I mean, it looks like it'll be a high-quality product, but whatever that grimdark medieval character action game they're developing is doesn't look like what I'd want from something called "Final Fantasy."
It's a shame, because FFVII Remake showed that you could have a big budget, AAA-style Final Fantasy game with a party system and a tone befitting the property.
@JaxonH IV and VI would be the best candidates for that treatment, IMO.
And don't get me wrong: I'd snap that up in a second. But in terms of just having all of the classic FF games on the platform, I do like this approach.
Thankfully, we know from the Steam/mobile versions that they'll be reasonably priced for what they are.
Although I do hope they do a cartridge compilation as well.
@Kermit1Pineapple Lots of padding. Make sure it's snug enough that you can't hear it rattling around when you shake the box. The more it moves around, the more likely it is to get scuffed up during transit.
@Kermit1Pineapple Might also be worth wrapping the joycons in their own little bubble wrap cocoon.
When I pack boxes for sending, I also use plenty of packing tape to ensure a high-quality seal.
Also, make sure there's layers of packing material on all sizes of the objects. If the box falls in the truck, you don't want the tablet to be what absorbs the force of the impact.
I just realized how absolutely packed next year is going to be for games. Even on the Switch alone we’re getting:
Fire Emblem Engage
TOTK
Pikmin 4
Silksong
MK8D DLC 4-6
Not to mention a bunch of other third-party/ indie stuff. And I’m sure at this point we know nearly nothing about the second half of the year. I am super excited to see what next year brings!

And the year hasn't even started yet. I keep saying it, we're in a golden era of gaming.
@Ralizah
I'm definitely happy the Pixel Remasters are coming, but in truth I often struggle to play older games without any kind of visual face lift or refining of the controls and mechanics to modernize it a bit. Dragon Quest III looks to be my ideal way of enjoying a SNES classic.

@JaxonH Oh my goodness I completely forgot about Kirby and Advance Wars! I agree; this is like the second or third golden age of gaming right now and likely in the couple of years to come. It just feels like so many major things are finally coming to fruition, along with some complete surprises that nobody was really expecting. It’s like everyone is making up for the relative quiet spell we had in 2020 and 2021.
@Kermit1 Very true, likely the most earth-shattering release out of everything next year

@JaxonH They definitely received a visual facelift compared to the original releases. I believe they also have newly added minimaps and save anywhere features. And, of course, completely remastered soundtracks.
Some people take exception the fonts used in these releases, but some people are difficult to please.
@Ralizah
Think they patched the fonts. I remember when it released and there was a mod out to fix them. Then SE released a patch and ppl had to undo the mod, or something.

I guess how good a lineup is depends on your perspective. For me, 2020-2021 were good years in their own right. But 2022 has been the best year in gaming since 2017 Switch.
Triangle Strategy- one of the best srpg's of all time.
AI Somnium Files Nirvana Initiative- a quality sequel to the best VN I've ever played, thanks to the higher budget and full 3D character movement
13 Sentinels- speaking of VNs, this game is kinda VN but also kinda strategy, it's weird, but it's VERY good.
Zombie Army 4- one of the funnest online co-op games I've played since Monster Hunter and Splatoon. Complete with gyro aiming, small file size, fast loading and killer graphics and performance for a hybrid port of a current AAA game, it's not one to be missed
Nintendo Switch Sports- don't care how much ppl hate, this is a classic release. Just having HD Wii Sports bowling and golf on a hybrid handheld device is dream come true for me
Portal 1/2- games I've been waiting for to go handheld since 2012 when I bought a Vita in hopes of playing Portal.
Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak- the best video game of all time. I'm still playing it.
Fire Emblem Warriors Three Hopes- the best musou game ever released.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3- one of the top 5 best jrpgs ever made
Splatoon 3- my favorite competitive shooter ever released
Persona 5 Royal- they said it would never happen, that it was a pipe dream... and yet, in the Year of Our Lord 2022, it happened.
Nier Automata- another "best of the generation" game that was long dreamed for on Switch
Bayonetta 3- best action game ever made, bar none
Mario Rabbids Sparks of Hope- one of the best strategy games of all time. Though different than Triangle Strategy, both are equally deserving as best in genre
Dragon Quest Treasures- first ever HD, open world DQM game
Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core- an amazing remakester that personally, I find more enjoyable than FFVIIR
Pokemon Scarlet/Violet- though it has its issues, I hear good things from those who have actually committed to playing it. Seems there's a lot of fun to be had.
Tactics Ogre Reborn- just to round out the trifecta of strategy games on Switch in 2022, one of the all time classics sees a hybrid release
Trails From Zero- a spectacular release of a classic game that's actually the best version you can play
Rogue Legacy 2- the game that finally got me into the rogue-lite genre, and it's fire
Neon White- one of THE best FPS I've ever played.
Not to mention SIFU, No Man's Sky, Tunic, Olli Olli World, KOTOR 2, etc.
Persona 5, FE Engage, and Crisis Core should carry me all the way up to TotK, so I'll be good for a while. As much as I'd like octopath 2, and Kirby, I just won't have the time.
And TotK should carry me all the way up to the 2023 Sepetember direct lol. My 2023 is pretty much set 🤣
@JaxonH Oh yeah, it has just been hit after hit lately. I think this year and the next are going to reaffirm how essential the Switch is, despite its aging hardware. Sure, the console itself may not impress many people anymore, but the games just speak for themselves. It is truly an amazing time to be a Nintendo fan or just a fan of games in general.

@JaxonH new 2D/3D Mario game
rumored 2D Donkey Kong game by Nintendo EPD 8
Metroid Prime Trilogy remaster or Metroid Prime 4(huge maybe)
Pokémon Scarlet e Violet expansion pass
Good Feel new game
Grezzo new game
Switch Lite OLED or Switch sucessor releasing together with Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom
GB/GBA on Switch Online @Grumblevolcano add Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom to your list of DLC/expansions(is very likely that Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is gonna have a expansion pass just like Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild did, one focused on gameplay and another more story oriented).
