Wish I could say I care at this point, but I'm too busy with uni and planning the biggest video series of my life to really sit and tear apart every rumour for what it is now. I'm having to find help for this series, I never do that.

And no one will watch it! I'm so positive!

Anyhow, the fact NintendoLife hasn't reported on Vulkan yet shows that if something is pure positivity it wont get clicks. Either that or they don't care. Gotta remember they are tied to Eurogamer after all.

The developers of Triple A gaming would port stuff to a sweet potato flavored Game and Watch if it sold buckets.

Will the Switch sell?
@erv thinks so. Why?

@BLP_Software They probably don't care because the know other people probably don't care. They wouldn't even know what Vulkan or an API is.

@Octane Yet people report on clock speeds while admitting they don't know, and that there are other factors pertaining to game development on Switch, such as the available APIs, yet don't mention them? Just strikes me as an odd thing.

Then again, the world doesn't exact work in a logical way. All emotion and not a lot of thought it seems, at least when discussing Nintendo. Remember kids, if you want ad revenue, bash Nintendo. Seems to work on YouTube. Also translates as "Talk about popular things".

@Ersatz because nintendo now communicates identity. If they keep that up - and I imagine they will - we're in for a treat.

Supposedly Nintendo searches on Google are up to 3 times that of Playstation. That's pretty impressive, especially considering the recent release of the PS4 Pro. Super Mario Run is likely a big contributor to that, but at the very least, Nintendo seems to be back on people's radar. Let's hope that translates to an impressive Switch launch. http://venturebeat.com/2016/12/21/nes-classic-switch-and-mari...

In the end, a very key thing that plays a significant role in the Switch's success or failure is delivery and content in the January event. Less than a month away!

@KirbyTheVampire Most likely because Nintendo has been available on a variety of different platforms in some shape or form this year, more so than any other year in their entire lifetime.

You had Pokémon Go and Super Mario Run on the iPhone and iPad, new 3DS and 3DS XL, Pokémon Sun and Moon, Splatoon, Super Mario Maker, both the Wii and Wii U along with the upcoming Nintendo Switch.

There were lots of reasons to look them up (compared to PlayStation).

As I've said before, I expect the presentation to be more informative than entertaining. To put it another way, I expect info, I expect announcements, but I do not expect a show.

We've been spoiled by Nintendo Directs the last several years. I think the presentation will be quite dry in comparison.

@IceClimbers To be fair, I take an informative presentation that focuses on the Switch and games over those stupid improvised sketches from Reggie any day!

@IceClimbers It's the event's aim: to give you pretty much major information about the console. The direct days are over.

The way I understand it is that last year the Vulkan API was demo'd compared to current APIs and it was a tremendous leap in performance. So, if the software can improve performance using more efficient hardware, then it is intelligent design from a portable perspective. Sure, it would be nice if they took this design philosophy to it's furthest conclusion i.e using the state of the art chips etc...but my god that would be expensive and just decapitate their market. The power race doesn't interest me, afterall, its as basic as the biggest most expensive box wins. Its sad for the industry if games only appear on these boxes.

@IceClimbers By delivery I was mainly thinking about stuff like easy to understand, clear vision, etc.

The Switch could be a fantastic console with a superb game library but if by the end of the presentation, the general person thinks it's just a Wii U clone (like if Nintendo focused on the Wii U games coming to Switch rather than new games) then it could be in trouble.

What I'm wondering is how they'll approach Breath of the Wild in the presentation. We've already seen so much of it at this point. Maybe just another trailer showing stuff that we already know about?

Also, I'm excited to see more of that Mario game. I wonder how the level design will look compared to 64/Sunshine/Galaxy.

I have faith that Nintendo will get its point across in the January presentation. It seems they learned their lesson with the Wii U, and replaced the entire marketing team because the reveal trailer of the Switch is infinitely better than the Wii U reveal.

I have a chronic lack of time, for everything.

So far, I liked how Nintendo is marketing their products, not mention the way to reveal a console recently. Yeah, I say Nintendo has learned from Wii U's mistakes in marketing. Let's hope that they deliver a great presentation this January, because one month preparation should be enough.

@Grumblevolcano I love the Wii u and have to admit it's toxic for Nintendo. They need to disassociate with it as fast as possible.

In time, more people will play its great games regardless.

@Octane I like those sketches to be honest. Ignoring those though, the Directs were always super slick, snappy and to the point presentations that didn't have to worry about live translations and had little corporate fluff. The content is presented well, making them entertaining.

Live presentations have to deal with live translations, awkward pauses in transitions, and have a lot of corporate fluff. Considering a good portion of the presentation will likely be about hardware and services, then it may end up looking a bit dry.

I'm just hoping the content is presented well is all.

@Azooooz Come on now, Directs aren't dead. We just had one a few months ago. I'd be willing to bet we'll get another one focused on 3DS in February.

If it was me I'd focus on what's different about the Switch version. Specifically the improved performance and the portability aspect. Then all they need to do is show the box-art and give us a date. That'd be more than enough.
