care either way. I don't have an NES Mini and I got most of those games via the 3DS Ambassador program anyways. But they could make those NES games available at a discount for people who registered the NES Mini. People did essentially purchase those games digitally just as they did on the Wii, Wii U and 3DS.

@TomJ I think quantity will be limited simply because Nintendo fans in general would rather buy VC games than 3rd party Switch games so by limiting the VC selection maybe it'll allow more purchases of games like Skyrim.

I don't mind the upgrade fee for the VC., no company would let you update from one gen to another for free.
Now, I'll wait to see what the fee is, hopefully is something reasonable.

Id pay a small fee to play my vc games on the go or at home any day of the week.
